Here are all the band members for you: James Hetfield - singer, rhythm guitarist (primary songwriter, wrote a majority of the riffs, often regarded as the best rhythm guitarist in all of metal and a downpicking god, he did play the first solo on master of puppets though) Kirk Hammett - lead guitarist (focused mostly on the solos, however he has written some really cool riffs) Lars Ulrich- drummer (the other primary songwriter, helps hetfield choose the best riffs and arrange them into songs) Cliff Burton RIP - bassist (brought the concept of harmony into the band and wrote the masterpiece that is orion, sadly this was his last album)

One of the best albums in rock and metal. Every track is quality and there is plenty variety in the songs. Saddest thing is that they lost bassist Cliff Burton in a road accident and I feel if he had lived to make more albums with the band we might have seen them move in some interesting directions. Cliff an absolute amazing bassist. I love the story of him that when Metallica played Toronto he heard that Geddy Lee of Rush was there are he started pacing the dressing room floor going "Gedyy Lee is here? Geddy Lee is here?". He was so excited. What a player what a top bloke. There are still good albums after this but I don't think they ever matched this album. Lovely reaction. Oh in case you read this, can you tell me without looking it up what the Latin motto is on your shirt😁?

Yes! Master Of Puppets is one of the best albums ever made! It might be the best album of the eighties for sure! Orion is my favorite song by metallica ever. Sadly, while touring on this album they lost their bassplayer, Cliff Burton (RIP). He was responsible for the arrangments and composition of their early albums. After this they put out their last album in the same vein as this, And Justice For All... This is centainly worth a listen to, if only for One and the title track. The opener and instrumental are also definitely good. The bass, played by Jason Newsted, is almost indistinguishable in the production of this album. It has been speculated that they made this decision in honour of Cliff. That, by doing so, they did a terrible injustice to Jason is ironic, given the album title. After 35 years they should man up already and do justice to Jason by remastering And Justice For All... After that it's all downhill if you ask me.

Perhaps Metallica's peak. They were still young, still had the vigour, the boundless strength and raw energy of youth when you can stay up all night drinking and f*cking, and play your instruments like a machine all day, possessed by the spirit of metal essential for the driving speed and insanity of thrash. But they had also acquired a profound maturity to their writing, musically and lyrically, able to create deep, dark, beautiful, philosophical music, and it's all in such perfect balance. James's vocal and guitar work is powerful and impeccable, Kirk's solos intricate and heart-pounding, Lars' percussion thunderous and relentless, and of course, Cliff's bass a masterclass that serves as a fitting but tragic swan song. It was 1989 before I heard it, but it seemed to be the perfect soundtrack to my mentality even then. An astonishing 37 years later... lemme check that again... yep, 37 years... it still holds up favourably against anything in their, or anyone else's, catalogue, and a very strong candidate for best metal album of the 1980s.

It is very interesting to hear This Record with my ears 30 years later versus Teenage me who bought it the we came out and was utterly floored with this new flagship in this emerging style of brass metal. I think the band themselves were aware that the opening track was going to sit at the bar for what thrash was supposed to be in 1986, and Metallica made a defining statement with such a refined yet aggressive and at the same time super catchy and stomach tune to open that record. I mean they had done something similar either by pure guessing or blind ignorance or whatever with the two previous albums but you could hear that everything was coalescing and really coming to ahead and if the Metallica machine was not fucking around by this point. They knew they were ahead of the pack, they knew they had inspired other bands already, they knew they still had a lot to prove but they were moving into entirely new realm of popularity and exposure while still being able to do it on their own terms... In short they knew this album was going to be important. Perhaps that is an undercurrent that just wasn't in their mind with the two previous albums and they roast to the challenge in all areas. The production is great, the performances are first-rate, the lyrics are really a high-water mark they would never again try as hard as this and get so much of it right. The album after this was where they started to make music videos and that took them into a whole different level, most of which for me was kind of Paving the path towards the end of the year that I was actually interested in but this, this album, this lineup.. the album was released in a year when each of the big four put out legendary records that were all New Frontiers within the span of a year of each other yet this one, this is the best of the best. From you will always be the greatest Metallica album.

Probably the 1988 album 'And justice for all' by Metallica... worth checking out! 😈 The album was progressively longer, lacked a bass sound, and was brutal - one of their biggest albums of the Metallica catalog. If u react to Metallica's 1996 album 'Load'... u will likely be shocked, cos it sounds nothing like Metallica of 1986 (They cut their hair... the songs on the record are not 'thrash metal'... hell, it's not even a metal record!) The 90's were just a weird time cos 80's bands were trying to fit into the 'grunge' and 'alternative' rock scene that was popular... and Metallica were making million$ at that point and wanted to play something closer to Alice In Chains, Oasis and even Lynyrd Skynyrd...

For me it's Battery, Master of Puppets, and Damage Inc. that makes the album one of my favorites.

"The Thing That Should Not Be" and "Call of Ktulu" from Ride The Lightning cement Metallica as Lovecraft fans! 2 of my favorite songs of theirs and both of them are about Lovecraft's Cthulhu!

When you started listing why you liked Thing That Should Not Be, i knew you were gonna like the next track even more. Thing will always be my favorite song off this album. The world really lost out when Cliff died. 🤘🧙‍♂️🤘 Rich the Ancient Metal Beast

As other have said.. those of us that grew up in the 80s had the best music to choose from. Back then we had cassette tapes in our cars. This tape and the first Guns N Roses tape lived in my beat up high school ride. Oh PS.. Damage, Inc is my all time favorite song of any thing all time ever! lol. But Orion is cool because you can put your own lyrics to it. Just follow Kirks guitar notes. The guitar is the "voice" in this instrumental. "Aren't instruments fun!" - Band Geek, American Pie 2

I have 5 favourite tracks from this album, 2 tracks I kinda and one I’m not particularly bothered by. Not bad for an 8 track album. Makes sense though, it’s been consistently voted the best heavy metal album of all time since it was released. By both Kerrang Magazine and I believe Thrasher did too. It is also the first metal album to have been preserved in the National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress for cultural significance.

23:48 Metallica were on fire in the 80s. Still enjoy their stuff now, but they set the bar incredibly high with their first four albums (and to some extent The Black Album). Sad that this was the last album with Cliff before he passed away later that year.

When I heard this album back in 1986... after listening I just couldn't sleep. Oh really. Then I became metalhed until today. It makes me happy that today's kids are discovering it again.

Hello, I thought I would expand my horizons; I may be imagining this or because I haven't seen some of your latest videos but you are coming over crystal clear om my IPad. Maybe it's your new location and signal. 🤔

A lot of Orion was actually lifted from green manalishi by fleetwood Mac. Early fleetwood Mac with Peter green before they went all soft rock are definitely worth a listen Kira.

Your reactions are so good! Thank you for doing these! When I am watching your videos, I have nostalgia! I had similar reaction. I wish I could have a "First listen" again! Since i wrote my last comment here, I saw Iron Maiden live, and honestly, its was one of the best experiances of my life! If you are interested in a newer kind of powermetal (dont fear, they are not that *hard* to listen to) I can reconmend listening to Sabaton, Powerwolf, and Dynazty! Sabaton is like a cool history teacher band, with real simple lyrics, and easy to learn rythm. Powerwolf have some real unique sound, and very interesting lyrics. Dynazty is just so damn good, the lead singers voice is amazing! I heard Dynazty before they played Sabaton, than I heard them perform before Powerwolf and they stole the show for me! :D

Yu really really should do And Justice For All as well in this run. The first four Metallica albums are a set that represent not only Metallica’s development from start to peak but that of Thrash itself. After And Justice they felt they had taken that style as far as they could and went not only in completely new directions but jump to completely different starting points with pretty much every album.
