People are taking this way too seriously. Metallica themselves have admitted they had huge respect for bands like Priest, Sabbath, Maiden etc and were basically inspired by them. This is just friendly banter, and it actually was pretty funny lol
yeh cuz thats what they taped and decided to put on the net. respect?( i also see they have mocked GNR, which is too easy, but he only goes after voices he can never attain, insecure much?) ive seen there ases when they were opening for ozzy twice and the first time they sucked balls, i've seen priest not form the beginning because well they're older than metallica , who i did like until this.. and priest has never been anything but my favorite band to see live..never paid to see metallic headlining saw them 3 times 2 w/ozzy once in 87 with monsters of Rock(they weren't the headliners btw van hagar was, and their guitarist spit on us very classy!).. never saw priest open for anyone and paid to see them every time!!
dawn fillinger James knows that he can't do the high notes, so he tried them with helium. For fun, get it? There are singers with different voice registers in metal, as well as in opera. A bass singer might not be able to sing like a tenor.
I can't believe the amount of idiots in this comment section. It's clear they're just joking. It's never meant to be an insult, James just shows that he would need helium to sing those high notes at the end of Green Manalishi, and not even then can he hit the right ones. It's all fun and games, guys.
@@dorishall225 It was a joke. Metallica and Halford have shared the same stage dozens of times. Go do some digging, and watch some great collaborations!
@@dorishall225 Judas priest is ok but Metallica is god of metal and down picking therefore I'm against you and your messed up opinion. Your just a poser that's what you get for saying Metallica is a poser. I bet you didn't even give Metallica a chance.
Thank you Blaine! I'm so glad someone got James' sense of humor. Any Metallica fan knows they love JP and this was all in good fun. This video is priceless and I'm sure Rob would enjoy it, too.
It was clearly a joke, Hetfield, as amazing as he is, knows he cant hit those same notes. I am surprised at the amount of folks that haven't seen how many times Rob has performed with Metallica. Metalica must really hate priest if they are always playing songs with Halford.
yep thats funny alright. But the reality is that there are thousands of guys and some girl singers that sing and sound like james hetfield. But Theres only ever been one Rob Halford!
James would be among the first to admit that..he never saw himself as a singer but as guitarist who happened to be the frontman because there was no other..anyway it's it's all lighthearted stuff in this video..some metal fans need to grow a thicker skin..with that being said, black sabbath and subsequently priest were the forefathers of metal..pointless to compare with bands like Metallica who took metal further in the 80s..it's like saying Jimmy Page is a better guitarist than Chuck berry and vice versa..you could compare Metallica with Megadeth or even Iron maiden with Judas Priest
Michael Colby True..But one can argue that best 4 albums of Metallica were better than the best 4 albums of Judas Priest or pretty much any other metal band with a better overall discography..The peaks that metallica hit were really high diminshed by what they did in the 90s and 2000s.Depends also on what type of metal you are looking for
klsau priest was huge in the 80's if it wasnt for them and ozzy id never even had heard of metallica.. i remember the MTV veej saying here is metal licka.. yep she never pronounced Priests name wrong!! hmm
I love this video. And for those of you who don't know (obviously there are several), Metallica members are huge fans of Judas Priest. They even performed with Rob Halford recently!
its amazing that you think its okay even though metallica is nothing but a cover band anymore i know i wouldn't be proud of getting a grammy for thin Lizzy's work and do not say well it was an old folk song because yeah I haven't seen Metallica take any other folksongs (that another band didn't make famous first) and say hey i tihnk this will make a killer rock tune!! fucking posers now!! Priest never had to go into rehab either, that i heard of like fucking hatfield.. AND I bet you wouldnt be so happy if it was the the way around!!
Arundhati Bakshi see the thing is I didn't think they sucked until I saw this video, which btw I didn't search out, it came up on the right hand side while i was listening to a Metallica song.. so maybe we don't need to get a life, maybe others who have gotten to where they are off the backs of others need to be happy for the life they have and be respectful, i do not see how this was a joke, it wasn't titled as one it wasnt meant as one! I can be upset with a band that for my teen years I listened too soo much only to find out they're really giant douche bags! Maybe you and all of the rest of us have a very different idea of humor, well you , and metallica of course..
First of all ... It's a joke guys !!! Hetfield is a great fan of Rob, They cover Rapidfire regularly & at least they made all JP fans get together now ! I thought I was the only one who worships Priest !!! Love from Iran
Judas Priest wipes the floor with Metallica. Every Priest album is fucking metal gold. ALL the Metallica fans I know and have met have all said "I liked them better in the 80's. They're not so good now". Wherea's all the Priest fans go "Judas Priest are better than ever". So Metallica, STFU
Rob halford is the god of metal, while james is more like a knight. He should he kissing Halfords ass for creating a genre such as metal. They gonna mock every band thats better than them?
+y0sh1100 >Priest >literally everything from Sad Wings of Destiny to Painkiller minus Turbo Lover >still release passable albums to this day >Metallica >3 classics, 1 good album >released a mediocre album last after years of garbage This is clearly just a bit of banter, but Judas Priest is so far ahead of Metallica. Might as well compare Megadeth to Motorhead.
80s Metallica was great when they were thrash...I wouldn't buy an album from them now, not heavy enough to headbang to. but im sure that a lot of people who are NOT into Metal LOVES Metallica now......................
It all depends on perspective. I'm with you on the fact that their new stuff isn't that good, but there are a few things from Fuel/Refuel/Death Magnetic that are ok. that's probably as far as I go with it.
that awkward moment when you mock the very people you owe your entire success to... fuck man, they even directly ripped off some priest guitars in their music.
+Eric Merrill They could do it in their sleep but they don't want to since the song sucks and Judas Priest suck, and that's why Metallica are making fun of them.
+Eric Merrill Right, you made it apparent you lack the tiniest shred of musicality by saying Judas Priest has more variation to their music than Metallica. Pretty much every Judas Priest song sounds the same, shitty kindergarten level riffs, same boring rhythm and annoying shrieking vocals, while Metallica have countless songs that are considered anthems and classic cult songs. Judas Priest fans are probably the stupidest people of this planet and are failures at life.
Wow where did people's ability to take a joke suddenly disappear to? I mean literally in the recommended videos bar on the side you can see "Metallica w/ Rob Halford - Rapid Fire Live " where they clearly respect Judas Priest and so many people are shitting on Metallica for no reason, a band that has the utmost respect for Priest.
guys don't you realize they were just fooling around? James said Judas Priest but he could've said any other band really... he was just joking gee don't take it so seriously.
The fact that Kirk was playing Green Manalishi as some sort of warm-up it seems kind of indicates that he most of all respects the Priest. I don't think James on helium imitating Rob is meant as an insult or anything. By the way, I am a fan of both bands.
If you're 30, you're still NOT old enough to know what Metallica was like back in the day. Maybe if they'd concentrate on their music, and not making themselves more money, no one would give a fuck who they made fun of.
Metal head to the end , Priest is still kicking Ass ! , But somehow along the way i out grew what once was one of my favorite bands Metallica ! Actually i don't like anyone in Metallica anymore- "SAD BUT TRUE" ! LOL
That's the weird denial syndrome I run across in people who stay dedicated to Metallica and refuse to listen to any other bands even while acknowledging Metallica haven't made a good album in over 20 years. The underground/underrated comment doesn't make any sense as you're pretty much just saying only Metallica is worth listening to. Whatever floats your boat, you want to listen to music you know sucks and ignore the bigger world out there go ahead.
judas priest is one of metallicas great influences.. and i know for fact they would mock them but jokingly imitating.. that would be appropriate for this video. halfords vocals range is so limitless it seems.. it amazing how he could do what he does.. \m/ horns up to priest and to metallica \m/
Guys, Judas Priest is my favorite metal band and Rob Halford is for me, the best metal singer. Of course James Hetfield can't sing like Rob. And yes he's mocking Judas Priest, but calm down for god's sake ! Without Priest James and Metallica would never have existed and James will never tell you the opposite. He's merely kidding come on brothers worshipers of Priest, laugh to this video and do not get angry, please :)
Halford's range honestly isn't all that hard to reach for someone who has actually had vocal lessons. I'm in no position to judge either Halford or James, but I have no issue doing a vintage priest song and hitting the notes. I don't sound 1/100th as good as Halford, but a note is a note.
awesome for who? And Justice For All is nothing compared with the three first records, fact bro, Kill em All was pure thrash at his finest, pure energy and power; Ride the Lightning was the shit, every song of the record is a classic, and Master of Puppets was the epitome of all the work last made, a prime composition impossible to match. And Justice for All only have 2 or 3 good songs, the rest is just fill
+Quartered3000 Blackened, And Justice For All, Eye Of The Beholder, One, Harvester Of Sorrow, Frayed Ends Of Sanity, To Live Is To Die. Those are all classics that are regularly performed at live concerts. The remaining 2 tracks, Shortest Straw and Dyers Eve, aren't really to be considered filler either. Many fans hold them among the best of the catalogue.
classics? maybe for you and the mainstream, when metallica decides to continue his career after Burton's death they took a directional change in his sound, and they start to make music for the masses and people like you, people that consider AJFA a jewel, but in the metal world, they were never looked as monsters they were, but I don't guilt them, after all, money rules the world, and to left it clear, I make my comments as a metalhead I am
+Quartered3000 You call And Justice For All music for the masses? come on dude, it's the most progressive they ever done. The shortest song on there is 05:14 (Dyers Eve). 10 minute songs with complex tempo changes, key changes, long instrumental parts etc, are certainly not "music for the masses"
exactly. even though they were the first step to take things to a darker/heavier level, they never considered themselves as a heavy metal band. that's where priest came in...
The same era? Are you serious? Judas Priest had released NINE studio albums before Metallica has even released their debut. Maybe YOU should get your facts straight.
I like Halford becuz his voice sounds light and has such a wide range, i love the grittiness and deep sound James voice has. They are both good in their own right. Case closed.
dude on of the most powerful lyrics ive ever heard is "darkness, imprisoning me, all that i see, absolute horror, i cannot live, i cannot die, trapped in my self, body my holding cell" everything on the ...and justice for all album has incredible lyrics.
For the people moaning about this Metallica are clearly joking around in this and just having a bit of fun, Judas Priest are one of Metallicas biggest influences so it’s just a light hearted joke that’s all
The man bellow said it all, repeat after me - Popularity does not equal quality, Popularity does not equal quality, Popularity does not equal quality, Popularity does not equal quality, Popularity does not equal quality, Popularity does not equal quality, Popularity does not equal quality, i'm living in a fuckin idiot world, if 100 million would jump in the fire, should i? HELL NO, i use my brain...
Wrong, Judas Priest has great lyrics just listen to Savage "You poisoned my tribe with civilized progress baptizing our blood with disease" (listen to the whole song or White Heat, Red Hot " The father's son, thy kingdom come, deliver us from all the fuss and give us sanctuary" to name a few The point is that both bands are amazing and have strong and weak lyrical moments Metallica: The Day that Never Comes "love is a four letter word"
@andromeda843 for the bands they had amazing singers, Tom Araya fits Slayers music perfectly and thats what matters, and in a top 100 heavy metal singers list, Tom Araya was at 55, Kurt Cobain at 20 and Hetfield at 20/30 something
