Truly one of the best and most unsung gems of Metallica's catalogue. Plenty of people do give it it's flowers, but it's still super underrated in general, even as far as just Black Album tracks go! Glad y'all did it for the channel 🤘

Bob rock got the idea from their sound live during the justice tour, Lars’ snare was crushing. Also they were touring with the cult for that tour who had just released sonic temple which had a very black album sound and also queensryches operation mindcrime released all around the same time. I believe they did a leg with Metallica in the late 80s too.

Regarding Hetfield's vocal style, there is a parody (very funny) band called beatallica, who mix Beatles and Metallica, and one of the things they highlight well is Hetfield's vocal mannerisms, with his stretched and harshed words at the end of every phrase. I recommend "Hey Dude" song.

Great video and song! I just can't take Hetfield seriously in movies, it fully cracked me up when he showed up in the Ted Bundy movie. In one of your previous Metallica videos, Richard, you started telling the story about how you first came to hear their first four albums, but then stopped, thinking you'd already told the story? You can scribble a lil' note in your RU-vid planner, that you haven't in fact told that story yet, if I'm not mistaken. By the way, unrelated, I'm wondering if Judson would ever consider doing a piano version of Lover, You Should've Come Over? The thought popped in to my head the other day, and I havne't been able to shake it, so... there, just wishful thinking out loud.

One of the best song of the BA. Also on few spot James has higher frecquencies from his older self in the middle The song is very beautiful melancolic, heavy chorus riff similar to Judas Priest the rage, and few kind of Justice heavy grooves. Great solo, bass, and drumming. On the money, inspired and original effective fills

If you ever have stuff from when 'tallica started to play thrash again, All Nightmare Long is likely the best song they've put out after 20 years in between Justice and DM, the period for which I care very little at all except for a few songs (like this one on the BM) and All Within My Hands (if it had a solo it would be a perfectly angry AF thrash metal song), it's the last song on St-Anger and probably the only one worth listening to along with Frantic, everything else is over-repeated verse/pre-chorus/chorus/verse on that abortion of an album, at least Kirk does some fancy effects with his pedals when All Within My Hands (the name of their charity btw, it's based on that song title) starts. If there was a way to make an AI change the snare sound for these 2 good tracks on St-Anger, maybe I could listen to them again (but never the entire album even if it was remastered and remixed by AI to make Lars sound good like he did on the corrected not fully compressed as all hell version of Death Magnetic. You can hear it very well in the Beyond Magnetic EP which was also surprisingly great to me. Hate Train has one of the most deranged riffs they ever put to a recording studio and sounds like DM should, like it does on the Guitar Hero : Metallica version where all the instruments are possible to isolate, an official reissue with this great mix was re-released in 2014 by Phonogram (? I'll have to verify that). Then there's some bangers on the better recorded 2 or 3 CD (although the 3 CD version only has 2 original tracks, I think, maybe just one, which is "Lords of Summer", it's the one I downloaded somewhere, I wasn't gonna pay for that 3 cd version for just one or two songs and the rest being live tracks. You made my morning though, I was forced to wake up in a bad mood by the city re-asphalting my street, which is long overdue, but the fact they can start road construction at 7 AM where I live is preposterous, maybe in the largest cities in Canada downtown 7AM is acceptable, but even then, as ex-Montreal Canadiens star Andrei Markov said "they should do that downtown heavy circulation during the day construction work at night like in Moscow ffs", which wouldn't be a bad idea, not where I live but in the big cities in this province where downtown is a constant construction zone on the road...sorry for the rambling here, this made me have a better mood but I'm still fog headed from having to wake up so early and the shit outside being so noisy there's no way I can get back to sleep and I went to sleep VERY late, so maybe just 3 hours of 🛌

@@ShounenN Nah, I heard all of em and I hate those album and I especially hate that fart smelling self-aggrandizing S&M. I guess Fuel is fun, thats about it. It's not even heavy metal which the black album at least is, the BA is like Metal Church album with a singer that's better on the ears with a massive insane budget. My older cousin who got me into punk, hardcore punk, crossover and then thrash (he did it the right way, slowly increasing the heaviness), who was taping me a bunch of his vinyl, cassette tape albums and cd's as long as I gave him a bunch of 90 minute gray TDK tapes' reaction to buying Load on tape (he only had heard Until it Sleeps and he imagined it was the grungy slow song on the album, nope, it wasn't the most non-metal song on there, I remember him throwing the tape outside his bedroom's window from a 7th floor apartment so much he was pissed off with them). I managed to like Fuel a bit as I grew older but otherwise, boooOOOrrring. I'd rather listen to what Slayer was putting out in the 90's several times over (Divine is a very underrated album for some very bad reasons I've explained before that I don't feel like repeating again here, post is getting long enough and DiM is not nu-metal, it has touches of alternative metal/industrial metal and is the most doom metal inspired album of theirs and when you hear certain riffs you know Jeff Hanneman was still a great songwriter, just that his arthritis that had already kicked in 3 years earlier, familial arthritis sucks, I know for sure and he made it worse with the increased drinking, but he made lemonade out of lemons by using Db tuning, made it easier on his hand to write songs. Slayer and to a smaller degree, Overkill are the only original thrash metal bands who got big major label contracts and didn't decide to abandon thrash and insert groove metal right away when it was monetarily expedient, Slayer did so a bit in the late 90's/the album that come out on 9/11 but I say that that one was more hardcore inspired than groove metal and DiM more doom/sludge metal inspired, and Divine was a no compromise full-on thrash metal album, the execs at Sony were like, this is great but we need a hit and Hanneman in a meeting said "you'll have to pick something in there and that's it", and they were kinda ballsy in their choices of singles, sure Tom sings in "Serenity In Murder" but also has his scream/yell he started to use on DI that is so great that it is sorely missed. Serenity had a bunch of pedal effects and slow doomy verses but the rest of the song is brutal as all hell. Meanwhile other tier 1 bands were selling out to please radio stations OR went more into a groove metal direction that led to their demise, at least I respect Exodus for doing one groove metal album and decided not to write new material until inspiration came back and the aftereffects of GHUA by Slayer resurrected thrash and created the big wave of thrash revival bands that still persists to this day....All Hail The Lich King 😏
