@@butterfly2604 I would think that is why. I can be sober for long time weeks months maybe a year anxiety is there it get better. But never like feeling better when drinking. Atleast for me. I feel I loose anxiety after i drank a few beers. It's tough. But it's in me by DNA. My mom have anxiety she never did drugs and hardly ever drink. Sure something she'll drink 10 oz or less of beer once a year or so. Anyway's she is 83 year old. I believe this is our brain isn't wired right. I did lot of drugs at the past so same goes to James. So our brain aint the same as young dudes. Brain damage is a thing. There is pills for anxiety but james will not be the same if he takes anxiety pills. My solve is drinking beer. Oh well I'm a alcoholic atleast I don't cause anybody harm neither to my family. And I don't get drunk to pass out.

I love artists whose fans may be suffering some type of mental affliction. Saw Disturbed back in Feb and there were a few points in the set where it was literally a great big therapy session! People... especially younger ones...look up to/idolize these folks so it's great to see them showing that it's perfectly okay to not be okay! Much love everyone & God bless! ~ Scott 🤘🏼💙

I saw em last July, and I couldn't agree more. When they played "Reason to Fight," the guy next to me basically started breaking down, so I put my arm around him and held him up. We ended up singing along with David, and the folks behind us held onto our shoulders until the song was done. It was hella emotional and an insane release, and I could feel the gratitude coming from the guy. I never got his name, and he didn't ask for mine. We just shared that few moments as fellow humans. I really hope he's doing okay and that he's succeeding in life right now. I hope he remembers that show as fondly as I do.

People who are unrepentant abusers carry around anxiety and James has been surrounded by super fans and yes men for so many years he hasn’t had to make good on that. It’s not just a coincidence that his reported anxiety issues and creative decline really began at the point he started abusing people like Jason and getting away with it. To this day we still haven’t even heard an apology for that, let alone making good on removing Jason’s bass from AJFA. James is clearly not the saintly teddy bear most of the fans see him as and I think he knows deep down he has work to do and his conscience won’t let him rest until he sorts it out.

You can clearly see his anxiety when he's sitting in his folding chair next to the stage right before he goes on stage. He's sucking on his cigar and fidgeting around. When you get sober after so long and don't have anything to numb you to anxiety, it hits hard. Also the fact that there's a huge team of people they employ, 60 semi trucks and all the pressure of playing HUGE stadiums... it would give anybody an anxiety attack but Lars appears to handle it well.

Absolutely true. I fall victim to that myself. IMO he REALLY needs to take his sobriety very seriously, that's the only way I AM able to keep those voices under control. When you're loaded, yeah it helps temporarily, but then when you're hungover/come down, then the anxiety hits like a Mack truck and you're too tired to fight back. I wish him the best he's absolutely legendary. Hopefully it passes, I was in a really, really dark place only just a few months ago I contemplated ending it all legitimately, for the first time in my life, and that scared the shit out of me. I wish nothing but the best for him, if only he could love himself half as much as we fans do.

Considering James history with substance use, it's important for James to be open with his emotions because if he or others like him don't open up to let the pressure out, they may relapse or worse... Being vulnerable is no longer a sign of weakness but is now seen as a sign of strength because it just feels so liberating to push away these toxic emotions out of your head.

I believeJames has high standard or expectations of a Metallica performance. I can imagine the adrenaline pumping before every show as they step out. I also think it's awesome that he's open and honest about this - helps us fans relate. I will add that there is a very real pressure on James - due to the standard set by himself! Metallica released some of the greatest Metal ever made and have been one of the greatest live bands ever - and that is REALLY hard to maintain in your 60s. I think he should still strive to release the best music possible and perform as well as possible BUT to also let go of the anxiety that it HAS TO be as great as it once was. Musicians are like athletes - we can't expect them to maintain the insanely high standard they set in their youth. Let go of that pressure and embrace the special and unique quality of an older Metallica - because during each phase of their career they lose something that they once had - but also gain something new. Their recent music and performances has a special magic to it that comes from their aged wisdom. Long may they reign!

When Metallica screws something up live it's the ultimate proof that they still do play it all themselves. And that it's not playback, like Kiss, Mötley Crue. When Metallica screws something up live, you gotta remember that Metallica is a 43 year old machine and that its bandmembers are in their sixties. I don't mind if they screw something up or even slow down in their tempo. I'm just glad that they are still around, and that the deep bond between these brothers has survived good and bad times so far.

Nobody will see my post and that is fine. I am 53 years old and l never believed that anxiety existed. I'm not trying to be mean I just thought people were having bad days. I am a top level sales rep so I fairly believed I had studied emotions more than most. However, I woke up at midnight, 2 hours after going to bed and was more awake than humanly possible. I immediately thought I was about to have a heart attack. I am in good health and this made zero sense. I paced the floor for 6 hours. I couldn't slow my heart or sit down. Each second I thought I was about to die. At the same time I was gripped with the feeling of foolishness. I felt that if I woke my wife I would be revealed as a simply a person having a weak moment. Unfortunately, I have had 2 other attacks in the middle of the night. There is something incredibly suffocating about this happening when everyone else is asleep that adds to the experience. When this first happened to James I'm ashamed to say I thought it was silly. As if this only happened to the famous. I couldn't have been more wrong. I have nothing to be worried about. In fact, I am blessed with a wonderful family and successful career (albeit on a more pedestrian level). I know people take advantage of such things and exploit them. This probably has added to my initial thoughts that people were fabricating issues that didn't actually exists. This has been the scariest thing I have ever dealt with. I am humbled to a point I hadn't believed possible. I have lost family members and I experience guilt that, in the moment, make me feel so foolish and weak. I can't imagine trying to walk on to a stage and deliver a performance. I'm sure no one will see this but I stand with you James. A metal brother from Kill em All. Hang in there as the absolute LEGEND you are as this only cements you as one of the greatest ever

I have dealt with depression my whole life and occasionally encountered people who didn’t/don’t believe it’s “real” and I understand why they might think that if they haven’t experienced it themselves but people need to recognize just because something hasn’t happened to them doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen anyone. This concept applies to mental health issues, addiction issues, trans issues and abuse in general. Despite you having to now deal with anxiety, it’s nice to hear that perspective shifts do in fact happen like this. 💯 thanks for sharing.

your first panic attacks. You might start getting de-realisation where it suddenly feels like the world around you isn't quite real, and you're not connected to it. Understand that these attacks will happen at weird, illogical moments, it's basically down to your mental chemistry (something that often gets thrown off balance through pro-longed busy schedules). Hopefully you see a doctor, this stuff is very normal and sometimes happens to me

James today is the opposite of who he was when younger, like all of us lol. He was hard back in the day, intense, asshole-ish.... these days we see a softer James, less intensity, and consistently has been an all round good guy. Ive watched his career since the 80's and the transition is like one ive never seen in a person. Of course it all started with rehab and I know we all change over time, we age, we mature etc, but James really changed quite a bit once sober after rehab. I'm guessing he is on daily meds to keep things on an even keel? Not sure, not my business.... maybe his skill set as a songwriter and musician is declining with age and that doesnt sit well with him. He knows things about his skill set that we dont know. We can watch him live and hear him play live and its awesome, but on a personal level, if his skill set is on the decline, that would certainly bring on self doubt and anxiety.

People grow, change and mature and people should be allowed to do so... You can't continue to punish someone for something ignorant they said 30 years ago... I would argue that you are doing the same as he once did, dismissing James' struggles because he did something you didn't like. And in that time since he said those things, he has had his own battles with addiction, had his own struggles. If the James that existed then had the same knowledge that the modern day version has, those words probably would never have been spoken...

I saw Metallica with GnR (Axl could hit the 5/8) in NOLA, 8/92, and that was peak both. Not only musically, but commercially. Even Lars was a decent drummer. Kirk didn't have arthritis and could not miss a string. James never forgot the lyrics. I remember I saw them again, in 2010 & 2011. Age was creeping in. Today, really, it's just sad. Also, I never liked Rob. Jason was no Cliff, but he was serviceable. And he could headbang like no other. Dude was intense. Kids today will never experience the greatest metal band of all time as they were. Maybe it's the type of music, maybe is the excessive touring over the years. I don't know. But I def don't like seeing this cliff dive. I believe that James being a shadow of himself is what is causing this depression. And not the other way around.

Seems odd to talk about mental health issues and needing to feel secure shortly after divorcing your wife and thus alienating your kids, especially considering they had grounded him emotionally for the past 30 years.

Why would it be odd to talk about it? You think it isn’t or shouldn’t impact him negatively?
@AAAA-lt9hq
@AAAA-lt9hq 3 месяца назад
@@michaelreyes2301 It should impact him negatively. But James in the 80s wouldn't have talked about his issues. He wrote his best music in the 80s because he put all his negative feelings into some of the best metal songs ever written instead of publicly bellyaching about his problems and putting out mediocre Southern rock that sounds more like Volbeat than Metallica. That said, when James expressed those negative feelings, he depersonalized them as social issues instead of making the music about himself. James's making everything about himself causes problems. By James's own admission Francesca prevented his alcoholism from getting worse. She is one reason why he went to rehab during "Some Kind of Monster" (he talks about realizing his problems while hunting in Siberia). She basically laid down an ultimatum that if he didn't get sober she was leaving and that put him back on the right track. The kids were all young then so they had a vested interest in staying together. While Metallica's new music in the 00s and 10s wasn't their best, they made a lot of money during this time touring, so Francesca saved his career. Then something changed. James has complained a lot lately, starting with the May 12, 2022 concert in Brazil, about feeling old and incapable--something that he clearly isn't when Metallica play their older material live even if their new music leaves something to be desired. Yet, even though Metallica is playing as well as ever, it's around this time that things started to crumble. The news of the divorce broke three months later on August 31, 2022. My understanding is James initiated the divorce and Francesca and the kids did not want it. My guess is James fell off the wagon, Francesca made another ultimatum, and with the kids now grown James decided to end the marriage because he felt controlled and he has always been about having control. By alienating the people who had kept him grounded, he was only hurting himself. To be fair, this is purely my speculation. By complaining about his mental health issues coming from a divorce he initiated, he's become something of a hypocrite, especially when he took on the "Papa Het" moniker because he had supposedly learned from the mistakes of his own absentee father Virgil. This is not to single James out unfairly. Dave and Pam Mustaine were the same way for a while but reconciled, especially around the time Dave's mother-in-law died. The thing is the more James has opened up about his personal issues in Metallica's music, arguably the worse and more melodramatic that music has become. "Dyer's Eve" on "Justice" gave us a glimpse into his psychology, and with each album after that James almost became as self-pitying as Kurt Cobain. Compared to his tough guy image in the 80s, all this new vulnerability from James has really hurt their music, especially when that vulnerability seems more about directing attention onto James than about his actually learning anything from his mistakes. We learned during "Some Kind of Monster" during his arguments with Lars that James can be very selfish and has a tendency to make everything about himself. He brought this up when his rehab sessions were cutting into recording time and he only wanted to work a few hours a day while everyone else was struggling to work without him. This was even more insulting when he would do things like reject Kirk's ideas, something James still does and Kirk resents. Kirk even told James, "Now you know how I've felt for the past 20 years," or something to that effect when James returned from rehab to find many song ideas had been changed without his knowledge and this pissed him off. Kirk is now to the point where he even admits that he does not put much work into his new solos because he thinks people don't pay attention to them, a toxic idea he could have only gotten from James and possibly Lars since they control everything in Metallica and let Kirk and Robert have writing credits when Lars and James feel like being generous. It's even pushed Kirk to make his "Portals" EP, something that was not bad and could have definitely been good Metallica song ideas had James and Lars permitted. Metallica's best work is when James, Kirk, Lars, Cliff, Jason, and Mustaine collaborated as a band. The more the band has become all about James, even at Lars's expense, the worse they have become. Last, James has recently taken pictures with his new girlfriend Adriana Gillette. My guess is during his "I'm almost 60" midlife crisis he felt the need to divorce his wife for a younger woman and this is the result. I have loved James's work since I was a kid in the 80s but I don't agree with the way he has treated his family. The "oh poor twisted me" schtick is getting tiresome. That said, I do wish him all the best.
