James's voice reached perfection on this show. Absolutely perfect.

Jason Newsted was truly the BEST backup vocalist any band can dream of. So much passion and energy. Miss that dude.

I don't call The Outlaw Torn a song, I call it a composition, especially S&M version. This is masterpiece.

Weirdly, The Outlaw Torn might be my favorite song behind Fade To Black and Orion. Such an underrated piece

The greatest band that's ever lived in my opinion. They've done it all.... thrash, heavy metal, hard rock, blues, country, and even a crazy concept album with Lou Reed. They've never been scared of doing anything! What an inspiration...

Here I sit, listening to this 20 years after the first time I heard it and still getting chills. This version of this song is the best they ever performed. Tell me I’m wrong. I remember going to local music store in ‘99 and buying the S&M album, I was 16, listening to it over and over and over again, I’d take it everywhere with me and my Discman. One time, my girlfriend and some of her friends thought it would be funny to hide the album as a prank, when I got it back and found out it wasn’t lost and they we’re fucking with me I dumped her. You don’t fuck with a man and his Metallica albums.

I know the chances are slim to none you'll see this, but Metallica is everything to me. I sang so much of Load to my son when he was a newborn. When my mom died, it got me through. Bad days of PTSD or depression...it's always there. This in particular.

This song transcends all genres and time itself. Every time I listen to it, I'm teletransported to a special place immediately. The blend between Metallica (James' nostalgic voice) and The Symphony simply is pure perfection. Long Live Metallica! 🤘🏽

ah, yeah....70 years metal head young here and this is the BEST. If it weren't for symphony, metal might not exist. I played violin in grade school orchestra. How I wish I could have been one of those violinists on this one. Battery and One will blow you away too! Love, love, love it!!!

This version of Outlaw Torn is my favorite song of all time. Simply amazing. Load is a great album that stood the test of time and aged well, I just don't think it's what the fans needed/wanted when it was released.. I would give anything to go back in time and see this concert live.

I think S&M is their best album. All is here : James voice at its summit, genius arrangments by Michael Keman and one of their best songs for the occasion : no leaf clover.

In my opinion, this is their best song ever. Only this version though. The symphony brilliantly fills in the holes left in the original Load composition.

True story believe it or not. I have what I believe is the very last guitar signed by all 4of these guys before Jason left. Minneapolis sold out so hard that they added 2 more shows, I waited out in the FREEZING cold 3 nights to get this done. They finally all came out on the last night. I was still in high school and just had a very old Conrad guitar that everyone else was snickering about. When hetfield finally came to me, he grabbed it like it was Excalibur and literally caressed it for several minutes and finally murmurs out, "I had one just like this when I was a kid" he signed it and graciously gave it back to me as if I had made his whole tour, the other people were all agape mouths on the ground. It was one of the greatest moments of my life.... Jason left the band shortly after. I have a pic of me and Jason while he is signing it. I hope this message reaches you guys somehow as I have now turned 40 and this song speaks to me even more now. Thank you for the amazing memory!

What did Load and Reload do to deserve the hate that they get? Just because it's not the usual thrash that Metallica did doesn't mean it's bad. They changed for The Black Album, and people still like that, but hate Load and Reload. They stepped outside their comfort zone, and the result was awesome. This is one of those songs where you can either listen to the studio version or this version and be absolutely blown away by either. In my opinion, we should get one more album like Load.

I first heard No Leaf Clover in December of '99, and got the album as a Christmas gift the same year, and wore it out. The combination of symphonic and heavy metal sounds hypnotized me. Even if the sound of the audience takes away from the experience a tiny bit, when I first heard Metallica and the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra playing together, I cried; it sounded so beautiful to me then, and it still does today. \m/

Let me say to the band, don’t ever be ashamed of anything you’ve done with anything and always embrace it! Load and reload included!!!

I think their best concert was '89 seattle but this is closest to that. - James' vocals are above his standard and i think that is a high standard - Jason is Jason. always playing with so much passion and demon like back vocals - Kirk'll give you the ultimate eargasm through his solos, that you wouldn't want it to end And even Lars is good.

Honest to God, Load is my favorite Metallica record behind Master of Puppets. Almost every song on that record resonates with me and I can appreciate and understand other people's opinions of it. But for me it is absolutely prime. And this version of The Outlaw Torn just helped to highlight everything that was right with that record. S&M is by far my favorite live album ever.
