When a Man Lies He Murders Some Part of the World These Are the Pale Deaths Which Men Miscall Their Lives All this I Cannot Bear to Witness Any Longer Cannot the Kingdom of Salvation Take Me Home RIP Cliff :)
Why are people fucking complaining all the fucking time? They are not 20 they are 50 +and fucking breathing. They are legends. Never look down on your legends. It's their way to play this song, it's theirs song not yours. This song was a tribute to dear Cliff Burton.
It's a shame they don't play this live regularly. Obviously it shows. But anyway songs like this are just genius - most of this album is simply genius. Not hard to see why Metallica are the biggest metal band in the world. I still love this album and it's the benchmark still after nearly 30 years.
NorthTimo All art is subjective. This song does have its own internal layers, largely as a piece dedicated to the life, death and legacy of Cliff Burton. That alone gives it depth. It depends on how deeply you are connected to the history of the band and to the influence of Cliff Burton. For me, Metallica changed my little teenage world about 30 years ago and Cliff inspired me to pick up a guitar. To this day, me, several friends (some of whom went on to be professional musicians), and even now my kids, all play music, in large part, because we were influenced by this band, and by Cliff Burton in particular. They are the Beatles, the Hendrix, the Stones, and the Zepplin of our era. “The song’s not that deep,” on a certain level that’s true. But for those of us who have literally grown up with this band as a constant companion to every phase of our lives, now in our 40’s and 50’s, it’s deep...for us.
My top 5:Orion, Master of Puppets, Ktulu, Blackened, Shortest Straw, 2 live is 2 die, Sanitarium, Seek &Destroy, Whiplash, For Whom the Bell Tolls, Fade 2 Black, Creeping Death, Dyers Eve, And Justice for All, Frayed Ends of Sanity, Ride the Lighting, oops, sorry that's more than 5. Honestly, you just can't go wrong with their first 4 albums.
7:23 - 8:16 Just two friends playing guitar together, paying tribute to their friend. Beautiful. also the way they look at each other at 7:50 is so precious
Kinda dug the new spin Kirk put on the solo's...Don't get why everyone's so bent. It's a live performance for fucks sake we have the record at home. And it's not even like it was that different. I'd also like to add in case you were wondering the middle part is what separates Metallica
the only part I didn't like is right before they went back to the main riff when the spoken words are, kirk was way off in his notes. it sounded awful. other than that it was sweet
Man, u so lucky to capture this for everyone. Apparently they dont play this live often at all. Best instrumental they made. Pretty spot on too. Thank you.
I'd be more worried if they were never alowed and never made mistakes like this.. Seeing one of the biggests bands screw up a little is good.. means rookies like us can screw up sometimes and not get super freaked out about it... and continue as though nothing happened like the pros do.
Yeah, Kirk screwed up quite a few times, but the first time, someone was talking to him and so he probably couldn't fully focus. Besides, Kirk has a ton of different melodies that he has to remember in this song, on top of playing both solos.
They have this song and played it very rare like dont even care about it. If belongs to any other band will be in every setlist. Metallica’s level is from another planet.
Kirks solos on AJFA are my favorites. They are filled with so much finesse and emotions. This album is still my favorite. It challenges the listener like no other metal album.
Im listening on my computer and Im crying. How james and others cannot cry? Its so hard to cant stand that and think. We really missed you Cliff really and I know you see us and hear us. İf ı had a chance to see cliff burton ı would give my everyting. Rest In Peace Ciff..
Look I can forgive Kirk for not playing the solos the same way they were and Lars for watering down the drums but why the hell did James not play his solo? It's the best part of the song and it made this a bit dissapointing.
He doesn't like playing solos as much as he likes writing them and other than that he's more known for his rhythm playing anyway. If he had to only remember this one thing all week (playing all his leads in TLITD) he probably would've done it himself, but as you know he also has to sing all the lyrics, play rhythm and as you know or might not know Metallica played a completely different setlist on every one of those 4 anniversary shows that week (total of 78 different songs, and a bunch of never played songs) so you probably can imagine that his head was spinning around enough with just getting all the lyrics and rhythms right.
One can learn ( he han relearn) this song in less than 1 hour. Rhythms are not difficult, there are no lyrics and his solo and harmonies all sound great but they're pretty simple. So that's no excuse. Playing (and remembering) something like FEoS would be tough, not this.
Walamonga 1313 I'd like to see you have a musical career of 30+ years and remember everything in your catalog for an anniversary show. Until you do you have no room to complain.
Thanks for the upload. A lot of memories resurface when hearing this tune. Great piece of music and really nice to get to hear it in a live format. Cheers!
My favourite part of this video is the watermark. I like not having to wonder who filmed the video; I spend a lot of time while watching youtube videos thinking "I sure wish my view of the content was obscured by a watermark telling me which hack filmed this!" Thanks FotherMucker00, you're a true hero
all you fucking complainers , my god. they got how many song / albums. and you want them to remember everything tune/solo/words , cmon ppl its metallica, the best there is , the best there was , the best there ever will be !!!!!!
I'm so disappointed that Kirk improvised the first solo and totally changed the second solo. The original solos are what gives the song the feel that it has.
John reed we can argue about tons of guitarists that are better at their 50 than their 20 30,kirk butchered it totally, its a shame to do that to a song that cliff had his last credits
I've thought about this some, and a lot of Kirk's "sloppiness" started in the mid 2000's when they started playing different sets every night. Before that they usually played the same set the entire tour with a few songs swapped out here or there... It's a lot to expect him to remember every solo note for note, and all considering he does a pretty good job of it. If you notice, the songs that tend to be in the set most nights he tends to nail.
This sucks!!!...They didn't play it the way I envisioned and they didn't do it exactly like the studio album!!!!......Just kidding....Spoiled brats on here with their quick access to live performances on a computer and judging like they were on chairs on the show The Voice.
people have an emotional relationship with Metallica's music. It doesnt take a spoiled brat to question why they skipped the intro, or why Lars + Kirk arent even trying to play it right. It could be ok if they were virtuoso players who could improv BETTER material.. i dont feel they are tho. I played in bands, very small time but we cared about playing our own material rightl. It feels like some of the band members have less respect for their own music than we the fans do.
Kirk Hammett never does it like the studio. Some times it sucks, but some times it's, I don't wanna say it's better, but it is better for that shows atmosphere. There're two more things. Second is that the material is so complicated that they're not comfortable to do it exactly like the studio. First is that the guitars and phases need to retune for some parts. I'd been in Metallica live just one time in turkey and it is no comparable with other bands. Absolutely high quality and lots of fun. But as you said it does matter when we watch it on RU-vid.
Kirk takes both the solos,I'm pretty sure James plays the second one his are usually more soulful and melodic even if it's rare that he plays them;NEM,one in Orion and the first one in Puppets are all I can remember but I'm sure someone else knows more
Yeah, James doesn't like playing solos as much as writing them and on top of that he was probably trying to keep his main focus on all the lyrics (they played a completely different set every night bar the closing track which was always S&D) and rhythms he had to sing/play that night.
This is so awesome. Orion evokes a fired up feeling but this instrumental is very emotional and evokes a sense of loss and sadness and bittersweet feelings. I love it.
I absolutely love the song, I learned how to play it on guitar when I heard it many years ago and it was the classical intro that was one of the most beautiful parts of the song, they have left that part out of almost every live set and I've been disappointed in a sense every time. No matter how well they played it I still really wanted to see them do it I its entirety. Thing is they are good enough to not mess up. When you are at there level bass player not included.. you are kinda expected to preform. I'm nowhere near as good or ever will be, but I learned how to play because of these guys are it's like they don't care anymore.
they kinda fucked it up in many parts :)...no matter, they were probably nervous 'cause they were playing it for the first time...still love them, always will
Damn I love this band. I love every song that they've ever recorded. Load, ReLoad, and St. Anger included. In my opinion, they're the biggest and greatest metal band ever. But fucking hell when I listen to some of their live sets they look tired. I get the feeling that Lars only remotely knows what song they're playing. James isn't as emotional about the songs because he's playing them all fifty million times. Kirk tries to improve to bring life into the song but goes way off key...
I'm aware that they tune down live. I'm talking about Kirk playing notes that have nothing to do with the key they are playing in, whatever key it is at any given time.
I dunno, I'm a solid intermediate skill guitar player, I took the time to learn the sick intro tho this......why these guys can't is beyond me. This song is "needs". ALL the parts to remain untouchable. Cool they are playing it, but as usual, Metallica cuts corners.
What are you talking about?! What is superb do you think? Have you listened to the original track? Kirk is terrible here. He has spoiled one of the greatest melodies ever created. The solo he begins to play at 6:43 is spoiled just because of mistake. He couldn't solve it in time and so has played some shit!!!
Сергей Капустин which one of your questions you want to be answered first? It looks like you don't even need any answers, right? :) Can I mention that all that instrumental is in fact one big solo guitar player's performance (ok, let's get rid of Kirk, I've got it, he bothers you, God bless Dave and etc.)? This song hasn't EVER been played live till the day of this record, the original has been recorded almost 24 years ago, the sound effect in the "solo" you mentioned (it isn't really a solo, just a supporting back effect) is quite special - under those conditions it has been quite of a chance for some spoilers. Kirk made the minimum damage, I guess. Two real solos were almost perfect. I would rather call a spoiler the sound of James' guitar, in some moments it's just awful.
