Only Metallica have ever played all seven continents. Sound quality isn't 1st class, but wtf do you expect on a giant ice cube, inside a glorified igloo where it's minus 30 degrees and where there are (ironically) noise level laws? The people wandering around are likely security and yes, Megadeth are great, but ffs, Metallica are still a great live band and are still one of the best metal bands, ever, period.

Plus, metallica had the chance to turn down this concert, they did it either to have recognition for playing in all 7 continents or to give those 50/60 people a thrill they never had before. Nevertheless, it was nice from them imo.

Metallica is a Corporation because they have been Very successful for almsot 30 years. They have a Huge, World Wide Fan Base. It takes a corporation to promote and manage them. Death Magnetic wasn't a "Commercial" Album. Metallica is the Best Heavy Metal Band Ever.

Why is everybody hating on Metallica here? First of all, playing in this cold weather is not easy, you can clearly tell Kirk is struggling to play solos properly (on the other hand, Lars is Lars and plays the same sloppy drum fills here and in the rest of the world). It's not a great concert but it's not supposed to be, it's more of a symbolic act. Besides, repeating 10000 times that they sold out and how much their music has decayed doesn't change the fact that 1. They have their own right to compose the music they want, you just decide to like it or not. And 2. No one is an angel; I listen to them because I like all their albums except St. Anger, not because I love everything about them or think they're perfect humans. I just like their music with their limitations and virtues.
Didn't know 'symbolic' involved money grabbing...or did they do it for free. If they had any attitude left, they'd give a big 'fuck you' to a corporation that is making money by destroying peoples health and evading taxes whilst doing so. Metallica and thrash came into existence as a reaction against glam metal. Now they are the dressed up Puppets and corporate money is their Master.
Of course they won money with this event but still, if you were in a band, would you refuse to play in Antarctica? Not many bands have done it before, and I'm pretty sure most would accept, it's not selling to Cocacola specifically. Totally agree with what you said about Cocacola corporation, but I repeat I just care about the music, not the sponsor.
Truly? I would decline if it was for Coca Cola, and anyone who really cares about their own music would not see it linked to companies that have ethical issues. Metal is about reacting against this kind of injustice...instead Metallica is now contributing to it. And their music hasn't been very good for the past 20 years either. Metallica is nothing more than a commercial hoax anymore. Machine Head, Opeth, Ghost, Mastodon, Five Finger Death Punch ... and a ton more bands that make better music and give better shows than Metallica does these days, for a substantially smaller amount than Lica does. Hell, even Megadeth does better and I think Mustain is an even bigger asshole.
Sick of everyone saying that Metallica sucks just because their best days are behind them and all of their music doesn't sound like Ride the Lightning anymore... Bands evolve. It happens. If every album sounded like their first three, people would get bored. They aren't what they used to be live because they are in their 50s... damn, give them a break. Joint pain and carpel tunnel tend to fuck with your ability to play live, not to mention having a lot less energy than you used to. And finally, this video sounds the way it does because they are playing in freezing temperatures. Quit acting like Metallica is dead and worthless now.

I see there a still a bunch of people mad at Lars about the Napster situation that happened almost 20 years ago. They somehow have held a grudge for two decades but still clicked to watch this video. Would love to see some video replies of these people doing a better job of drumming, especially if they are over 50 like Lars.

I recommend that you listen to bands such as Anvil, Annihilator or Suicidal Tendencies, without having to have all the infrastructure that has metallica, give us best concerts because they have more stage presence, musical talent and enjoy playing

Hetfield's voice almost sounds like it did in back in the 80's here - much raspier/gruffer at times and less clean in general. The cold must have shocked him back into his old-school singing style - ha ha

The efficiency of solar panels is their main issue. Most panels used by public/business today have a maximum theoretical efficiency of like 35%. In practice they only get around 25% to 30% though.
I doubt the ones used by the Ecologists and Metallica are the consumer level solar panels. Technology is gaining ground, and reverting to nuclear is not the answer. I am an Ecologist/Environmental scientist and historian btw, but I appreciate the intellectual discussion. ;)
Aonghus MacCready You mentioned nuclear power, but is that really that bad? I see the issue with uranium, but one option that hasn't been explored is thorium. Why? It's more efficient, more plentiful, cheaper, and clean. So why not thorium? Ideally solar panels would become the main source of power, but it will be a long time before they become efficient enough to take over. What should we use until solar technology catches up?
