@@TheStrangr2112 That's pretty much where the animation budget went on this show. You can pretty much learn to play every song from this show by watching it frame by frame
That’s legitimately the best part of this show. The realistic animation of the guitars and drums is why so many musicians love this show, even if they aren’t fans of metal.
Still can’t get over how they tried to keep the rights too the music he made for the show and we’re gonna turn it into some horrendous bs ahaha. Glad he got out when did, like I don’t recall many shows that had a entire album every season lmao well that was worth listening too lol
It’s almost as if, by hyper-catering to an extremely small and extremely cheap audience, that Brendan Small ruined another one of his projects by focusing on the wrong shit and being impossible to work with.
@@user-ip1um7tv6n Its not a whole season, it's an hour long rock opera thing called Doomstar Requiem. Unfortunately I have no idea where you can see it.
so I just realized something.... Toki turns into a falcon (Snow Falcon) and Skwisgaar turns into a horse/ centuar (Thunderhorse). If you are unaware, Brendon's two signature guitars are the Thunderhorse and the Snow falcon, so I guess that's a bit of an easter egg that I thought was interesting. Ok, that's all.
lol it true just like at the beginning of the video you can see that his shadow has wings.. toki is in some way the angel of death... everything he loves or what he gets attached to dies..
And yets Toki is a hottie XD and skwisgaar is not so i donts gets whys he gets so much tails XD Toki clearly needs the lovin, abused all his damn life.
@@andrewanderson1755 thats the point the author wanted to make Toki is more gifted but he doesnt practice becouse he cant recognise his own talent while Skwisgaar practices everyday despite already being the best its a metaphore that talent may give you a lot but only hard work and dedication can bring you to the very top
Skwisgaar is a wizard, characterized by ceaseless study and discipline and mastery. Toki is a sorcerer, performing feats with intuition and innate, unknowable predilection. How is Skwissgar so good? It's wizardry. And how can Toki keep up at all? That's sorcery.
Toki is death but having giant wings has nothing to do with it. Toki has giant wings because of his guitar. He plays a snow Falcon Flying V. Same with Skwisgaar. He is a horse because his guitar is a Thunderhorse.
@@andrewandrew3713 Are you new here? I think you're new here. The Thunderhorse is Skwisgaar's signature silverburst Explorer WITH THES BURST BUCKERS PICKUPS! Moon just neglected to mention that in this video he *also* uses a "snow horse" version of his signature because it's common knowledge at this point. There's also a Ghosthorse Explorer out there that goes for 700-800 dollars brand new that's actually still in production, as opposed to the Thunderhorse which was discontinued a while ago and costs 1000-1300 dollars on the resale market because there's nothing quite like an exorbitant markup on a regular old tricked out Epiphone, right? And although the snow horse guitar doesn't officially exist, there are *MANY* high end custom builds as well as affordable chibson options out there for budgeted guitarists like me.
Idk why and it sounds so corny but this scene always makes me emotional. Toki coming to them cause he felt something beyond this world telling him to go to them. Pouring out his little heart. Them realizing how powerful his talent is. It’s the last piece of the puzzle. The true birth of the Gods.
Absolutely, it's very emotional and that makes it so much better. Toki's little intro is so absolutely sweet too. That makes it even more awesome when he is actually on Swisgaar's level.
@@ZeroOmega-vg8nq Its also a message about what the creators think about hard work. You might be a naturally talented genius, but the guy who works hard will always be better than you if you don't put in the work.
It still saddens me knowing The Doomstar Requiem is most likely the last of Metalocalypse. It was one of the few shows I've watched that had me hooked since the beginning and this emotionally attached to the characters. I really wish it hadn't ended.
Trinity Cantu Adult Swim has a habit of bringing shows back after about 10 years. Samurai Jack, Harvey Birdman...so in 5 years we’ll have a new season of Metalocalypse.
@@BlueSkyCrystals Will? Thats pretty bold. They just took Home Movies and Metalocalypse off Hulu, those bastards (good thing I have all the M dvds, except season 3 (lost it)
@@BlueSkyCrystals Highly unlikely that will happen considering what they did to the guy that made the show...trolled him hard. Fans too. He died a few months ago.
Kittehh Rawrs They’ll still do it. Nostalgia builds hype very easily. They make money off it all the time. The only question is if Brendan Small wants to do it by then. I know they can do it without him since they own the rights, but they’d need him to bring the fans back.
@@BlueSkyCrystals I doubt they could do it without him. He's 3/5 of the main cast! (More than that if you count people like Offdenson.) He's most of the people on the show, and without him, they wouldn't even have the music!
The lights flicker when Toki says “Can you feel it? Electricity.” This is the first time The Five have been united so they would be feeling their true power for the first time.
I don't think I'd noticed the storytelling through music theory that's going on here before now. The battle starts with a fairly standard opening gambit (a couple of pentatonic licks with some showy sweeping for skwissgar) which toki matches. Skwissgar then tests his opponent with some short licks, Toki responds in kind and begins harmonising with Skwissgar, showing his prowess and compatibilty. Skwissgar becomes more aggressive, using using some fast atonal picking and firing some complex sweeps at Toki; again countered blow for blow which somehow turns them baroque. By this stage they have begun to work together and transcend into the sky accompanied by perfectly synchronised (and relatively complex) harmonised lead lines to showcase their instinctive understanding of each others playing. I fucking love this show.
accurate depiction of that feeling when you meet another guitarist and you both manage to harmonize your leads for the first time after finding out you're both guitarists
One thing i love most about this is their faces when Toki starts playing. It hasnt even been a few seconds and all hes doing is mimicking Skwisgar on a basic level but the sheer fact that he can even do that is impressive to them since no one else that showed up or possibly even anyone in the world could even stand against Skwisgars playing much less play along.
I really like the blink and you miss it bit right after the baroque part. If you look at Skwisgaar's face, he's full ass smiling. He's not fighting him anymore, he's actually enjoying their jam session.
Even the drums blow my mind, not even considering the mighty epicness of the guitars. Fucking cartoon music, and bolws most bands into tiny pieces of rust...
Brendon (Sp?) Small has been in the Business a LONG time, doing such pieces as the Original Power Rangers opening. He has A LOT of experience doing both live and show tracks.

Toki is my favorite. Hes just got a lot of spirit to him thats not all blood and gore. Hes got a soft spot which makes him a little like everyone else :)
@@hamburgerbento4992 Scales and arpeggios are indeed serious business. Skwisgaar, being obsessed with his technique (he takes his guitar into the hot tub, FFS), would have disqualified him for failing this part alone. Okay, I still laughed.
Realized that it also presents a super interesting narrative that during this duel, they can pull back and play harmoniously. Feeding each others creative voice during this exchange of performance cohesiveness
Skwisgaar is like a virtuoso with technical skill attained from tons of practice. Toki is like the kind of lazy, but extremely talented guitar player that doesn't practice, but has a natural flow whenever he picks one up. This duel is like a good representation of Hard Work vs. Natural talent.
I love how Toki quite literally is the greatest guitar player in the world, even greater than Skwisgaar, but he just doesn't practice and doesn't take attention that well.
@@fireemblemaddict128 Apologies then, if we want to get all technical about it. Toki has the ability to ***EASILY*** overcome literally every other guitarist and become the greatest literally any time he wants. As far as my books go, that's the greatest.
@@Snow_Jay_Simpson It's been proven before, time and time again, that he is only the current #1 because Toki doesn't care enough to put him in his proper #2 place. It's also been shown that Toki can't handle playing live if all the attention is on him. Skwisgaar is only the best because Toki *allows* him to be.
@@gabrielbjornursidae Lets get this straight, any guitarist can play like toki or skisgaar because it's nothing but brendan small, brendan small is talented, but his art tells us he knows he can tap into his inner toki, and his inner skwisgar thus is battling against himself from being an "idiot savant", and a hard worker, who knows there's much better guitarists out there. Brendan can't improvise, and that is a ridiculous skill unto itself, if brendan went against guthrie govan in a "guitar solo duel" brendan would be lost without hearing the chord progressions ad nauseum, while guthrie govan can probably improvise any western musical chord progression with no problem. and probably play his songs by just hearing them. But i doubt brendan small could play "wonderful slippery thing" or "Waves" without long practice. There's classical guitarists who can hear your music, transcribe it, and play a better melody with one hearing. Again this sounds stupid to argue about, because they aren't the best guitarists only in this fictional world of art. And in real life, being the best guitarist sometimes means that you aren't even known by anyone, and sometimes being the better businessman means getting your name out there and people liking your work enough that you move the genre forward, whatever genre it might be. Thus people calling u the next hendrix, or van halen just because you moved the genre forward, every decade has its greatest guitarists and in the mainstream its starting to mean less and less.
Toki's shadow is a flacon, and his guitar in the in seasons 3 and 4 is called the snow falcon that's why he turned into a falcon skwisgaar's guitar is called the thunderhorse , that's why he turned into a horse
well i guess its not 100% sure but anyway ^^ www.idigitaltimes.com/metalocalypse-season-5-release-date-creator-brendon-small-explains-how-make-it-happen-472614
I enjoy the symbolism here. Toki is gifted with innate talent, therefor he "flies" through his playing because the passion drives him. Skwisgaar has so much experience that he could "run forever" and "carry the band" with his exceptional skills he's earned through years of diligent practice.
My friend and I watched the show multiple times. As modern metalheads, we were so excited for a whole movie of Metalocalypse. We were severely disappointed, but at least this track slams!
Currently learning this and it's the single hardest piece I've ever done, primarily Skwisgaar's half. Nuts. Love the show and listen to the music to this day. My fingers hurt now. 🤘🤘🤘
"All rights...You seems so nice it's a shame it must go downs this way..." This is Skwisgar literally informing Toki he was about to fulfill the man's wish and murder him with the power of his guitar. Nothing personal, it's just what happens when mortals come to the attention of a rock god. :D
However, he soon realized that he had met his equal and opposite. The god of life was now face-to-face with the god of death. And although life had won, death will always be in his shadow.
Only In Metalocalypse Can You Witness A Horse/Man, Bird/Man, Sky Battle With Awesome Guitar Solos And Riffs Along With Magic Harry Potter Like Bolts Flying Past One Another And Originating Out Of The Guitars Themselves. Fucking Hilarious And Sick.
I think it's supposed to be a falcon because of their guitar naming conventions. Skwisgaar has the Snow Horse Explorer here (later he has the Thunder Horse Explorer) and Toki's white flying V Guitar that he had in one episode is called Snow Falcon.
Anybody else notice that at this point in history when toki's hair is flowing in the wind it looks like a hawk flying and skwisgaars hair looks like a horses mane? Just me trying to make connections? Alright.
His voice starts to change after the episode where their parents are brought in. Because Toki begins to mentally regress at that point, and his voice changes to match.
I love how when Swissgar turns to a Centaur he looks back and realizes Toki (as a man/falcon) is catching up to him. Swissgar never had to play so hard against someone before.
I remember when I first heard this back when doom star requiem first aired; the hair on my arms stood straight up. Still get that feeling, especially at 2:15
I'm kinda sad that I feel there will never be a segment like this again. The dynamics of the two, the symbolism, every movement synchronized, the fucking pinkies at 1:56. Absolute masterclass.
I remember when I was a kid, I used to watch almost every cartoon and anime the tv can offer, bugs bunny, martin mystery, family guy, everything. One day I was watching tv but I forgot what show I was watching, this show aired next. I had no idea it was a metal show that's not intended for children. My family didn't mind at all. This episode was the one that played when I first watched it. I got so into the music and I couldn't stop thinking about how awesome it was! I believe this part in particular got me into metal 🤘🔥
@@raylenn4444 the thing is the Doomstar Requiem wasn't meant to be the end of Metalocalypse. Brendon Small (show creator, Voice of most of the main cast, etc) was gonna try to finish the series with a season 5 and was willing to crowd fund it if he had to but Adult Swim didn't allow it. Brendon had a ending planned but wasn't able to complete it, so I don't think that "rot" would happen. Luckily AS announced earlier this year they will allow Brendon to end the series with a movie.
As awesome as this is on the guitar, the truth is that Hoglan fucking MURDERED those drums in amazing ways to accent the whole thing, do incredible stuff, and STILL somehow be third-fiddle.
My favorite part about this personally is that it proves Toki has been able to hold his own against Swisgaar since day 1. The fact that Toki is "bad" compared to Swisgaar is simply Toki being self conscious and afraid to play to his full potential.
