This is an introduction to Chapters 4-7 in the Special Paper 52 of the Geological Association of Canada.
Special Paper 52 contains contributions from experts around the world who combine rigorous field and drill core observation with petrology, geochemistry, mineral chemistry, and geophysics to radically improve our understanding of metasomatic iron and alkali-calcic mineral systems and how they generate iron oxide copper-gold (IOCG), iron oxide-apatite (IOA) and affiliated critical metal deposits. The 16 chapters provide robust frameworks to evaluate the prospectivity of these mineral systems.
