I have travelled in YAM1 pulled cholan exp and Shencottah passenger in my child days. I have also travelled in MG MEMU of chennai also till their end. I have also travelled many times in MG steam loco, YDM4 loco pulled trains. Their were last seen and run between Villupuram JN to TPJ JN till 2003 when they breathed their last on MG conversion. Such was speed and acceleration of YAM1 that neutral to 40 in just 20 to 30 seconds and braking system also good. But that time no crowded stations etc. Today Chennai MGR , Egmore , Tambaram, Tiruchi all are having kumbh mela crowds daily and it is huge unruly political party meeting like situation on departure of trains to Kannyakumari, Nagercoil, Tirunelveli and Madurai from EGmore and also at central MGR. Those golden era will never happen. thanks
YAM had the logo plates of Mitsubishi Hitachi and YAM stuck on the body. Twenty five of these locos were imported from Japan and they hauled trains between Chennai Egmore and Villupuram only and after that the locos were changed to YDM.
new trains are amazing but old trains were not just our transport medium but they were our emotions, sadly most of the routes are electrified and broad gauge.

I had the previleage to travel in these EMUs and YAM1 hauled trains. Trust me they were beasts in tractive effort and pickup. We used to see many chases between BG EMU and MG EMUs between Tambaram and Egmore(MG EMU is only upto Egmore). My all time favourite was these MG EMUs. And watching YAM1 loco hauled trains itself is a very interesting site those days. I used to wait for the VM-TBM pass just to see this loco and beautiful manly Honk.
im from chennai during my school day i had done loco ride in YAM1- loco shed is Tambaram im from Tambaram, my father is Loco pilot he had worked in MG electric EMU from Tambaram to Villupuram (VM), MG YAM1, in express and goods, YDM4, WDMs, BG EMU, MEMU,DEMU,WDP1-4 and WAP1,4,5,7, now Vande bharat. VAIGAI MG IS DONE BY YDM4A END TO END Not YAM1s at 100-105kmph. YAM1 has HMT logo plinthed in loco. Every LP used to work here call it as Maruti 800. MG era was golden times, but travel time was lot, due to single line section. I have literally used that throttle looks like as steering wheel. Our daily life used to revolve with MG EMUS now missing chota trains
If i were the Rail Minister i would start a project called "Lost Railway of Indian Railways ". Due to these greedy govts. they stopped and demolished all the metre guage routes in india as well as steam locos of BG & MG & the electric locos of MG are in a static display in Railway Museums alongwith MG EMU trainsets.😊 Even countries like Indonesia uses Metre Guage trains which run at 120kmph top speed and the ride quality is so smooth which i have seen in many videos. EMU trains run in those tracks and the tracks are smooth. Japan also uses narrow guage rly track in which local trains, metros, limited express runs on time.😊

Factual error … Vaigai express was hauled throughout from Chennai Egmore to Madurai by a YDM-4 loco . The route between Egmore and Villupuram was the only electrified metre gauge track in India . The trains used to change loco from electric to diesel in Villupuram . The MG electric shed was in Tambaram and the YDM-4s were from Golden Rock shed

Very good video. Keep it up!! I have travelled in Pallavan express with this YAM. Also travelled extensively in the MG EMUs inside Chennai. Tambaram electric shed was and is too big. Tambaram is my maternal grandparents place. MG EMUs had a much better acceleration than today’s BG EMUs (perhaps because of the lighter load)
