Although the Smart Meter has replace virtually all of the Meter Readers for PGE this video shows just how much walking and effort were required to do the job.
Love the honesty of this video... I wish they would have showed it to me before i started lol. I did this for a year and half. Personally if i was to have kept doing it I probably wouldnt be typing right now with the daily b.s. I put up with. Not to mention dogs...and dogs...and dogs lol.
Retired 18 months ago after34 years meter reading in the North of England, was bitten, clawed, hostile customers, men came on to me twice, a woman with a Zimmer frame came on to me and it wasn't pretty I can tell you. I was cornered by 3 dogs once and bitten, held in houses 3 times, it could be quite stressful. I have some right stories. Most customers were sound though and I learnt how to deal with people. I certainly didn't earn that kind of money though. I spoke with war veteran s etc. I saw some interesting stuff. Still winding down now! Be interesting to have a day out in NY or San Francisco with a meter reader! Busy writing my memoirs in retirement. I wish all meter readers well across the world and watch your back, Robin W. P.S. When the wife and I have been to Europe I have checked out Italian, Austrian etc. Meters but only when she wasn't looking!
imagine if we could just call in and enter the readings of our meter in a telephone system designed for such. OR email a picture of the reading. smh...seriously humans act like we're still in the stone age.
@@TheSlice0flife Taking a picture of the reading and emailing it would work. Also if you're an established account they have a good idea of your power usage. What isn't acceptable is installing very dangerous technology that contaminates the power lines and brings dirty electricity in on the wiring. These meters in use here are likely responsible for sickening and killing people. Here's a blog post about this issue here: neighborsorganizingagainsttrespassingtechnology.blog/2020/12/14/aggressive-brain-cancer-dangerous-readings-at-the-electric-outlet-by-her-desk-smart-meter-suspected/
Hey Macie. Love to read your memoirs on meter reading. I retired after 42 years. Started as a 21 year old and read til I was 63. I’m the fella at the beginning of the video. I actually stated as a reader because I needed my weekends free to video tape weddings. You can contact me at highlightvideo@comcast.net.
Getting ready to retire after 30 years in this department looking back glade I stuck with it now getting ready to hit easy street I’ll have 37 years in working after I finish up my job now😊 peace to everyone . Ps don’t forget to vote in the 2024 election let’s vote them democrats out.😊
99% of the "Obstacles" or "tight spaces" are EXTREMELY manageable...lol. Oohhhh. try a real hard job like framing homes, masonry or Roofing. This shit is a walk in the park.
@Christopher White You are 100 percent right on the money. Talking shit is right. Reading meters is like being ready to go into combat every day. How many pit bulls do you see on top of a roof? I had 3 of them turned on me one day in Cicero Illinois. It was a very narrow escape. I would be DEAD.
@Christopher White Being a police officer is safer than being a meter reader in a large urban environment. People are equally as hostile. Cop's get to have a gun though.
@@terryomalley9669 exactly and you’d be surprised about the amount of people that don’t know someone comes and reads their meter. This job is seriously dangerous
