You wouldn't believe how many water and electric meters are read each month in Edmond. Your Edmond host Eric Smith talks with one of Edmond's meter readers about his job responsibilities.
I'm a meter reader in my city those that think this is easy have never done it before I read 4500 hundred meters a month it takes 9 days all weather conditions have only have been bitten once by a dog in 3 years hats off to you I know how hard your job is
4500 meters is 225 meters a day lol, i use to read 900 a day and i knew experienced readers who would do 1500 a day on average. but it was definitely not fun going into those backyards not knowing whats around the corner
i love reading not every day is the same, you meet all kinds of people and you know all that is going on in the city you work.and we do get a work out that most people pay for but we get paid to do it.
At 3:24 - for this case, you don't look at the red sweep hand to read the meter; you look at the black numbers with white background located on the left hand side of the 'odometer' .
I read electric meters for close to 20 years. Easy job. You get to know where the bad dogs are. People get to know when you are coming to read their meter. No big deal. You can get in fantastic shape walking all day.
@@SleepyDogg if your interested just know theres a lot of walking depending on how much they give you. i remember doing 40,000 steps a day. but the bad part was going into peoples backyards not knowing who you are and let a dog out on you lol
i read meters and we read anywhere from 400 to 1500 meters a day... there are 40 of us and we are great at it...i been doing it for 2 1/2 years ... pay and insurance is great
what if they leave my cover open and this is not a flat cover so its pretty heavy and they didnt lock it so you can move it with your foot or even your hand.. do i call the water company to fix it or is that house its supposed to be?
Nice job, people need to be more mindful of their aggressive dogs, though. ive seen vicious dogs tied to the meter pole, etc. Deliberate hardship and disrespect for the utility meter reader is quite common. You're going in to bill people, essentially, not everyone is so friendly about it. A few rotten apples ruin the overall job perks.
If you extended the handle of your meter key to about 3 foot long, you wouldn't have to get down on your knees at every meter. Faster and more ergonomic.
