just remembered how fucking badass this game was when i played it on the cube back in the day. all these years later it's still BY FAR the best fps ive ever played
Collin Drey This is more accurate. The shooting mechanics are too far off from a typical FPS and the gameplay is still very much platformy and metroidvania styles. It's a First person adventure game.
One of my only claims to fame in the gaming world is that I was the one who originally discovered you could burn off Ridley's wings by boosting into his chest. Though I never imagined you could do it while he is still flying! Wow. Brings back so much nostalgia of when I was part of the m2k2 community and used to try speedrunning this game. It's amazing to see all the new tricks and the way the route has evolved since I stopped following this fandom. I was floored to see IBBF as part of an actual speedrun. I remember way back when wallcrawling was considered cheating!
Yeah and plus the GameCube had better graphics then the PS2 though the Xbox (original) was the most powerful of the 2 I agree these old graphics are better compared to today's games and graphics. I still prefer them.
Best game I ever played, doubt anything will ever best it for me. the first time I played this game I was truly captivated, I play it every few years and it still get me every time :) Good job on the speed run
amazing skills mate, I've watched this several times and I still cant believe the accuracy with which you pull off those moves... damn ghetto jumps are so hard for me.
Hey since I cant really send you a message to your channel. I want to ask permission to use this footage for a metroid retrospective video I'm compiling. Will give proper credit to you and link back to this video.
0-00 was the original version of the game before they made any patches for it. The reason it matters is since most of the patches that they did took out almost all of the sequence breaking that you see in these videos, including the Double Jump First trick. Thus, only 0-00 copies of the game can be effectively speed-run.
***** The other versions can be speedrun, but they're considered different categories due to the differences that make them all slower then the original, with the exception of 0-01, which is nearly identical to 0-00. 0-01 is pretty rare though.
The Wii U Trilogy version has better load times, which means doors open faster. It would be fascinating to see how much time could be shaved off the clock if the speedrun was done on that version. Although the motion controls may not be ideal, even if they work pretty good.
Many of the tricks that can be used in the GCN version are removed from the Trilogy version. These tricks end up saving a load of time, more than the time you would save from all of the doors instantly opening. As a result, the Trilogy will always be slower than the GCN version.
+jenny talia no real cuts...some graphical effects were changed or removed for whatever reason. A lot of glitches were patched though. Some still exist. Not ideal for speed runners. Unless you're doing a glitch free run.
this game samus is saying "im not playing a story line ,.. im runnin an erran.." "just passing by slaying these enemies before i go back to base joe" ... "ok samus dont take to long>>" lol
Amazing run.. i would have to be on heroine to have the guts to blow through this shit like you did.. i remember those long nights playing this, killing one fucking enemy at a time, all freaked out and shit.
When he got the space boots in less than 8 mins. I nearly threw my phone at the wall. It took me 3 hours to finally reach that point. Via the elevator on the upper level which is accessed later in the game
The cool part about this game is you uncover the story instead of having the story told to you. One of my favorite features in the game is the scan visor. Sure it may slow the game down at times, but it doesn't matter when you're having so much fun.
Additionally, a new Metroid Prime speed run world record was made by RU-vidr TRR010, with a run lasting a brief 55 minutes and 53 seconds. According to Speed Demos Archive, it previously it took over 56 minutes for anyone to complete the game. Check out TRR010's incredible Metroid Prime run below. What a terrible article, it sounds like someone is going crazy over a 7 second improvement. The 56 run from miles was already completely insanely fast but that isnt really made clear there lol. Also well done, cosmo.
No idea how I never made the connection before. Samus the Hedgehog! Probably been said before, but at least I can feel original for thinking it up on my own. ;)
Huh. Does thee game not check for one of the artifacts? I was tabbed for a bit of this while it was running, but it looks like there was one missing on the display when you got the artifact of truth before fighting meta ridley.
Can someone explain the clip at 1:02:26? I can not seem to get it to work at all. Are you just supposed to keep boosting while holding forward or what?
I'm not entirely sure what parts exactly were the ones that gave you the most time saved, could you specify for the people not too familiar with speedruns like me? :B
Basically the entire game was broken. Every single power up was collected using methods that weren't meant to be possible. Important power ups that are normally required were skipped. Many areas were skipped such as the sunken pirate frigate. If you meant, what was improved since last time, the big thing I noticed that I hadn't seen before is that he escaped the walls of Chozo Ruins to grab the ice beam as the fourth item. That really surprised me.
Don't feel bad, I still have never beat the game haha (I don't think so anyway, it's been sooooo long since I played it), even after 40+ hours I believe I was at
Quick question...I know that some of these exploits have been patched, but have you considered speed running this game using the Wii U version? Since it runs off of the internal storage, there are literally no loading delays when you shoot doors, that could shave off a few minutes.
+Irixion as far as i know, the wiiu (and wii and the dolphin emulator) both simulate the GCN hardware environment to some degree. i'm currently playing metroid prime GC on dolphin and it runs fine but the loading times are the same as there are the same restrictions as the gamecube had in terms of cache and processing. so maybe it'll run a little smoother during some rare laggy situations on the wii u but i don't think it will improve the runs noticably. again, this is just what i know so far. =)
Defeats the purpose? The point of a speedrun is to beat the game in as little time as possible, so exploiting clipping bugs seems to be THE COMPLETE OPPOSITE of defeating the purpose.
I understand your point, that's part of the game so why not using it ? ^^ . (and there's a lot of work to find those). You should watch a speedrun 100% if you want to see everything. Ps: you are probably new in the "world of speedrun", try to watch some speedrun of games that you played A LOT. If you don't say "HOOOOOOO" at any time.. There's nothing we can do. : )
Good luck finding anyone running a game the intended way. What makes speed running interesting are these kind of things, nobody wants to see a let's play done fast. The Metroid series also was always about sequence breaking and going as fast as possible. I don't get people complaining about that.
Actually I dissapoint who do speedruns, are just a cheaters, but it is also admirable as you know find and use programming errors a game in their favor to finish it as fast
Adam Dexter ...What? That explanation makes no sense. What's actually going on is an oversight in the strafing and momentum handling code. When you lock on and press left or right and B, you strafe around the target, however when you let go of the lock while strafing it doesn't kill your momentum. This combined with the fact that the game doesn't put a cap on your sideways movement speed means that releasing the lock during a strafe sends you flying sideways extremely fast.
Adam Dexter um, no, what you said is entirely wrong and explains nothing, what izzy said is entirely right and explains basically everything the camera has nothing to do with scan dashing
