I'm beyond thrilled about the Metroid Prime 4: Beyond reveal trailer! I've been a nearly lifelong fan of Metroid, and I had the trailer song (what little we heard) stuck in my head all week, along with my personal, hummable extension of the song. I decided to finally take to Garageband and try my hand at extending the song. I was stuck with Garageband's most default sounds and no longer have access to Logic Pro, so my sound/sample library was hindered, and I added a simple drum track. My main focus was extending the melody of the song, rather than matching the sound of it exactly, doing a bit of my own spin. As such, think of this as a melody concept, rather than a highly produced piece. If I had access to my full sound/sample library and Logic Pro from years ago, I'd be able to push for something higher quality. That said, I'm happy with it as it is, and hope you enjoy it too.

This was an unexpected surprise! I really enjoyed your version! I've also been listening to some unofficial versions in anticipation of the official track. Really hyped about finally getting a new Prime soundtrack, and it kills me how they cut the music off at the end of the trailer just as it was getting into that great melody lol.

Hey! I was hoping you'd see this :) Definitely brought back some good memories of composing Keen music. Could probably work as an AR track haha. I've been without my music software for several years now (old software, new hardware, sad.) but it's nice to hop into Garageband sometimes. The trailer cutting off killed me too, but I have to say it was very heartening to hear that tune start up. Not counting remixes of classic tunes, we haven't had an original Metroid game with really high quality, catchy melodies since Prime 3 in 2007! Other M had good stuff but it was very orchestral and action movie-esque, Federation Force was similar but more Star Wars-y, and Samus Returns and Dread had some good remixes but the original tracks weren't very memorable. Hearing those few seconds of Prime 4's song at the end really got me hyped; so happy to know they're bringing it in the music department! And the game itself looks amazing!

@@TheTotalOverflow Yeah, I really get the impression that this track was actually composed by Kenji Yamamoto (or maybe Minako Hamamo). I don't hate the music in some of the recent entries, but I also agree that it's a far cry from the musical genius of the earlier games. Especially since I was mixed on the recent MercurySteam games, I'm really hoping Prime 4 feels like a return to glory for the series.

This is so good that part of me hopes that this exact tune is used in the full song, although unfortunately the chances of that are pretty slim. Still, this has been my favorite rendition out of all the concepts I've listened to!

What plugins or sound libraries did you use here? Anything the games used?

@@devourerinthemist for this song? Just the default GarageBand sounds, with a little bit of tweaking to a couple instruments. GarageBand gives the option to download a full sound library and you can download more from another app called stage manager (or something), but I didn’t do that for this one. I didn’t spend too long trying to match the original sounds, just some loose resemblances.
