Metroid Prime: Federation Force is Great Actually - How Not to Launch a Spinoff 

Federation Force, Hey! Pikmin, Dillon Dead-Heat Breakers, Code Name S.T.E.A.M and to a degree even Tri Force Heroes were all done dirty by poor reveals and random uninformed internet chatter. They're all bangers. Such a shame about their dismissal.

Yeah, couldn’t get into handheld gaming but I did like Pikmin 4. I wouldn’t mind a 2D version of the game.

The fanbase understand the word spinoff. But don't throw a spinoff of a franchise when people are starving for a main series game for years. They should've read the room.

Prime Pinball was a fantastic spinoff. This one was not

And I always hate when a company responsible for a beloved IP puts all their eggs in a broken basket, spend 5 years neglecting the fans because they just can't comprehend why the eggs fell down and splattered on the ground, spend this whole time talking about how that was their best basket ever and would love to continue using that basket going forward, and when they get their chance at redemption they come up with an ugly sweater and start begging you to like it! Fans DO UNDERSTAND the word "spin-off". The problem is that Federation Force came at a time Metroid seemed to be joining F-Zero in the graveyard for beloved Nintendo IPs they themselves have killed for being out of touch with the fans, and instead of coming out with a main line entry that corrects the mistakes of Other M, they came out with a spin-off that, at the time, seemed to have put the final nail on the coffin - Metroid is dead and from now on Nintendo will do whatever the hell it wants with the franchise completely disregarding the fans! Thankfully that was not the case and we ended up getting the announcement to Metroid Prime 4, Samus Returns and Metroid Dread! However, we only got those precisely because of fan backlash against Federation Force!

@@TwilightWolf032 I enjoy both F-Zero and Metroid but I know that these games aren't sellers. The Neglect happens because no one is buying....well not like Mario, Pokemon, Zelda etc.

Because Metroid is the story of Samus Aran, the now titular Metroid (in Chozo language, that means "Ultimate Warrior", and the Metroids were created to protect the universe against the threat of the X Parasites, at the same time that they adopted Samus and genetically modified her with Chozo DNA, making her and the Metroids essentially siblings, especially after Fusion when she was infused with Metroid DNA and became a Metroid herself). It's a tragic story about Samus losing her parents and homeland to the Space Pirates, then losing her adoptive father (Grey Voice) and her adoptive homeland of Zebes to the same threat again! And after she manages to defeat the Space Pirates in Zebes and chasing them all over the galaxy (Tallon IV, Aether and the Pirate Homeworld), she has to go back to Zebes and destroy the planet to put an end to their existence, destroying any hopes of retrieving her adoptive home world. She lost her best human friend in the process, watched her bounty hunter friends succumb to Phazon and die without being able to do anything to save them, committed genocide against her "siblings", unknowingly unleashed the X Parasites from their dormant state in SR-388, got infected by them in a simple escort mission and almost died in the process, was stripped of most of her powers and made to uncover a conspiracy by the Galactic Federation that she had trusted so far while being hunted down by dozens of fully powered clones of herself, and later on would find the threat of the X Parasites hadn't ended and sent on a mission to kill a Chozo warrior that had betrayed their race and is looking to extract the Chozo DNA from her and make an army of her clones! THAT DOES NOT LEND ITSELF TO A CUTESY SPIN-OFF WHERE YOU PLAY AS THE RED SHIRTS AND HAS TO DEFEAT SAMUS ARAN IN A SOCCER MATCH! Your analogy is wrong because Metroid is not Star Wars! Copying Republic Commando with a Metroid paint coat does not make it awesome, it detracts from the story!

​@TwilightWolf032 Okay, well it doesn't change the fact that it gets bland when you play as the same person, and one of the key organizations in the story doesn't even get their story told.

​@@trashaimgamer7822I'm sure he's referring to the people hating on the actual game itself without actually knowing anything about how it plays. No reason to hate on this so much after the franchise is in a healthy state now.

Samus returns started development in 2015, which means it was being made alongside Federation Force. FF just had the misfortune of coming out first.

The two titles don't even share producers. I think this was restarted for the 3DS (it's based off a cancelled DS game) in anticipation of Nintendo planning Metroid Prime 4 on the Switch. I guess Nintendo greenlit Tanabe to make a Metroid Prime 4 in like 2014 and while he was looking for a team for that game, he decided to get Federation Force as an interim game.

Wow there it's Just a Spinoff game.

@@robertkenny1201 I understand but I heard that the trailer got a whole lot of dislikes, Although I don’t know why.

As a Spinoff game it's fine, it just cameout when no proper Metroid game was in sight.
