Metroid Prime was released in November 2002 and is the first Metroid game to be 3D, in a first person perspective. Many nicely placed ledges and some glitches allow a vast amount of sequence breaking and speed running opportunities. There are several version differences between the NA and EU (PAL) versions that make the EU version slower and more difficult for speed running. The North American "Player's Choice" version is an even further butchered version. Source: SDA Game page.
Metroid Prime is the first of the three-part Prime storyline, which takes place between the original Metroid and Metroid II: Return of Samus. Like previous games in the series, Metroid Prime has a science fiction setting, in which players control the bounty hunter Samus Aran. The story follows Samus as she battles the Space Pirates and their biological experiments on the planet Tallon IV.
The game was a collaborative effort between Retro's staff in Austin, Texas and Japanese Nintendo employees, including producer Shigeru Miyamoto, who was the one who suggested the project after visiting Retro's headquarters in 2000. Despite initial backlash from fans due to the first-person perspective, the game was released to both universal acclaim and commercial success, selling more than a million units in North America alone. It not only won a number of Game of the Year awards, but it is also considered by many critics and gamers to be one of the greatest video games ever made and remains one of the highest-rated games on Metacritic. In 2009, an enhanced version was released for Wii as a standalone game in Japan and as part of Metroid Prime: Trilogy internationally. Source: Wikipedia.org
For those who stumble across these videos, a speed run is a video of a person or persons, completing a game as fast as possible using any means possible. This can include glitches, abusing in-game mechanics and skipping items or even playing events out of sequence.

It's so crazy seeing him speedrun this game, because even when he's not _breaking_ the game, he's still rushing through it, which to me is still breaking because it ruins the atmosphere. Interesting.

Just realized that not only did Trilogy fix all the tricks to access plasma without spider and grapple, but they even added a bendezium pile in front of the ice door! Same with the door leading to grapple.

The entire point of donation comments are to be read out loud to the stream. We tried our best to make sure that the donation comments were read at appropriate downtimes, AKA not during intense parts or serious time, and so on.

I've watched through a few of your videos recently and most have been great! One suggestion, having the completion time in the title defuses all the tension of wondering if it can be done by the estimated time. Your choice guys, keep up the good work.

Tap "A" immediately after you fire off a missile. Place the tip of your thumb over "Y" and the middle of your thumb over "A" that way you can rapid-fire the missiles on one finger.

On the gc version, if you system linked a gameboy advance with a metroid fusion game save file, ypu can unlock some extras including this suit from fusion, and it even changes when you get suit upgrades! It was pretty neat, I only got to set it up once though.

Ridley's first phase isn't immune to boost attacks, however, his second phase is. The boost does crazy amounts of damage before he becomes immune during the second phase.

Watching this speedrun so many years after its happening, but it is still one of my favourites from the GDQ. Awesome commentary from everyone on the couch in my opinion and it only gets beter with the small quarrels. In my opinion this was GDQ at its best; true, full of intigrity and packed of all of those "nerds" that we love to watch and many of us in some was are.

I think it's more for people on the livestream so they know approximately how long that section of the stream will be, so they can schedule accordingly. Don't like Metroid Prime? Well, come back in 2 hours or so and a new game will be up.

Very nice video! But I also think, that the game-screen is too small. Make the game-screen bigger and the cam-screen a little bit smaller please :-) By the way: Is there anywhere a list of dates, when the next run will start because I wanna donate! But i never know when these streams are running :-(

I'm pretty sure Miles has played this game slow and enjoyed every moment of it too. Numerous times. You don't get to the point where you can do this kinda speed running unless you *love* the game. Miles hasn't taken any of the fun out, by dissecting it and learning everything he can, he's put a lot more fun *in*. Who plays a game for 10 years unless they're having a blast?

dude i hate to be blunt, but you guys need to stop the comments being read at inappropriate times. This run was going for almost ten minutes before we got to hear a single word about what was going on. I know you guys want to read the comments, but that isnt what makes people donate, people donate because they want to not just see, but hear and understand what makes these awesome runs possible. I really hope you guys square this away.

Or donations can be read at any time there's downtime during the run? AKA elevators, item acquisition, and so on? Planning out every single little donation is honestly very unrealistic

You only get the extra scene if you get 100% and if your talking about how Samus takes off her helmet that depends on how fast you beat the game or how many items you collected.
