I find it best to use one only AFTER figuring out a song. Best to know where the fingers are going first, then locking it in with the metronome to get the right speed and timing. But I would not use one before that for a song or even an exercise. First just figure it out, then metronome as Part 2!

Liked and subscribed. I've been using a metronome for years. I do my drills to it - scales and arpeggios to keep consistent. Particularly handy when taking a tricky phrase from a song (case in point, the riff in Evil Has Landed by Queens Of The Stone Age), once I know the notes I'll play it over and over to a metronome and speed up a bit at a time.

My musical life in Metronomes: Hate the things. Tolerate the things. Realise they actual help and that it’s not the piano / bass teacher’s warped sense of humour. Get agitated when the metronome app is playing up and I can’t find the plastic one in and amongst the rest of my music stuff in top of the piano.

I have never used, i have one.. but i like to figure the song out with tabs etc. Then listen to the song and listen for the shift slides etc. Play it slow several times and speed up to song speed. But i do see how the nome could benefit me .. thanks for the vid..

Spot on video. That's how I learned to use the metronome playing ukulele. I'm doing the EBG technique course and I use the same method as charliedehn to practice the video 14 exercises. Congrats on number 300! Now make it searchable.....

A nice informative video on using a metranome, I agree that it is a very useful tool, but what I didn't like is your use of 1/4, 1/8, 1/16 notes, they are Crotchets, Quavers, Brive, Semi-brive, etc., not the modern American version, come on history is important
@ebassguitar
@ebassguitar Год назад
Thanks for the positive comments It’s a conscious choice to use the American because that’s where most of our students. I also think it’s much more logical…

@@OnTheOne. I thought we were talking American: Chips, surely.

@@Simon-C good point. As a Canadian I'd normally use 'chips' but I'm trying to ease or friend Rob into the concept of a world beyond Britain. So baby steps.

I have lived and worked in Albany, Singapore, China as well as all over Europe and for me chips will always come with fish and crisps with a dip, as I also found out in a chip shop in Montereal, real fish n chips. I have to day that I don't aways like the way Americans ignore history, music included@@OnTheOne.
