We didn’t score runs. Stop blaming managers or relief pitchers. That was the right call. We should’ve imposed our will offensively and put them away. You cannot give them a chance.

Two things can be true at the same time. We should have scored more runs. We also should have left in either Manaea, Garrett, or Stanek for 1 more inning. I say Stanek because of how great he has looked. To be in the position we were in, we had to put in our best and that was not Maton.

@@Falcons8455 Had we scored runs early, then maybe it would’ve been a 1,2,3 inning for Maton. A 2 run lead against this team isn’t safe even with Diaz, Stanek or Buto. We cannot afford to have it this close. Gotta hit them hard and early tomorrow and keep pounding. I’m confident they’ll get the job done. I absolutely refuse to say the season is over when we can leave it all out there tomorrow.

Excellent job Mendoza! You bring in a pitcher who is not even listed in the depth chart in a critical moment in the 8th inning to close out the series. At the very least use your best closer or keep Stanek in the 8th. This Mets team have been through an emotional and physical roller coaster ride just to make it into the playoffs as a wildcard. You had a chance to give this Mets team some rest and time to decompress for the next round of the playoffs. Now you give all the momentum back to the Brewers in a final game.

@@trustbelieve3481 Even Gary Cohen said it was the right call. But they failed to score runs but let’s blame the manager. Did you blame Mendoza when he pinch hit switching Winker for J.D. after the hit? Nope. But we couldn’t wait for J.D to strikeout to blame the manager then. Give me a break. A 2 run lead even with Diaz is not a safe lead against this team. They needed to score runs early and often. They’ll get it done tomorrow.

@@angelfmusicI get what you’re saying and yes, they left too many players stranded on base. But if I had to choose between a 31 year-old Maton who just pitch four out of the last five games and either keeping Stanek in or putting Diaz in, I’m going with the latter. That was bad bullpen management by Mendoza at this critical point. Maton is not that impressive to me to put him in that situation.

Cohen's comments are irrelevant. It's not blaming Mendoza. It's called holding him accountable since his job is to manage the team. You clearly lack the ability to think objectively and rationally. He even admitted in the postgame interview that Maton didin't pitch well and he still left him out there after he gave up a homerun to Chourio. Were you not paying attention to what happened next? Even Diaz said he was ready to go and not injured. Mendoza failed to manage this team at critical point in the game. This is a best-of-three game series. When you have an opportunity to close out a series, you utilize your best pitchers designated for those critical moments. The longer you extend a series, you are setting up your players to fail in the next round. Assuming they get passed the Brewers.

I was praying for Stanek to come out in 8th. He has looked amazing, and when I saw Maton I knew it was over. Should’ve been very obvious to keep Stanek in to bridge to Diaz. This loss is on coaches.

Maton doesn’t scare anybody. You should’ve went with instinct and left stanek in there or even put Diaz in against the top of the order. First bad decision this post season that unfortunately cost us.

What a terrible decision to put a struggling Matton in. The guy has been absolutely terrible. You used stanek twice in two days, why not use Buto again there, or even have Edwin go 6. Hell I would’ve even been happy to see stanek go a little longer. This was a crucial game lost by management

Too quick of a hook on Manaea when both Maton & Diaz was running on fumes. We have seen Garrett pitch more than 1 inning in the past he was rested, could have pushed him. Ultimately it was the offense not breaking the game open that caused it. If it was more than 1 run lead Mendy probably keeps Manaea in like he did with Severino.

Match-ups! More important IMO is whether a pitcher has it or not today. Stanek had it. Leave him in. What was it for Stanek - 11 pitches? The same mistake over and over. (Using Diaz for the 9th in Atlanta -- as risky as it seemed -- was based on his conversation with Diaz, as I understand it. A very different decision-making process.)

Amazing to me Francesa and the SNY team appear to not have a clue 1) must game 2) Manaea and Garrett could have gone longer 3) Stanek was electric yesterday and strong today. 4) Maton has been over used and ineffective of late, I wouldn’t have trusted Diaz tonite!! WHAT WERE MENDOZA ANS HEFNER WATCHING? The eye test! Mendoza lost it.. Hope we have an opportunity tomorrow…a lead😬

Can't blame Mendoza. Manaea just gave up a run in the 5th, already at 86 pitches. Can't feel comfortable pushing him to take the 6th after getting blown up by this same team last week - solid 5 and dive today. Garrett was good today, but gave up 4 to MIL on Saturday, so take the good inning and move on. Stanek was excellent, but hes only gone more than 1 inning twice this season and has a 6 ERA with the Mets. Maton has a 2.5 ERA with the Mets and 20 innings of sub 1-ERA in the playoffs. He's the guy, even if he doesnt throw 100. Velocity impacts old players like JD Martinez much more than a 20 year old phenom like Churio. At the end of the day, the Mets needed to leave less men on base. 2 walks and a hit against Payamps should yield a run. The team had chances spread out, and didn't get the big inning they needed. 8 hits today was more than the 7 yesterday. Welcome to baseball. Let's go get them tomorrow! LET'S GO METS!

@@Falcons8455 we had so many opportunities to score more runs that were not cashed in. marte stealing and no one cashing in. walking lindor, pete being flat, etc. a pitching matchup that looked good on paper that got a few off was not the problem. being 1 run up against that team going into the bullpen might as well be 1 run down. its the bats.

And in the playoffs you should try to push the players that are hot and avoid the ones slumping. I'd much prefer a hot pitcher in a worse matchup than slumping pitcher with good matchup. We could've won despite the miscues on offense
