Me, too - with my wife & family. The stands were literally rocking. It was fireworks night, which is why everyone stayed in what had been a Brave blowout. When Piazza stepped into the batters box, you knew Mulholland didn't have a chance. Pizza's home run sent Shea Stadium into pandemonium. What an awesome time to be a Met fan! 💫😁💫

My fun story with this game was that I was 15, on my way back from a vacation...and trapped in Miami International Airport for over 12 hours with delays and gate changes for our connecting flight. Ironically, we were coming back from somewhere that had a satellite that would've let us watch the game. But Headline News was on the airport TVs and back then was the main channel with a ticker of sports scores, so we ended up watching in real time as it changed from 'ATL - 8, NY - 1' all the way to 'ATL - 8, NY - 11' in what felt like the blink of an eye. Made the super late flight home a *hell* of a lot easier to tolerate.

I’m trying to remember why the Mets didn’t bring John Olerud back for the 2000 team. Why did we have Todd Zeile? Much as I love Todd, Olerud was the best first baseman the Mets had had since Keith Hernandez. Gold glove caliber and he was basically the same type of hitter.
@JaySirPrince
@JaySirPrince 3 года назад
John Olerud wanted to return home to Seattle where he was from. Mets battled with Seattle to keep him and made a similar offer but Seattle won. Mets would then pivot and sign Todd Zeille who had a good year in 2000 hitting 22 home runs. Zeille hit 400. in World series, if it weren't for Timo Perez's base running blunder, Zeille would've had a big RBI in Game 1. If only the ball was just a lil higher it would've been a home run. 99 Mets team was better than 00 team for sure but Zeille did his part.
@chocolatechow7697
@chocolatechow7697 2 года назад
@@JaySirPrince yes , yes and yes. Todd Zeille did more than okay in year 2000. If it is not John he is replacing, I would like him more. I am still wearing my #5 Olerud blue letters black jersey from time to time. Both of them are underappreciated in my mind.

damn that must have been an awesome time to watch this team. Piazza had a 12 game rbi streak and like 2 other players had a 9 and 11 game hitting streak or something like that they said. It deff wasnt a fluke for the mets to get to the series that year. If they faced anyone except the yankees i think they would have won because the experience the yankees had they basically used that alone as a weapon and i think the mets would have overcome that and taken the world series!
