Ah, pitchers swinging the bat. Such a shame the "modern" game left it behind, it was always such a charge in teh crowd when a pitcher could deliver with the bat.
Oh man, the nostalgia. I lived in Atlanta from 91-93 and was a huge Braves fan. Was only like 12 but I was obsessed with baseball. Still watched them until like 2002 thanks to TBS. Probably watched this game. The TBS openings though bring back memories.
some athletes play their chosen game in a distinctly artistic way. barry sanders is one quintessential example. maddux is another. he makes you understand why they call it “painting the corners”- the strike zone is his canvas, and opposing batters are his subjects.
Guess the umps were lazy and making calls on reputation. It they had youtube back then and people analyzing the calls like today, Maddux would not have had that kind of success. I remember Atlanta dropping like a rock after the umpires openly declared to make correct calls.
I was 10 years old when this game was played. We watched every Braves game on TBS with Joe Simpson, Pete Van Weren, Don Sutton and Skip Carey rotated radio and TV
Same here, except I was 12. Lived for a few years in Atlanta starting in 1991. I remember being mad at my Mom because she wouldn't let me get a tomahawk shaved in my head at Supercuts. It was some Braves special they did in Atlanta🤣All of the cool kids at school had it.
4:07 is a strike???? Don't say camera angles. Stop the video right before the catcher catches and see. This is ridiculous. 5:23 is also a strike??? Thus is way off even for 90's standards. Any MLB pitcher will get Cy Young with this kind of help. 7:05 is also a strike??? That pitch clipped the batters box. Are you kidding me? Why 31:42 is not a strike for the other pitcher????
