The Pivo has so much potential!! I wish I had more time to mess with it. When I do some backpacking videos this spring I intend to get more time with it. Should do the ‘walk by’ down the trail perfectly! Thanks!!

Thank you. Great information and extremely helpful. Jason, you've done all the hard work for us! I've been using the Mevo Plus for quite a while with an iPad. Recently added a Mevo start and the Multicam App. My plan is to operate the Pivo and Mevo from separate devices, i.e. Galaxy Note20+ and the iPad.

I noticed Pivo pushed an update last month to make the panning smoother. I haven’t had a chance to use it since but glad they’re constantly improving.

First and foremost I think the entire idea of combining these particular products together is genius ! I can’t help but to wonder how things would be if the Mevo Start was running the multi cam feature on autopilot as it transitions frames while the Pivo tracked 360 degree body movements. I’m sure to accomplish this you would have to sync the Mevo to a different phone/ or tablet while your original setup is running the Pivo application on your silver iPhone.

Hello Jason. Good stuff. I have been trying to video full lax games for the team. I have a 20’ tripod and tried using a GoPro 8 I had sitting around. Footage was not bad but looking to see if mevo would be better. I’d rather not pan. Need full field view ideally. Any suggestions? I would love to broadcast the games for families out of town as well. Thanks

I gave a more detailed response on your other comment. I agree panning is extra (equipment and personnel) but to get a full field shot you’d be pretty far away from the players. Thank you!

Jason, brilliant idea! However, the footage you shot is super jerky. When I watch other Pivo reviews the camera seemed to turn very smoothly and the footage was not jerky at all. I do not have a Mevo. Is this a problem that is inherent in the Mevo system? Or is it a consequence of trying to run both apps through your camera at the same time? I was thinking of using your idea with my GoPro instead of the Mevo. Kudos on a very clever idea and thank you for sharing it.

The Pivo app has the ability to track at different speeds and I had it on the fastest; may be why it was jerky. Thanks for the comment!!

I don’t have experience with trying to get it to track one of many similar uniforms. If it were tracking a referee it might automate the process of recording your match. Just have to try it. Good luck!!

Hi Jason - would this setup work with Mevo Multicam, if I only used the Pivo on one camera (in conjunction with a dedicated iPhone)? Rest of system working via slate ax and dedicated iPad Pro, with a net gear hotspot…. TIA! Bob

The Pivo will have no negative effect on your Multicam setup. It will do the job of allowing panning (or tracking if close enough) for the camera to which it is attached.

The Ulanzi ST-02S is a good phone holder and you’ll need a 1/4 20 cold shoe mount (smallrig makes a swivel one that’s nice).

@@JasonHoffmanYT yes in short. Three years ago I tried a few pan and tilts with the Plus and never happy with them. I’m the original streaming for dummies. Before I ask to buy it I’d like to have a strong understanding. Amazon has $80 off on the silver right now. Very tempted.

I can put one together right after Christmas. Amazon has returns until January 31 on a lot of items right now. You might see if that’s the case for the Pivo.

The Dual Tripod Mount listed in the video subscription has everything you would need to mount the Start and a phone to the Pivo.

Sure, the Pivo/smartphone combo does the tracking in this setup so using Multicam would work as well as anything. Funny you would comment on this video, I’ll be reviewing the Pivo Max tomorrow.

Just a generic phone mount with a cold shoe slot on top. The piece between the phone mount and Mevo has cold shoe on bottom and 1/4 20 on top. Came with the phone mount. Thanks!

@@genoseurope Love the questions! The YoloBox will take the Mevo in webcam mode via the usb port or with a UVC to HDMI adapter. I’m guessing Atem would be similar.

@@genoseurope I’m not sure what it stands for but you can search UVC to HDMI converter and you’ll see what I mean. Will take a usb input and make an HDMI output. The key to using one with Mevo is to put the camera in webcam mode first.

Mevo and Pivo don’t ‘talk to’ each other. Need the phone to handle communication between each.

I'm new to Mevo. I'm the videographer for the girls high school basketball team and due to Covid all games will be shown on Facebook live this year. I've used two Ipad's( held in a Iographer case) for several years using Hudl software(Scouting) and Videon(for better quality) to keep on hard drive. I plan on using the Mevo attached to the Iographer case along with Rode microphone. Do you have any suggestions? I realize this is a lot of questions but you seem to know more than anyone out there.

Have you used the Iographer mounted to a tripod/stand or handheld? Considering FB Live and recording you’ll want to set your recording to as high a quality as you are used to in the Mevo app. Then stream at whatever bitrate your internet connection will allow. I’m guessing you have one of RODE’s shotgun mics? Sounds like a good place to start.

To stay locked on a single person or tracking speed?

@@JasonHoffmanYT Basketball is too fast paced to stay locked on a single person. I have the faster tracking silver pivo and manually it works well enough to keep up. Remote is opposite because it is designed to be used when you are looking at the camera so you have to get to that, but much smoother than manually panning. Will try some more by getting a little closer to the action as well.

@@ryanbaxter12 I wonder if we set the Pivo to keep the object being tracked on the right side of the screen then tracked the ref that stayed high when the teams were to our left. That one would be at the baseline when the teams were at our right so the action would still be on screen. Thanks for the info!!

@@JasonHoffmanYT I've got a ref shirt so maybe I'll jump on the court at some point and try it out. To me it seems like the issue is that when you get too far away then there is an issue. I was probably 20 feet away from the side line when I attempted. Maybe if I get closer it could work better.
