Take a tour of our apartment in Guanajuato City, Mexico and learn about just how cheap living can be in central Mexico. We are able to live for half the price compared to the US without any major sacrifices. You'll also learn some useful Spanish apartment vocabulary.
Internet, a cleaning lady, water, gas, electricity, and a washer and dryer are all included in our rent. We also share our grocery expenses and what it normally costs us to go out to eat here.

Thank you both. you do a fine job. My two boys and I moved to guadalajara from SoCal. I can assume you rent a 'funished' apt. in a what is probably a tourist town. The view is spectacular and so is the city. In Guadalajara I rent a three bed, two bath for 200 usd. unfurn. plus utilities. ...not touristy, but close to downtown. In city center I would pay double. peace

Yes, this apartment was already furnished. Guanajuato is relatively touristy. Not like Puerto Vallarta. Mostly Mexican tourists visit. It's starting to get on the map a bit with gringos too though. Airbnb is the way to go (in most countries). I rather pay more through Airbnb and have all incidentals included, than having to worry about more bills. I had some hellish experiences with Air BnB. From being double booked and left hanging. To renting from a domestic violence victim who then rented out her blood soaked mattress and never cleaned the apartment. I discovered the bloody mattress after striping the bed for the next guest, so she would have to wash the sheets. So I'm done with Air BnB. Sent corporate pics of the filthy place with the blood soaked mattress and got zero response from them.

I live in a ghetto bedroom duplex an hour west of St. Louis Missouri. I pay $475 for just the roof over my head and nothing else is included. And that is a GREAT deal for around here as apartments are all charging $550 or more for ghetto one bedroom apartments with nothing included. The next town over starts at $700 for a 1 bedroom trailer or $800 for their worst one bedroom apartments.

Great apartment! Just came from Jerry Brown Travels. We're in Cancun and don't have any utilities included but our rent is about the same. We are doing a long-term lease which may be why, since it makes more sense for them to include utilities in a shorter term lease. But we are still able to live for a 3rd of the price of what we were spending in Denver, Colorado!

¡Hola! It really depends on your standard of living. My wife and I can get by on $650 USD /mo very comfortably in Guanajuato. We don’t have a healthcare plan, but I’d say even if you eat out a lot you can live on $800/mo for both of you plus healthcare. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching! -Jim

Charles Moore a good meal for two here at a local restaurant is around $10-15. Cell phone we pay as we need it, but usually less than $30/mo for both of us.

Used your link for the Airbnb, found a nice place to stay!! :) Going to San Jose Del Cabo in a few months. Any suggestions for that area would be greatly appreciated as far as food, excursions, and beaches! Gracias!

I was just in Cabo San Lucas. I would recommend the ATV tours. I went thru a company called Cactus tours in Migriño, bcs. I spent like $60-80 dollars for the ATV tour and they pick you up and drop you off at your hotel(depending on your location). You spend like two hours riding ATVs thru mountains, dunes and pacific beaches(my favorite). Travel hack they say that you have to leave your phone or camera behind in a storage locker but id recommend you bring it along with you to take pictures by the beach otherwise you will end up having to purchase the pictures that the company photographers take of you along the way.

My question is what would it cost per month for a live in personal assistant to take care of laundry and dishes and push your wheel chair (yes I'm in one)? Also how handicap assessable/friendly is it? Like have been looking at such channels for a long time in various parts of the world and almost no one touches on it besides assisted living homes (which I don't want) or nursing homes (which is also a NO) and at 36 years old, not wanting that for sure. If can't find live in what would it cost per hour or shift?

Andrew, great question and I am hopeful that you gain some direction from Jim and May. I can't offer specifics to your question, but some encouragement: my experience with those in Latin America--especially the women--is that you will experience far more warmth than you might expect to encounter in the United States. I base this on countless trips to the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Costa Rica, and Nicaragua. I am sorry to learn of the challenges before you, but if I were in your shoes, I would continue to pursue Central America/Mexico. Even though those countries do not have the ADA, I am sure there is far greater hospitality than in the U.S. One final thought: consider the countries or regions which might be a bit more developed. Costa Rica and Panama come to mind. The infrastructure may be more suitable for you there. In contrast, Santo Domingo would be a very, very challenging area to navigate if one has a physical disability--possible, but difficult.

I think AirBnb also helps you from being cheated or scammed. Thanks for the video.

how much is the average house there, and if u have a house to u have to pay the taxes on the property even after I pay the house off, in some country after u pay the house off u don't have to pay property taxes, I lived in America and u pay property all your life if u own the home!

How much does it cost to get aqua delivered?

This apartment had filtered water. Usually, a 20L filtered water jug costs about 30-40 pesos. That’s about $1.50-2 USD.

Hi, Jonny! Yes, everyone's standard of living is different, but I'd say you could live really well in Mexico on $3k/mo. We are happy living on much less than that and there's two of us. Thanks for watching! -Jim

Whoa! Prices have really skyrocketed in the last 10 years, and you aren't even living somewhere trendy like Guadalajara or Jalisco.
