I go to mexican markets for tajin - salt with chili and lime seasoning. Cut up a mango and squeeze a lime wedge over it then sprinkle some tajin on top. It's so good!
You're fucking stupid, I'm Mexican and no public place is off limits to me if I want to be there, I shop a t wholefoods, costco and eat at Romano's Maccarroni, I don't give a fuck if some idiot thinks I don't belong there.
I love Mexican Supermarkets, I'm Mexican and I'm white as you can see, people think I'm "gringo" unless I speak up but it doesn't bother me. I love Mexican food. they don't judge me either way
Thank you. As a white guy living in California I started shopping where Hispanics shopped thinking these ladies knew where the best prices were. It exposed me to unfamiliar brands/products. Now I have Mexican Hawthorne (Tecajotas?)growing in my yard & harvest Prickly Pears from my pasture. I encourage everyone to follow your lead & sense of adventure.
John Kramer "Mexican" is a nationality or place where you are from, you can be a Mexican living in the US so you are not American just a Mexican visiting or staying. Your nationality does not change as you travel to other countries or even if you stay on those place for long periods of times.
Those are Chicano supermarkets, not Mexican supermarkets. Here in Mexico supermarkets don't look like "Mexican supermarkets" from the U.S. We don't have donkey figures and sombreros all around decorating the inside of the supermarkets here and we also don't have loud, ugly music playing inside the supermarkets. I don't know why Hispanics in the U.S. are that way. I went some time ago to the U.S. and visited one of those supermarkets and the decoration inside the place was so ridiculous! They had like sombreros and donkey figures decorating the inside of the store and also the outside was painted with so many striking colors... It was too colorful. That's not the way supermarkets in Mexico look like. I don't know why Hispanics in the U.S. develop that kind of culture. Supermarkets in Mexico look like regular American supermarkets, like Walmart, Kroger's, Alberstons etc. I think those U.S. "Mexican supermarkets" look more like what we call tianguis here in Mexico, which is basically kind of like a flea market.
They can't be more Mexican than real Mexican supermarkets from Mexico... If you have ever been to a Mexican supermarket here in Mexico, you would know the way those "Mexican supermarkets" from the U.S. look is in no way an accurate reflection of Mexican culture in any way. You aren't holding tight to anything but an ugly stereotype created by Hollywood about Mexican culture and way of living. The kind of culture Hispanics develop in the U.S. just reinforces that erroneous and ugly stereotype that people from the U.S. has about Mexican culture and way of living. That's not the way things are here in Mexico. You Hispanics in the U.S. need to stop making us look that way by promoting that kind of image and making people think that Mexico has the same kind of culture you people are developing in the U.S.
Dora Rigel. I'm not sure where you're from but most Mexicans who migrated to the US come from impoverished agricultural towns in Mexico. Ive shopped in various local stores in Mexican towns like the ones I've described and they look just like the ones in the video. The colorful exteriors and everything, minus the donkeys and hats. Although to be fair I haven't seen any of those in Mexican American stores in the US either. I've also shopped in bigger cities in Mexico and they look like the "American" groceries in the US. The people here in the US must not have lived in the part of Mexico you're from.
Dora Rigel. I also understand where you're coming from since I've had family members come from small isolated towns in Mexico who are appalled at how some tacky music only drunk men would listen too is considered over here in the US the epitome of Mexican music. Even her little town was more globalized than some Mexican Americans she met. Since then I've come to realize that a lot of those "tacky" people here are often from regions of Mexico where patriotism is more ingrained in their culture(like southerners in the US). On top of that, they miss their country of origin and often times they can never go back, so those aspects of Mexican culture is what they have left of their own heritage. Mexico is a lot more globalized now and their culture is constantly evolving, especially in the big cities, so I can understand why you don't like that most Americans don't know that. But that isn't Mexican Americans job to depict what Mexico looks like to Hollywood and Americans. Blame the people with those misconceptions instead.
Dora Rigel Cmon buddy, you are getting off the subject she is explaining it to a certain audience, didn't you see the beginning? Oh, y no seas buey, I can almost assure you it wasnt a hispanic americans decision on the sombreros and donkeys. Its called marketing, thats what all the bright colors are for. Anyways who gives a crap, Ill still go in the store. Ive been in the stores in Mexico, I love it when the ladies are giving samples of tequila or other drinks. Also been to the ones that are in small towns, if you didnt know youd mistake it for someones house. Stop misinforming. a tianguis is like an outdoor swapmeet. Just relax and enjoy the video.
Rollo Larson there is more crimes committed in the USA by people that are born here...your comment simply uncovers your own racism towards Mexicans....
the mexican or latin supermarket are the best , you will find the best products, vegetables , fruits and a lot more... best meats , you can't go wrong... I recommend to all people that are not latino to feel free to get in to the mexican super market... latinos loves all races ... everybody is welcome..
+abe nakamura I love Japanese and any oriental and I'm Mexican I wish to have an Asian wife . So fuck you! at least we did not drop nuclear weapons on your so-call friendship with U.s.
I recomend the Gansitos cold, put them in the freezer the cover will be crispy the strawberry jelly cold and it's sooo good... About real sugar Mexican Coke-cola is better cause of the real Azucar de Caña....
Even the walmarts have fresh tortilla manufacture and way better baking. Tons of fresh food; buffet of fresh prepared food... Much better than American WalMart. Either way, I go to the small local markets in Minnesota, Jalisco or any other place I've been. Usually much better! I still buy my hot dogs at walmart though
I am Colombian and I go to indian, mexican, arab, asian, supermarkets. I always buy strange stuff. Sadly we dont have many colombians in America so we dont have colombian supermarkets that much.
maloff magaloff I live in Australia and we have a lot of Colombians and like 3 mexicans Haha we have like 2 Latin food stores but a fuck load of Latin clubs and salsa dance classes bring taught by Aussies :p
As a Gringo who happened to marry a Mexican I LOVE Mexican markets. Also love jewish and middle eastern markets. If you're a white person living in the US and don't welcome other cultures into your life you may have some issues. Keep yourself open!
I am Mexican and let me tell you something. You did an amazing job with this video to help other people educate about our culture. I love that you integrated some interviews to support the story. Thank you so much for making this video and I really hope that there were more people like you that are open minded and not afraid to try new things.
If you have a sweet tooth for Mexican stuff ,next time you are in a Mexican market this is what I would recommend that you try : Pinguinos marinela ,Bimboletes ,Bimbo pound cake ,Submarinos marinela , Pulparindo ,Mazapan ,Paleta payaso ,Pelon pelo rico, Paleta de rico mango ,Duvalin ,Cajeta ,Carlos V chocolate. Trust me I'm 100% Mexican.
01david28 Perhaps you should google it first ,to see which is the one I'm talking about ,and you are correct in Mexico is called "negrito bimbo" but here they must've change the name to avoid stereotyping black people
Fernando Dorame Romero omgsh really. I live in dallas tx we have Mexicans supermarkets EVERYWHERE. like a lot. especially in Fort Worth Texas. That's so weird. I grew up here but I'm originally from Mexico. Estas tiendas me hacen sentirme como que estoy en México
Hahaha, Idk about that brother, probably you have better quality of some states in México but in states like mine (Sonora) we have some tortillas de harina and steaks that you can not find anywhere else feel free to come visit Hermosillo and visit the beatiful beach right next to the desert with the best tacos de asada of the world ;)
Fernando Dórame él de arriba está mintiendo 😂 el bolillo, el queso, la carne, las tortillas que producen en los estados unidos, nada que ver con lo que se da en México.
If you ever come to Guadalajara you need to try the Torta Ahogada, it can only be made here because the bread used can only be baked at exactly 5577.428 feet of atitude relative to the sea level.
you remind me of America before 911, or certainly 10 years ago at least , Americans were so much more open, and open minded to trying "foreign " things especially Mexican foods. Now they want to build a wall.
Rollo Larson you are the only thing wrong with beautiful America. I noticed you are the only one spewing your filth, you are the only one i noticed talking bad on here. On this comment and a few others. You are obviously not getting likes for a reason get a clue.
oh yeah sure, those mexicans putting mcdonalds and starbucks and stupid propagandistik hollywood movies all over the world always trying to shove their ideals and fckn army in every conflict on the world, lol
ebrightb It's the perfect combination, specially with "tacos al pastor". In Mexico is very common to find places at night to eat tacos, in this places, you can find Coke in glass bottles. If you don't believe me, come to Mexico City, it would be a pleasure for me to take you to this kind of places. The advantage is that the food is cheap and delicious. ;) Greetings!
Tejocotes is actually not a spanish word, it's only mexican from Nahuatl language (the language of the Aztecan people) they use a bunch of words like that and we, the spanish speakers (except most of the ones commenting in this video) often ask them about their meaning...
yeah, I know... Chocolate it's original from Mexico it was called Xocolatl (xocolia = to make bitter and Atl = Water ) thank you for reminding me that one, though!
4:15 "Tecojotes" jajajajajajajaja only a mexican will understand the joke... ok I'll explain it, the name is tejocote (J and C are changed), but as you maybe know "albur" is a word play, normally with sexual sense. The wrong word "Tecojote" includes "Te cojo" that means "I fuck you". I know is a mistake in the video and is not important, but I had to comment it XD.
Awesome video. And people shouldn't be afraid to walk into a Mexican market we won't hurt you instead we will welcome you.. We are all brothers and sisters in God's eyes....
Galilea Hernandez any person that does not attack religious ideas from all possible angles is an immoral being giving the amount of wars religion has created.
NELSON J No, that just means they're not arguing with people from what they believe in. You just said "attack" okay, chill out! No one is forcing religious beliefs on you. And if they ever do, you can tell them to stop. Also, "amount of wars religion has created" Everything is causing war haha. Religion has been going on for centuries, if you don't believe in a god..okay, great! Don't. What ever you feel comfortable with. However, telling people "there is no god" is disrespectful, because 99.9% of the time, they're not going to believe you. Just have respect, please.
Galilea Hernandez offense is not given but taken and i criticized OP' s ideas not himself. Is also disrespectful for me to hear the word God being tossed around as the ultimate goodness when is obviously the opposite of goodness. "everything is causing war" sure but religion has more to do than any other thing and is quite possible that they are the initial cause. if you or the OP doesn't like my comment, you have the right to report it, but I will not bend over because people should keep their religious nonsense to themselves, otherwise I wouldn't have said anything.
Great job! please continue to encourage others to try other cultures. I love seeing non-hispanic people in our markets, it's so cool to see people get out of their comfort zones and try something new! I go and check out other ethnic markets (Phillipino, Korean, Indian, etc.) near me and find some really fun things to try. Keep up the good work!
It's people like you that truly make this country great. If only more people were like you we could make this country even greater. Thanks for making this video. I salute you!
Alek Zander but chamilto is made by Nestlé, and Yakult is an actually Japanese-Mexican company, and it's actually a health drink, at least the Yakult version is.
Im one of those light colored tan Hispanics and I can go anywhere without people questioning why im there :) I assumed that's the biggest reason white people feel uncomfortable going into those stores. Shame because theres some tasty stuff they're missing out on.
I am mexican. both 'latino' and 'hispanic' were created by white people to put us in a category. but if they have to put a label on me i prefer latino or mexican
I'm Mexican and I think this girl is awesome, love her enthusiasm and her willing to give our cultural a try. love her Spanish pronunciation for the products.
That was no yogurth btw haha, that drink is something that has Lactobacillus wich are good for our digestive system, is like a plus for it, and i gotta admit, the first time i tried them i didn`t like it eatier, like the third time of giving it a try i actually enjoy it, until this day is the same.
chdreturns glad you like em, imagine we threaten to Beat the shit out of you or kill you because you're going to our restaurants, yeah dude some Caucasians get outta hand, but glad you like em dude
when I immigrated to this country thats the way I approached everything to understand American culture, Kudos to this young woman on having an open mind to dicern new flavors and culture.
I totally agree, Mexican supermarkets are awesome! And the people are so friendly its almost as amazing as going to Mexico, although obviously going to Mexico is a million times better, its a truly wonderful experience the food the music the people I love it
It saddens me that people feel so uncomfortable around other human beings that are just slightly different from them. As you've said, we have so much to learn from one another. I wish I had Mexican supermarkets near me! I live in Upstate New York, and while we have a large variety of authentic Puerto Rican restaurants and empanada shops, there are no exclusively hispanic grocery stores anywhere near where I live. Instead, we have the grocery giant Wegmans that sells a wide variety of hispanic dry goods and produce along with the typical "stuff white people want". This serves as a great opprotunity for cultural intermingling and trying new things without stepping too far out of the comfort zone. I just wish I had a place to try more Mexican and South American sweets! At least I'm blessed with a huge selection of Chinese grocery stores. Those are so much fun to visit. The language barrier takes nothing away from the experience. Thank you for making this video. I hope it has inspired (and continues to inspire) people to overcome their apprehensions and submerse themselves in other cultures.
This is the first foreign video about mexican food that is accurate. There are a few things I've never heard of but most of the things I did know. I loved that you didn't only went there and speculated, you also researched. Great video
What an awesome video! I live in Mexico and you have inspired me to find foreign supermarkets in my city so I can to try new things and experience new cultures through their supermarkets.
I've been trying some of the Mexican foods at my local grocery store every time I go but I'm running out of options so I looked to see where the nearest Mexican supermarket was. I live close to one so I'm go an try! Thank you for this video!
You're so accepting. I LOVE that you're not racist at all. I personally find it offensive when white people go into my neighborhood's markets and try to humble us or degrade us because our products are different. I like how open minded you are and yes eventhough we have different products we also have MANY of the same things white/caucasians consume.
***** Most of them are jobs other people don't want to do, such as dishwasher and housekeeping especially if the pay is minimum wage. There are a lot if jobs out there but a lot of them are seen as "too demanding" for some people and refuse to perform those jobs. so don't come here with that BS that illegals take all the jobs you are just too lazy to work in those jobs.
+Patrick Parcivel you are free to go to the fields is a lot of work their picking up fruits let's see how long you last probably 20 minutes you dumb fuck
+Patrick Parcivel then you don't want to work!! you just talking out of your ass and what native Americans? my cousin is married with one and she doesn't complains she can find a job easy don't blame those hard worker people just because you are lazy don't blame them for you lazy ass
loved your video. I'm Mexican and frequent Asian supermarkets all the time, love it!!!... btw the guy you interviewed, some people may think that he was annoyed by the interview but I can tell he was super nervous lol, but he stuck through it!
I once had my culinary instructor join me to pick up some ingredients. Afterwards she told me she felt judged, like people thought she didn't belong or was seen as a criminal. I then told her that's how I always feel when I enter most normal stores/supermarkets.
Living in Canada is hard for a Mexican.. They don't sell so many things and even when you find a store that sells foreign food chances are they'll have very little products. But at least they carry Valentina.. so that's nice
Im hispanic my grandma was from Mexico. They are well behave and will try there best to make you accept them. Ive run into many people that hate mexicans and still ive respected them. I live in El Paso Tx the population of hispanics is very high here. And we welcome those that want to get to know us or about our culture. I quess it's like any race there good people and bad people. But we all should try to get to know each other. I admire that you are willing to try a part of our culture and im glad they are treating you good.
I am newly married to a wonderful Spanish man!! To say the, least the foods I've been introduced to thus far is different but so delicious. You're right learning a new culture is very excoting!!
I loved your video! 💗 Thanks to open up to our culture. I've never been on the States but you doing this 10 min video about not being afraid to try Mexican products, and through that discovering part of another culture, is so uplifting. Awesome reflection at the end too! 😀 Btw try some other candies, like "Mazapán" and "Paleta payaso" and a fruit called "Guanábana" eat it unprocessed.
I really enjoyed this. watching rockaletas and gansitos so far away form home is awesome; tostadas charras somehow present in my daily meals and watching them on other country is unbeleivable. Thanks for this. really.
damn she dropped some knowledge i aint ever thought about but it's very true: "America is a salad bowl, not a melting pot, because it is very important to people to retain their cultural identity...but we are all still Americans, and more importantly still people." that was beautifully said thank you!
Francisco Chavez Choco Roles are similar to chocolate fudge rolls, fashioned with pineapple jelly and cream. They're best served cold. Talking of which: how can we forget about Pingüinos? Those little choco muffins with a fine layer of chocolate glaze, filled with cream. They need to sell those too!
thank you very much!!! but god has nothing to do with this, with your hate, with my pain, god left us alone to do his holy job and to ban people, your god hate me i mean he hate my skin color and love your blood on your hands
"Gansito" a good snack but try taste other "Marinela" products "Principe" or "Pingüinos" the Mexican "Coca" (Coca-Cola) is very delicious its made with Sugar instead of Fructose in american Coke DON´T FORGET.... Salsa Maga and enjoy over popcorn, potato chips, jicama, Frituras, cecina snack or Fruits For Washing clothes try mexican detergent "Foca" or "Ariel" are more powerfull that american detergent... try it!!
Foca is shit for poor ass Mexicans, Ariel is alright but Ace is the way to go and who buys salsa maga anymore? that shit is old asf valentina is the way to go
I love your open mind! I share your love for exploring different cultures. Food and music breaks barriers. The first time I went into sea food city it blew my mind. I'm Mexican so I'm just used to seeing American and Mexican markets
+Rollo Larson Of course, dumb white wingers have to make up "stats". Why can't whites accept that they're going to become a minority and there's nothing can do about it? Other than go on random videos just to vent about it?
As a mexican i can say i visit chinese, italian, polish and just about any other supermarkets i can find and not once i felt uncomfortable there, same thing for restaurants, i love visiting different places and experimenting with different types of food, that's the beauty of these multicultural countries, and those who don't do that are missing out. Gotta dmit that african food has been one of the less enjoyable experiences but highly enjoyed the pig in blood from phillipines.
