Thursday marks Cinco de Mayo, the anniversary of Mexico's pivotal victory of France at the Battle of Puebla. The annual celebration is marked with parties, drinking, dancing and more. But, people in Southwest Detroit say the history behind the unofficial holiday often gets lost in the mix, and many say the celebrations are both a blessing and a curse.

Wouldnt have made a world of difference if France joined the CSA, they would have still been defeated.

@Palepride Worldwide I agree, Irish immigrants didn't have much choice in the matter. I still think even if France joined, the end would have been the same except longer and extremely higher death tolls. Wonder if Mexico would have assisted the union if this were the case 🤔

It isn't a Holiday! St Patrick's Day is a holiday, Cinco de Mayo is NOT! It is political NOT Religious. Holiday is an abriviation of Holly Day. A Holiday is a religious celebration therefore Cinco De Mayo is not a Holiday, it is a political celebration. St Patrick's Day is a Holiday as it celebrates Catholicism in Ireland.
