For a long time I dreamed of going to Mexico with my Aliner trailer, however couldn't find anyone who was ready to take the challenge with me. So I went there solo, and am so glad I did. Don't miss the ending, as things didn't go exactly as planned!

My husband and I have spent the last 10 winters in Mexico and have enjoyed every minute of it. I have never spent 1 minute afraid, but have spent many hours getting to know a kind and gentle people. You can camp on beaches where you won't see any other people for days. You can also go to small villages and spend your evenings in the central plaza where the villagers gather to socialize. You can go to La Manzanilla on Tenecatita Bay where there is a nice RV campground just north of town and right next to the lagoon with the crocodiles (there is a fence). I highly recommend that in February you go to the Monarch Butterfly Festival 100 km northwest of Mexico City for a visit to one of the reserves where millions of wintering monarch butterflies may be seen. You can also get a taste of the history and culture of Mexico at Tenochtitlán and the numerous other Aztec ruins or the museums in downtown Mexico City. You can go to Mazatlan's Carnival in March to enjoy music, a beautiful parade and the best fireworks show that I have ever seen. Can you tell that I love Mexico? Most of the people that say that Mexico is dangerous have never been there. They believe the stories that other people that have never been there tell. They then tell the scary stories themselves and so it goes and goes. Just think -- does the fact that Chicago has an extremely high murder rate mean that you can't take your kids to Disneyland? Apply the same logic to Mexico. There is a certain type of person that thinks they can go to Mexico to do drugs, have illicit sex and behave in a very sketchy way. The scary stories are about them. If the nightlife is what you are after, go to Las Vegas.
@joannmorford905
@joannmorford905 6 лет назад
Yes, that is exactly my point. Skipping a trip to Disneyland because somebody got shot in Chicago would be illogical. Skipping a trip to Mazatlan because someone got shot in Cancun would be equally illogical. I will be the first to admit that there are some places in Mexico that are dangerous to go to but there are also thousands of places that are safe

I probably spend 1 year total in Mexico in the last 15 years ( Pacific and Caribe side as well as inland) and i NEVER felt insecure. People are low profil and not arrogant at all. No, i never been to Mexico city. My scary experience: San Pedro Sula in Honduras and Colon Panama as well as Miami CITY ( back in the 90's).

What? You don't think the U.S. is corrupt? A few bucks to a corrupt Mexican Cop is mild to what can happen in the U.S. The Mexican is only trying to feed his family but the American wants to buy a Lamborghini.

I have driven solo to Cabo and also solo down the continent all the way to Puerto Vallarta, and often just to Rocky Point. And, just like you I have been shaken down for speeding! Cost me 500 Pesos in Sinaloa, "Yes, Senior, you can "pay me" instead of the station." But I was treated well and found the people wonderful.

Despite that frustrating "exit fee", I really envied you for the experience. A "house" at the beach, sun is shining, not too hot, fishing boats and seagulls, rush of the sea and even some fireworks display. Really cool.

As usual, you are upbeat and humorous! Your experience confirms that I will not drive back to Mexico, though. When I was young, I took my VW Beetle across the border for an adventure and was nearly hit by a huge sign that fell over inches in front of me as I was walking out of a parking lot. I am notorious for getting lost, not seeing the instructions, and generally looking like a dumb, vulnerable tourist. Plus, I have nice toys that I would want to take when I travel (bicycle, kayak) and I believe I would definitely be a target. There was nothing about that place that made me want to risk a trip like that again. Thanks for taking me there to remind me that I'm not missing anything.

Not a racket, a way of life. The ATV's told him you were a rich American. So does a new fancy truck. Look destitute and your bargaining stance is much improved. Speak good spanish and you will do even better. Or just offer $50 and move on. Its no time to be righteous.

Thanks for taking us along Slim. First off, thank you for showing me so much about Aliners. I purchased my first RV (Aliner) last fall and you were instrumental in that! My wife and I have traveled to Mexico several times. It is an incredible country with amazing people. You do have to be positive, adaptive to situations and smart; which you are all of those clearly. Forget all these negative people. What was your end result? You went to Mexico, enjoyed yourself and returned. All is well. I've traveled all over the U.S. and parts of Canada have been treated great by some people and horrible by others. JUST LIKE MEXICO. Heck, I have been robbed on the highway by US police for $585 before. Been roughed up at the Canadian border for not following directions precisely. I've seen all sorts of abuse here in the States. Traveling anywhere has risks. Sitting around being scared and living in a bubble has it's own risks as well. Thanks again for all the great videos and live your dream!

Having surfed around Mex for years, the Mexican people are warm, friendly and genuine. I love Mexico. Everyone gets 'robbed' by the locals or local cops or federales occasionally. It's part of the scene. It helps immensely to have a rudimentary understanding of the Spanish language. If you seem like you've been there before, often times you will be left with only a 'warning'.... ha ha.

Just subscribed and catching up. Love the life philosophy of your channel. Your traffic police encounter remined me of a few years ago when I was in Romania in a hire car. I got stopped for doing 71 Kph. I complained thinking I was only 1 Kph over the limit. I was wrong, the limit had just changed from 70 to 40 Kph and I missed the sign. The policeman offered that I could pay in the next town or now. I paid 'now' but only had a large bill. The policeman walked back towards his squad car to get change. Just then a van went past at a high speed. The policeman ran back to me and said, in perfect English, "Quick, follow me as fast as you like". The police car then sped off to catch the van. So I was being invited to join a police chase and drive as fast as I liked so that the policeman could give me change for my speeding fine. Brilliant - I love the logic. As it happened, my passengers (daughter and sister) refused to let me join in the car chase, so I went to the nearest fuel station to get some gasoline. Whilst I was filling up, the squad car re-appeared and scrunched up with the cars nose to nose. The policeman jumped out and handed me a fistful of small notes, then drove off. I often wonder what the man in the kiosk thought was going on. If you ever get a chance to camp in Europe, I recommend Romania. Beautiful and completely bonkers.

Boy I have never seen so many comments on one of your videos. To those who see the glass as half empty , they will only see the downside. For those who see the glass as half full, they will see all of the benefits. When I retired I rode my motorcycle from Denver to Alaska and had an issue at the Border crossing going into Canada from Glacier Nat Park and was told to go inside and talk to them, however coming back to the States through BC I was thanked for visiting and told to come back soon. So hey people; don't let border crossings get to you. When I am sitting on my rocking chair in a few years I do not want to be saying " Gee I wish that I would have gone there or done that.

My wife and I drove our 24 foot camper down the Baja Peninsula in 2015. It was a fine trip south. We left Lapas by ferry to mainland Mexico . Had an equally nice trip north. Even where helped out by two mexican police when lost in a large town on a Saturday night. They escorted us right to the campground we knew about. Seven weeks in Mexico and no bad experiences at all.

He was doing 65 mph down the side roads, and I was trying to keep up. When we arrived at the station, I mentioned the hypocrisy of the situation. Arresting me for doing 45, but him and I doing 65 down the side roads what were posted at 30 mph. His answer was "was you speedin again?". I gave him the $75 find and he let me go. and off he went to buy his date a nice $75 meal. It never showed up on my record. Don't assume these things only happen in other countries.

nice channel, nice video. Been there at Sandy Beach, stayed at almost all resorts there but never at campground. Never had problem. Like your attitude. Thanks to you, planing on taking my popup trailer in April 2019 to Rocky Point

I've been watching your videos for a while as I was searching for a light camper over the last couple years. Ill be picking up my new Aliner in a couple weeks. On my agenda is going to Mexico, especially Baja. I've been to Mexico several times by plane and want to camp on the beaches. Usually leaving the States is no problem. It's coming back in that can get annoying with US customs, not only Mexico but Canada as well. For those that are afraid to go to Mexico, Great, more space for me. Most of the major cities in the States have more crime and corruption. I've been hassled by vendors in DC, had problems in Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York, LA, etc, but I chalk it up to experience and go back. Have no desire to go to Chicago at all and don't relish driving through it if I take the northern route west. I do have one question though. My Aliner is coming with Hydraulic pistons, like whats used to open a car lift gate. Have you considered installing those on your Aliner? You can basically lift the roof with one hand. Keep up the great videos!

Hi Vic, excellent points, thanks for sharing. I did consider gas springs however the cost was a deterrant for me. I think Aliner should provide them in all models and abandon the silly coiled spring concept. Enjoy your travels and your new trailer! Slim

I used to live in Tucson, only went to Puerto Peñasco (Rocky Point) once, yes, it's fantastic there, loved every minute of my stay there. I'll be going back when I return to Arizona (I'm working in Missouri now, just gonna wait a few years to retirement then head back, I'll be van living or something like that, I'm considering an ALiner too)

Great video. Thanks for sharing. Despite the horrific stories (and there are a lot of them), myself and my friends have always enjoyed our times in Mexico. I've always been wary, but never afraid. Exercising prudence is simply a wise thing to do in a foreign country. And as for the $60, even if it wasn't the police, call it charity.

Nice video! I love going to Puerto Peñasco and other places in Mexico. I have gone the last four years on a motorcycle from Southern California to Puerto Peñasco every November and stay in one of the resorts down the road from your campground! Lots of Californians and Arizonans go every year without any problems. I have never had problems with the policia there; but if you do have a problem, my advice is to offer a little less and do not lose any sleep about it.

Thanks HB, glad you took it the way I had hoped. It is a beautiful place full of good people and nothing that happened to me would change that.

Glad we didn't loose you to some jail in Mexico. You are braver than me, I am sure there are plenty of safe places in Mexico to go but because of what happened to you and others I will not go there. Not bad , just irritating. Love your vids because they are so uplifting. Please keep it up. It is sad because I too belive that Mexico could make so much more more money from tourists if they felt safe when they went there. Truly a beautiful country though.
