I've really been enjoying this series. Good work. I have a question about the last precept covered though. It looks as if the fencer in green is striking out of measure. It looks as if the cut could hit a hand but not the body. His cut follows through it's originally intended path. Our red fencer takes a sideways step as he parries. Is the voiding of the strike by stepping off-line the primary defense in that movement? Would this be as successful if the green fencer was not striking out of measure?
Great video as always! How do you think the first Regel relates to what is said in the longsword section on versetzen? At first glance they seemed similar to me but they seem to contradict each other a bit aswell - In the longsword he says that the Oberhau takes everything - but here he says to use the oberhau to parry cuts from below and middle and Zorn to take everything from above. P.S. The new Red fencing mask looks badass!
in the dusack it says the Oberhauw takes everything, too, but in dusack he goes a little more in detail and more or less says that "with proper stepping" and with the strong of the blade (and timing), the other cuts take even the oberhauw. Classic Meyer, giving a hard and fast rule only to instantly break it, haha
Question: I was taught that Meyer advocates throwing our bodyweight to the point of impact when you are cutting from above. Is this right? Because CMIIW, I see that the footwork is seldom used to throw your bodyweight behind your cut.
community center! the next video will be shot in a church though. We lost our last space (owners sold it) and we've bounced around a while, which is why it's taken so long to get this one out.
Yeah, we picked a handful of them for our sword in one hand class. We've also got a pair of synthetics and some steel ones lying around. The wooden models are good for everything including sparring but have a limited life span. one actually broke during recording.
