You know what has a great sense of space? A 300€ pair of powered monitors.... Anyone who buys a headphone for "spaciousness" is, in my opinion, stupid.

@@oluvsgadgets that's so interesting. All reviews I've read and watched on Meze say the treble is much less sibilant and extended and analytical sounding than most other flagship headphones in that price range. Most even say the Meze is a pretty "dark" headphone. You didn't find this at all?

@@soulpath1 I have the headphones myself and will say it *just* pushes harsh in parts of the treble for certain recordings but its by no means the first thing I'd notice or mention. The hyped/slightly flabby midbass in the stock tuning is much more of an issue. With EQ, it sounds up there with the LCD3-LCD4. In saying that, the stock tuning and the mids in particular sound incredible for vocals most of the time.

I watched the video too and what always surprises me is how he still also praises the HD600s. At one point I was with oluv on that mainstream people hype up literally everything to the moon even though they're sometimes pretty bad. And I still think that for a lot of people. But for a lot of people I think its just how different the ear is. No one has the same definition of a balanced sound. Be it how their ear canal is shaped and thus how their own frequency response is or how its just what years of preference shaped our brain to interpet the sound. I think most of his claims are still valid, I agree with most of what he sais. Altough I strongly disagree with the Mezes here, they're way too harsh for my taste and the mids are too recessed. I still think oluv has the best "balanced" perception of sound - most likely due to his interest in music production and it being part of his life for so long and maybe just his ears that have adapted to a more "balanced" standard of audio. Oluvs recommendations are 95% of what I like too and he - and that sets him apart from the others - is super honest which I like a lot. Wades ears may have adapted to sound differently maybe due to his job as a drummer. Its just best to not rely on a single source to base your decision.

@@derSkedda Dankpods, as much as I respect him, caters more to the entertaining side of things. Guys like Oluv and Alan Ross are the go-to’s for actual product analysis.

That was too short with the PU pads, but I thought they did not sound so much off-balance bright.

@@Berkanann to be honest I would not buy a pair of headphones that cost $ 3000 anyway. Their case probably costs about what I pay for my headphones, or more. In the last time I bought some super-cheapo headphones and then upgraded them with better drivers. I also experimented with different pads. I also noticed that angling them tends to make for a crispier bass, better voices, and less sharp trebles.

@@Berkanann So they must be good. The last one I did myself is a Siindoo H1 for about $ 7, upgraded with a pair of carbon membrane drivers by Poyatu for about $ 18, plus new ear pads for about $ 7. The drivers are sold for Sony WH-1000XM2/3 replacement. And that is pretty much how it sounds, only with more treble.

Tuning is only a quarter of the battle, you can’t do anything for sound stage (except for mid/side 3D psychoacoustic processing), separation and harmonic distortion

At 3000 bucks a headphone cannot just have potential quality. It must have actual quality. If not, it is a rip-off, pure and simple. The Empyrean costs 10 time the price of Sennheiser HD600. At that price it cannot be just better. It must be completely at another level, unequivocally.

Just buy a headphone that is confortable and have good soundstage and eq them to your liking. Try AutoEQ or Sonarworks, if it doesn't sound good just create a custom eq

@@rickross6368 Ah okay. Yeah i was about to buy a pair of used Elex, but hearing all these stories of it breaking i didnt, especially when you can't send them back. I live in Europe btw.

I have also auditioned the Meze before. On a Chord Hugo TT2 it sounded warmer than the Elex that I own. P.S. I listened to the Meze without EQ during the audition

True, amps make a huge difference on this headphone, I have extensive experience with it

@@oluvsgadgets Well, if you think you can hear serious differences between 3000 dollar headphones, 300 dollar headphones and in the same time praise 30 dollar earphones and bluetooth speakers with your old ears as reference, why would it be so ridiculous to accept that many audiophiles notice differences between certain combinations of headphones with different amps and/or dacs? Because your ears are perfect? Maybe Meze should already sell it with the “correct” Amp? What do you think would the “right” amp change on these? Do you use an amp as an EQ? Why not simply adding some EQ then? Please explain your audiophile wisdom!

@@oluvsgadgets you of all people should know there never is a 'correct amp' personal preference is the main factor here, most people considering the Meze over here listen to about 3 to 5 different amps and I really cannot say which one is the most popular because it really differs. The right amp will change quite a lot, some make it sound a lot warmer and smoother whilst others make it more clinical. The thing I notice the most improvement in between amps dynamics. Personally I don't use EQ, don't really believe in it regarding high-end gear, helps great with low to mid range stuff but on high-end gear it really should be a last resort. But the again all personal preference, some people like to dial back the treble just a touch whilst some other (mainly elderly in my experience) will up the treble a bit.

nope, I can enjoy music way more with my 70€ Earfun. way smoother sounding, I wouldn't have had the guts to boost treble as much.

I do not think that you can say a passive headphone manufacturer did,on purpose , boost some frequency bands, as they tend to do on bluetooth headphones where they can

Price has nothing to say about sound quality. You can have a 100$ headphone sound better than a 5000$ one.

@UC6Zc_nVAIbTfL3qPvQdFWzQ The Meze does sound bigger in the sense of more weighty i.e. more bass/gravitas/authority but also more intimate/closed in (possibly due to reflections from the cup being less well damped). Listening on hd600 via FiiO E11 ..anyway personally marginally prefer the sound of the recording of the Focal overall tonality wise even if the Meze were to have a bigger soundstage. Still, both sound pretty good :-)

The Meze also has much better imaging, detail retrieval, build and comfort

@@vincenthusvh Imaging actually is better on the meze but I think the detail retrival is more less the same in this sound demo, its just the upper treble peaks thats making those extra details. I bet if the meze is equed to the same tuning to elex those extra details wouldnt be more prominent.

They are colored. They do not sound natural. They could be great if the tuning was a bit smoother
