The fact that Meze ACTUALLY SAW your previous video as opposed to just sending these out to anyone who discusses headphones on the internet is something special.
Reminds me of the good ole days when Meze did just sent their cans out to anyone vaguely shaped like a reviewer and also were accused of having their products manufactured by a Chinese oem I ain't saying that's what they're doing now, current year Meze seem pretty legit. But that was just them from the before-times
Yes they are, i was in one of the few HiFi stores left in my city a while back that sells almost only really high tier & expensive stuff and they had several headphones on display to try on a couch, these things are awesome, makes you feel like you have been listening to music through a cord in a can until you try headphones in these price brackets of 3k usd and above. But to be honest, i think it takes a lot of time to adjust & train ur ear to even pick up the nuances they offer, sadly way outside of my budget, gonna stay with my TIN T4 until then .

Even with my cheap earbuds, holy shit those sound soooo good. I thought the Sennheiser sounded amazing, and then all of a sudden it sounded like I was at a jazz concert LIVE. Can't imagine how amazing they'd sound IRL. Not an audiophile, but I love your attitude. If I ever become a millionaire imma buy these haha.
Well I have them and honestly they arent quite what you'd expect. Its the law of diminishing returns. Any good cheap headset might instantly blow you away and each time you take the next step it gets smaller and smaller and smaller till you have to strain for that feeling again. Its also the audio recording that will make that difference. Go for KPH30i when you can get a discount around $20. Then just picture it sounding 10% better in general and you have your emyperean. Few exceptions are there on things the emyperean can do but not that much. The only thing that probably will meet your hype is the look and build quality. Thats my 2 cents on it. Have it for over 2 years now
@@indexclone8130 You forgot the "getting used to them" factor. Try not using them for a couple months and then go back to them...then notice the differences. (I don't say that what you've already said isn't true), but usually people compare high end stuff to "lesser" stuff from memory which isn't the best way to compare things. It's usually the case that coming from high end to lesser things shows more of a difference than the other way around, is what I'm getting at...otherwise what you said is perfectly valid.
@@indexclone8130 that’s the basis of addiction as well. You get addicted to cigarettes because the first time (or maybe the second time) you feel a lot of euphoria from it. So you keep doing it again and again and again. Each time you’re looking for that feeling of intense happiness. But each time you do it. It starts to fade away. And it becomes more about regret.
I’m not an audiophile, I’m not even interested in this hobby, but this guy is just so damn likable I can’t not watch these videos. Keep up the good work!
I think most of his audience own one pair of reasonably decent headphones and then let him have fun with the rest, it doesn't take much to enjoy music, but it can take a lot if you want it to.
you know its a turning point for all of life when dankpods throws something around the ears and compares it to the Sennheiser and the Sennheiser sounds as crunchy as uncooked noodles
honestly, I almost barf listening to the bass of the Empyreans, and I'm listening through a $3 dirty bud (yes, *a* , I only have the right one that for some reason plays the sounds on the left side)
when I heard the Meze’s i was listening on my speakers for the first time in a Dank vid, so I immediately came over to my phone (how i normally watch) and I was still shocked at how much better they are
I hope you get as much enjoyment from these as this reviewer did. I'm curious to hear your opinions. For me its mostly collecting dust and used as a standard for measuring and judging other headphones rather than enjoyment which is the whole reason i too saved up to purchase these
@@GoombaNL ppl probably gonna laugh and maybe thats something to be said on music being subjective, but my KPH30is signature and sound are just about where I like it. Something light and fun to listen to

What a world we live in where we get these eccentric personalities to talk about obscure high-end tech to us, and give a rating purely by virtue of their context.
yes. i think everyone who watches this guy also watches LPL. also, I think like 90% of us don't actually know what either of them are talking about. its just: "I like your funny words, magic man"

I'm not an audiophile by any means, but I am a huge proponent of buying something good, buying it once and having it forever. I'm putting these on my wishlist
Wow.. I just discovered your channel and this is the 2nd video of your i watched. Thank you, for the great content and I can't wait to go on a bingewatch of all your videos! Looks like I've got a new addition to my bucket list too! Such a beautiful creation indeed :')
@@Bayofthe91st from what I've gathered they still want to make high end audiophile gear, just not the super cheap consumer stuff they were also making. I don't think any Sennheiser products will change at all, though I do think Sennheiser will start to make more exotic solutions under their own brand. Idk, let's see.
Yeh, it's absolutely baffling how I found out about a RO company from someone that lives tens of thousands of km away. I can't even pose as an audiophile but I'm definitely making an informed decision after watching Wade's videos. Forget about the latest greatest smartphone. I wanna sell my liver for a pair of Meze.

Those high end comparisons legitimately gave me body tingles to the clear no reverb. Also to your point about it being genuinely build by their native developer. Sub earned from me. Hell yeah.
The HD600's sound good every time you use them as a starting point, but his time, wow. The Meze cans sounded BEAUTIFUL. After hearing them, the Sennheiser set almost sounded like it was playing over the phone in comparison.
Probably because he has the excitement of a 5 year old 🤣. Like instead of "i own really expensive headphones 😎", it's more like "OMG OMG OMG THESE ARE SO COOOOOL 😲"
I just found this channel and the levels of audio abstraction from listening to headphones, through a 3dio, with (haha 280s) is hilarious to me. And the super interesting part is that the differences are still significant enough to translate, despite my being certain that both the compared headsets are better than the 280s. The meze's seem insane, lol
I want to cry "Shill!", but I've watched enough to know that if a 3k$ set of cans walked in and struggled, he'd call it out. Congrats to Meze for making a work of art that works.
I know the FEoaS aren't the most accurate thing in the world, but... the Empyreans made the Six Hundos sound tinny and cold, and that shocked me more than anything.
@@jordananderson2728 had the exact same thought. the hd600s sounded almost bad in comparison. i’m lowkey pissed i watched this video because now i want a pair of 5k headphones
@@joshk. I was not watching but rather listening to the video, and when the comparison time came in and the Meze's started playing I thought for a second "wait, is he giving us a direct line capture of the tune as a reference, or do they really sound this way?"
as someone who's always been super into music and sound quality, while i can't afford to buy these it's awesome to see what can be done with time and dedication on something like a pair of overears
I bought my Meze Classic 99's as my first audiophile pair on recommendation from Dankpods, great purchase. I was ecstatic when I saw a video about the empyrean and my new goal is to eventually own a pair of these
I brought the Meze Neo ones. They are the same as the classics, just without the walnut and $100 cheaper. They were my first audiophile purchase and they are so good. Most comfortable and greatest sounding headphones I've ever had. Highly recommend.
one of my favorite things is whenever dank needs a driver to explain how standard headphones work, he doesnt just keep one in the hoard, he has to sacrifice a pair of dirty headphones each time XD
Improbable, because the chance your teammates has shit mic is infinitely bigger than you have supreme audio system. You can't make it better by having expensive equipment :) Maybe in the future where AI will filter out and improve it on the fly?
I actually got the classic 99s (wood obviously!) And they do have a great warm sound and they are actually very comfortable!!! I'm getting into high end listening and I'm glad I'm starting with a set of 99s. Thank you dankpods for the heads up regarding meze
It’s nuts to actually be able to hear something that sounds better than hd600s, since I at least can tell quite well the difference in EQs and whatnot with the recording, but it sounds so much clearer and better even with just the ear microphones
I know dank could just go to a store and buy these, but it feels like he's showing them to us like he just robbed a truck or something. Fucking love that energy.

General audio quality has majorly spiked in the recent ages. The quality stared raising in 2018 to the point almost all good cheap consumer stuff starts to sounds great. The chinese market in AMP/DACs has turned all the old crappy expensive stuff on it's head and starts to sound and perform alot better. People finally start to believe in measurements! Schiit made their products much better after being measured bad. I can't stress this enough, there are so many super transparent Amplifiers and DACs now its amazing. There are tons of super good headphones on the market today, harman has showed the world what good sounds and the world realized. You don't even have to spend alot to get really good sound. If you wanna learn about audio and audio measurements, i recommend you visit a site named "Audio Science Review" or ASR for short. Once you fall down the rabbit hole, these reviewers will just appear as fun personalities whose videos to look but not good audio advice. Idk how he finds those headphones better than the HD600s, as those empyreans sound way too warm the tuning is bad, those would turn probably amazing with some EQ. But for the price it's not worth it. The dude likes wacky stuff anyway.
We, romanians, get so exicted when a youtuber talks about us because people usually don't talk about Romania and most of the time we are seen as thieves or gypsies...
Honestly, I love the fact that he started off as just a small iPod channel and now he gets sent thousand pound headphones from the manufacturer, I love your work man, don’t stop
I'm listening with ATH m50x so nothing special for headphones but hearing the direct comparison of the 650s to the meze I was amazed to what I was hearing through a RU-vid video I was blown away by the recording of the meze empyrean I can't imagine what the audio through the actual headphones is like. This video has made me realize I haven't even come close to hearing what actual quality audio sounds like. Thank you I have much to explore and after watching your beginner audiophile video I know a proper D.A.C / external amp is where to start
Tonality wise i like those sennheisers alot more. But that planar bass is amazing, only sad thing that dosen't boost in 2-4k region upwards making it sound muddy and closed in.
Normally the HurrDurr Six Hungos sound so much better than every other headphones on the freakish ears. But the Empyreans absolutely blew them out of the water!
@@ianhermansson7191 fair enough, but if I'm being fair, it's one of the first pairs of headphones I've seen that sound better than the hd600's on the stand. I've been here for not too long, but I know this is a massive achievement nonetheless.
@@CL4K. there are plenty of headphones that might sound better than the hd600 in your opinion. Dank just hasn’t really covered headphones at a similar price point as the hd600.But at the end of the day it’s all subjective. headphones don’t sound better, just different
I have the note 10 + and they have a noticeable different when hearing the headphone tests as they have a left and right sound to it not just play sound
Then you need an equalizer! Boost 3.8khz up 8 db with a gentle rolloff. The Mezes have great bass characteristics (which adds much "body" to the tone) but an 8 db spike at 3.8KHz is really significant; the human ear is very sensitive to 2-5 KHz so 8dB there is a big deal (for the worst if you ask me; i prefer my response flat)
I put off watching this for so long because I knew I'd never be able to afford them, but hearing again about the Meze company in general has made me more sure that I want to at least get the 99 Neos some day. Definitely a company that deserves to be supported, when so many other larger ones are slacking off.
The fact that these headphones on the freakish ears on a stand literally sound like it’s just the raw recording dubbed over it really paints the picture for how clear and detailed they truly are. I wish I could try this piece of art.

owning multiple pairs of headphones, huh-duh- six-hundge-O’s included, working as an audio engineer, i can assure you that that static you hear is due to the mic inside the thingy, so it’s just that who’s distorting. i tried the mezes, they’re absolute gold, but the 600s don’t have static
@@datutturugang666 Yeah I get that, it's just the weird audio from the mic really stands out when the video swaps back to the first pair. Hard to notice the buzz without that drastic difference
Hopefully these don't go out of production anytime soon, because I want a pair (thanks to your review lol, the fact that the soundstage is also vertical is mindblowing), but won't be able to afford them for the next decade lol

Obviously not these headphones for me, but I can already tell I'll be able to choose better headphones from your channel lol
During the audio comparison with the Sennheisers, I was literaly BLOWN AWAY. I was blown away over the sound of headphones recorded with fake ears, with the audio processed by RU-vid, and then all that retransmitted through my own average pair of headphones. I am still in shock minutes later.
I had to pause the video when he started recording the ears on a stand because when the star of this episode started playing on them I was like "wait... this just sounds like Im playing the music file directly" and that kinda says a lot about how good these sound
I mean... the sound came from my HyperX Cloud II... but i don't think i've ever heard this little distortion in one of those tests. I remember always being disappointed by the noise over the actual track. There was none this time. What a trip.
@@tyrosine87 the distortion is basically the exact same on both of those headphones except for Bass that's different but it's still at a very low level. I don't know what you are hearing or are you just hearing placebo?

I think it has more to do with the shape of the cans themselves. the huh dur's are open backs after all.
@@austinarnold4460 the mezes are also open back. But no, the headphone sounds veiled in comparison to the HD600. Only massive thing being the difference in bass repreduction. Those headphones don't have the diffuse field/harman rise in 2.5k to 6k making the headphones sound super muddy and closed in, making the mezes sound like they have less detail and overall tonality is not good. the Audeze tuning has not been popular check the research Harman has done, they had alot of headphones on the test, including LCD-2 (a headphone i have tried and listened to) which is close in the tuning to the Empyrean, they weren't popular and harman found that the harman target was audio wise the best.
I've been binging your content so much I had a dream that I had to take care of Frank and you had other snakes including one that shot fire out of its mouth and it was purple.
Damn, these are beautiful! I am searching for beautiful everyday headphones… but probably these are not about that! Checking their website… lol Cheers from Japan!
Honestly, these sound pretty terrible! considering their price. They lack treble, and mids are way worse than the hd600's. They do have pretty good bass extension, but that's about it. Treble is pretty good but just dark on the darker end, which is not accurate. Btw: The meze empyrean soundstage wise is absolutely amazing! Way better than the hd600's.
