Man I just subbed. I love the garage and the loft concept. Nothing like having your own shop and doing things your way.

Your shop is looking awesome. I have started building 7 shops and never got to finish one yet. Always had to move on to new job, sold the place, or some other kind of circumstance. I now am working on building a shop on my back porch. It's 14' x 32'. I call it my porch shop.... Say that a few times fast... I have a 2 car garage in the front of the house but it has all my machines and my Corvette so there is no room to do anything. Some day I will buy me a place that has a big nice shop and I will not have to worry about it again...

Thanks, I appreciate it ! Dang, that sucks but I totally understand how life happens with that kind of stuff. Hopefully, your porch shop gives you a nice work area until you can do something more . Thanks again for the sub and comments!

Thank you for sharing all this information! I got a couple questions: On the site work when you started...how level was that ground? 15 dump truck loads of rock or more to build up? How deep is the rock in the far corner? Does the rock depth vary? On the mezzanine...reason you preferred osb over sheet rock? Definitely interested in the long version of cost breakdown and the concrete sealer info. Thank you!!

Thanks for watching! It was about a 4' drop to the far back right corner. So yes, they cleared all the vegetation off and got down to undisturbed soil, then built it up with 3" recycled concrete. I did the osb just because that's what I was doing downstairs on the bottom 8' and figured it would be a little tuffer then drywall and eaiser to hang stuff on . Inside the office and bathroom will be all drywall though just to give a nicer finished look . OK cool I have been thinking about doing that longer version soon just to help better answer questions people have had . As for the concrete sealer I used is Concrete Sealers USA ps100. Thanks again for watching and glad the info was helpful!

Hey ken, I noticed that in that middle section of your metal building, the Cross wires that they use to square the building are going either behind or through the middle of the horizontal girt closest to the ground. It's a great idea because your framing can now fit between the columns perfectly. Did you ask them to design it that way, or was that a modification that you did knowing you were going to frame it?
@kenschopshop
@kenschopshop 8 месяцев назад
Hey Dan , thanks for watching! I put the kit up the way they designed it I honestly hadn't given it thought to where the cables went before we had put the building up . When we first installed the cables they went to the outside of the wall girts but the holes at the endes where they attracted were centered in the beam and I thought it odd that they went to the outside of the girt but the girts didn't have holes in the for the cables to pass through and the prints didn't have a detail saying to do so . But when I went to frame the wood walls I drilled /cut an oval hole in the girts to pass the cables through so they would be behind my framing and actually inline on the front and rear walls . On the 2 side walls thought I wish I had known or thought about it before I closed everything up and welded a wing to the back of the beam so I could move those cables from the center of the beams to behind them because right now they are about 4" infront of my wood walls on the 2 side walls (60' walls ) I have thought about removing them but they say they give the building the wind load ratings but I'd think with all my wood framing that I have probably stiffened the building up enough to remove them but not ready to take that chance just yet lol.

Nice creative use of typically dead space, in particular in a residential garage setting. Some other RU-vidrs who have built enclosed mezzanines; Kelly’s Country Life, Red Poppy Ranch, Maple Mountain Ranch. The last two are under construction now. Maple Mountain skim coated his plywood with drywall mud. Great way to cheaply fill plywood voids and then paint.

Thanks, I appreciate it ! Yeah, I had thought about skimming mine also and then just decided to caulk all the seams and nail holes and then painted it with 3 coats of exterior semi gloss white paint . It's mostly done now, but I haven't finished editing the videos yet, but hopefully, I will have them posted soon . And yeah, I hate having wasted space, so I wanted to make the most put of what I have . Thanks again for the kind words and support. I appreciate it and keep an eye out for the finished mezzanine, imo I think it's coming out nice !

Looking good! The ceiling fans were trippy through the time lapse, they would speed up then stop lol.

Thanks ! Haha I didn't notice that but I'll have to look back to see . I was wondering if they were going to cause issues in video but I was more focused on the shadows they cast lol

The floor is 10' so the downstairs area is like 9'2" the stairs are 4' wide, the open area is 16' x11'8 and the office is 12x11'8 and tge bathroom is 6x8 and the closet is 4x6 . The storage area about the office is 12x10 and 4' tall at the front and 18" in the back . Hope this helps and if you want to know anything else let me know I'd be happy to answer if I can

You build is nice how tall is your building from floor to eves and from floor to roof peek ?
@kenschopshop
@kenschopshop Год назад
Thank! Outside of building is 40x60x16 but the inside clear span measurements from the plans are .. floor to eves 14' 8-5/8" and floor to peek is 20' 10" . And the clear span between the center columns is 36' 10 -1/2" but from my wood framed wall to wall its 38' 8" and front to back would be 58' 8" . Hope that makes sense

What type of lights do you have for your overhead lights?
@kenschopshop
@kenschopshop Год назад
They are the hyperlite 150w 5000k hero series led lights for the round lights the 8' led straps lights we put above and below the mezzanine I'd have to look up to see what they were because they were something my electrician gave me a few years ago but I'm sure I have the info saved somewhere but they were pretty expensive when I looked them up when he gave them too me . My only complaint with them is they are a 4000k color so they don't match the high bays but they are still nice .
@QHVFX
@QHVFX Год назад
No worries on the under lights, I was interested in the round one for now.
@kenschopshop

@QHVFX ok sounds good, thanks for watching! And for what it's worth I'm very happy with the lights and would definitely buy them again if I had to . I did also put them on dimmers that I also got from hyperlite

Thanks Ken my building is going to be 20x30 x22 high did you have any issues with permitting? If I can ask what area do you live in . I'M not finding good info on line either. I'm have trouble finding good contractors who actually want to work I think I might wind up doing it all myself as well .
@kenschopshop
@kenschopshop Год назад
Oh wow that's tall ! Building wise no , once I got my engineered drawings for the building and foundation from maverick the county passed them the next day . My only issue was because I was disturbing more the 2400sqft of dirt environmental took an extra 3 weeks to approve my permit . But I will say before deciding to go with the red iron I was having trouble getting company's to be willing to supply stamped drawings that my county would accept. I'm in spotsylvania va

Thanks wow we're like neighbors I live in MD I'm about 30 min north of DC I didn't realize how tall my building was until I took my laser tape measure and checked its height against other tall structures that I went into and realized how tall it was .
@kenschopshop
@kenschopshop Год назад
@Sam Mason too funny I grew up in Southern md in mechanicsville and moved to va about 12 years ago now but I actually work in DC. Yeah 22 is tall but gives you plenty of room for a second floor or anything tall if needed so that will be nice

Hey bother take my advice stop using music when you speak when you get monetize and some of those songs gets copyrighted you give lost all the revenue I learn the hard way most of my old and must watched videos gets copyrighted and was free to use tracks imagine that I got like 60 videos hit by that and lost hundreds no one take the time ti tell me this but I do it to you cuss I love your shop and I cam tell this videos eventually gone get 100 of thousands views due all the draw attention they are getting and recommended by you tube algorithm If you want to use make sure they are from RU-vid itself audio libraries on RU-vid studio or pay epidemic subscription
@kenschopshop
@kenschopshop Год назад
Thanks for the heads up and info , yeah I worried that might be an issue later on but I have only used music from the RU-vid studio in hopes that they won't allow what they gave access to be copyrighted later on . Thanks again for the info and support. I greatly appreciate it !
