This man had passed away 2 months ago, and we learnt it yesterday. It is felt worser you know. I was happy by listening the freestyle and reading the lyrics a week ago. But now I feel too strange. RIP MF & JJ Doom, King Geedorah, Viktor Vaughn.
You can really hear the transition between Zeb Luv X and DOOM in this. not as dark as DOOM gets, but has the youthfulness of X still. Def one of the greatest!
@@rayvonfoley6287 Wu Tang Clan Killa Beez - Cappadonna "97 Mentality" produced by Rza. That beat will hypnotize you into pressing repeat over and over. Canibus did a sick freestyle with that beat too!
Hip hop comin from an underground college radio station from over 20 years ago still smashes any professionally done studio hip pop album released today.
Ofcourse I’m not saying they were nothing, they were the gatekeepers who broke most of the legends out their . I personally have atleast one shoebox full of tapes I recorded off their shows. But what I’m saying is despite being no budget, anything that came out of their studio absolutely wrecks any garbage put out today.
@@evilskwerl yeah you're totally right, as far as budget they were on the college radio level. I apologize, I didn't mean for my comment to come off so negative. They did so much for the advancement of hip hop it's incredible.
@@kazzykaioken8873 Exactly fam. I'm a grown man from Houston Texas but I listened RAP. In 1987 I saw Public Enemy, EPMD and the Original Geto Boys (originally New York rappers before JPrince signed Face, Willie and Bushwick Bill from Bushwick Brooklyn) so I saw the growth my entire life but when you grow up you realize these guys are human just like you and I. Tupac and Biggie's deaths changed everything and it showed us the streets ain't nothing to play out and street activity should be separated from the music. I've been listening to Doom lately and he was definitely an unsung Mc but not one to be worshipped but admired and respected.
I remember hearing this on my way to college back in the day and here we are 26 years later. Still sounds the same hearing it now it takes my back, thanks DOOM you may be gone physically but you still living with the beats and the rhymes you created in the studio
Check out the December 15, 1994 show recording. Features the original demo version of 'Gas Drawls', as well as freestyles from Earthquake and appearance by Lord Sear. That show is truly the first link of Zev Love X's journey to become MF DOOM, in the '94 show he had stopped going by Zev, and just by his nickname DOOM; and then this '97 show was the first appearance of him using the MF prefix which he got from MF Grimm (whom he shouts out in this show.)
Mad Ghost comparisons with this era DOOM. Also, it's like he still had that KMD lightness in the voice somewhat. Think this, then the timbre on "Operation Lifesaver (aka Mint Test)" for example- marked difference.
If you really wanna hear the link from Zev Love X, check out the December 15, 1994 recording (3 years before this freestyle) where he gave Bobbito the original 'Gas Drawls' demo, that wouldn't see a finished release until Operation Doomsday in '99. He's still very much using the Zev Love X cadence on that one. Also check out the song 'Check Mate' with Earthquake from 1994 as well. Those 2 recordings are the true bridge from Zev to the Supervillain.
I remember listening to this very show live, late night , in a hotel room with my girl bagging up . . .joke. I already knew DOOM was dope at the time, and was so hyped off his last line, it was perfectly coinciding with what I was doing at that time. Looking back now it's ill how in tune with the beat selection he was. Ill rapper illl producer ill artist ill supervillain indeed. Been a fan since the " Rush helps to manage the kawsin much damage" days
The other days I realized it. We were partying for the new year's eve and we read about DOOM passing, it destroyed all the fun immediately. It's like being the Grinch at Christmas! What a villain move.
X EvolVez...to think he was backing 3rd Bass on Gas Face and went on to surpass them, in terms of his immense discography and career making rekkids. KMD reunited in heaven.
Damn! Listened to a lot of stuff but his ability to just slay that mic whenever is why he is the underground undisputed king of cerebral hip hop. Peace to MFDOOM freestylin’ to the ends of the galaxy.
If been a huge fan of M.F.DOOM since the beginning when I heard he passed I was devistated he was so multi talented as far as im concerned he should go down as one of the most prolific MC's In this hop hop generation big up to the Super villain
I think he has. His legacy is felt by those that respect the genre and you cannot make a top 10 list without DOOM being on it. He's influenced the underground scene like crazy, too.
