Thx Lance..... just replaced my fuel pump on my 35X in the uk, cost me £15. Also a number of fuel pipes due to corrosion. First start today and she fired up first time, heat plug assisting..... this is a great series and as below really helping with my build.... 🚜

After fixing my injection pump with help of your video, it didnt start yesterday, despite having fuel at the injector. I tried again this morning and gave the lift pump a good priming before trying to start and it was ok. The best part, i now understand why the oil level had increased! New seal kit on way. Thanks for sharing Lance!

Thanks Lance, That one looks to be recoverable, but as you have access to new ones makes sense to replace it. It's not the type of thing you want to go wrong for sake of $50 or so.

G day Gordon, Yes for a $20 or so kit it would be an option but for a bloke that sells tractor parts it is not worth doing for me.

I came across your site by accident and since I'm tin 2 weeks isolation I've plenty time to watch your videos. I think they are brilliant. I've got 10 tractor with my brother and it's taken over my life a bit :-)....I have a Dexta that was giving me a few problems on road runs and eventually traced the problem to the lit pump, bought a new one and its a new tractor. Starts easier, runs better and is just a pleasure to run. I've been restoring a DB880 and it also was a reluctant starter, even after the fuel pump was overhauled. Having watched your injector pump video, I could have save a ton of cash...anyway I changed the lift pump on that too and it made a huge difference to the starting. Any future project will be getting a new lift pump, for the cost its just not work doing. Anyway, keep these videos coming. I've a 135 multipower in the shed for overhaul at some point so your vids on the multipower clutch gave me a real understanding of how they actually work Love the background noises...they probably sound worse in the shed than they do on my laptop :-)

G Day Bill, Yes the noises get very loud but now a days i have some different sound cleaning gear. On the David Brown, check the length of the fuel lift pump push rod as I have found that they get worn and when I was working for David Brown I would braze or weld the end of them and polish it up so the fuel lift pump would get the correct travel.

@@BundyBearsShed Thanks Lance, I think I've still got the pump somewhere, so I'll take a look at that for any wear. Keep up the great work

All your videos are great, i commented when i first found your CAV injector pump seal up vid, i then realised i drink bundaburg ginger beer, haha, and ive been watching since. Enjoy all the engine/engineering videos. I enjoy working on my ford transit with the bosch ve pump, but my boat has a cav injector pump [its a bmc 1500] bit more effort to do work etc, and to tune it up hahaha, i love a little bit of smoke i do! :D Ive even wacked a turbo on my transit van. Thanks for taking your time to make these vids and explain in detail, i do it all myself but i never ever stop learning new tips tricks and enjoy seeing others do it too. Your time is appreciated! Brilliant vid series this MF resto. I like everything diesel hhaha. Cheers again from England. Its just after 10pm here and its 0 degrees Celcius outside so i hope for a couple of nice transit cold starts tomorrow. both Di engines so no glow plugs. They always go though haha! :D

forgot to say, your videos on the cav have been my only education on them along with my own tinkering and learning on the real thing infront. your videos were imperetive to getting it right the first time round and knowing certain definite parameters

G Day Cold Start Daily, I have been a mechanic for over 4 years now and I still learn things often. If it is of interest you seem to soak up information especially on mechanical things, always something new to learn.

As usual, an excellent video BUT I am cursing today because I couldn't get one fuel line tight in a new lift pump! One fuel line screwed into the pump OK but the plastic tip in the other had come adrift and remained in the old pump. Of course, the new pump leaked like hell without that seal. If your connections are leaking, that might be worth checking.

Yes you really need the rubber olives when fitting a new pump if the pipes take them. There are two different types.
@marinetrax
@marinetrax Год назад
@@BundyBearsShed I replaced my lift pump on my Perkins diesel engine with one of your bare-co ones, and i get around an hour before the tractor dies from lack of fuel. I bought the straight rubber olives but it still does the same thing. You mentioned there are two different types of olives. Are there two different types or rubber olives, or you talking about the brass and rubber olives? Thanks

So if this thing goes a foul, would it prevent your tractor from running I wonder. I know for a fact that, pumping the lever on mine does nothing. Have a sneaking suspicion I’ll be getting a new one. Mine has the sediment bowl on it.
@BundyBearsShed
@BundyBearsShed 10 месяцев назад
Yes it will not give the tractor enough fuel to run properly.

Is it normal for these lift pumps to leak oil out of the little lever pin holes? ive replaced 2 lift pumps on my massey and they both leaked oil there. im concerned its getting diesel in my oil somehow. However when i take them apart the diaphragm has no holes in it.
@BundyBearsShed
@BundyBearsShed 3 года назад
Not really normal, the fuel will not get into your engine though as the fuel is on the top of the diaphragm and the oil on the bottom.

Hi Lance, pardon the dumb question but what would be the symptoms of a bad lift pump? I’m working on a MF 25 at the moment and I suspect the pump has seen better days.... so before removing it, just want to see if I can check for things before going on. I really appreciate your videos, thanks for the good work!
@BundyBearsShed
@BundyBearsShed 4 года назад
Usually they will idle ok but wont take full load due to fuel restriction. It is reasonably common for the valves to come loose.

Bundy Bears Shed Thanks! Mine is hard starting so the problem is elsewhere. I will look for something else. Eric
@travisricks3436

I think this is the problem with my MF231. It’s running out of fuel in the glass bowl at the fuel filter and sucking air. It keeps dying after running a little while.
@BundyBearsShed

There is a screen on top of the tank tap as well, it is worth checking out.

@@BundyBearsShed Lance, you were correct. The fuel pet cock and the line from the pet cock to the fuel lift pump was pretty much stopped up! I went and checked this morning. There was no screen on the pet cock and I know there should have been. I ordered a new screen from Massey Ferguson. I have a new fuel pump on the way for nothing now because that wasn’t the problem. Thank You, you’re a fine young man!

Thanks for another great video Lance I am rebuilding a Massey 135 and I managed to cross thread the fuel outlet pipe. By any chance do you know what the threads are on the lift pump fuel outlet? Thanks again from your loyal subscriber in Scotland

Lance, do you if the tea 20 has locating dowels on the main bearing cap? The big end caps have dowels but the main bearing cap seems to be lacking them: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xuoxI1TkQPY.html
