Good review! I have been wanting to see one of the these MFJ-971's up close. MFJ's catalog doesn't show but the front of this tuner. This is a very versatile, small thus portable tuner. I'll be purchasing one for myself.
About the price, they have to make the housing, drill holes, cut out meter hole and paint it. Then order in all of the parts and build the unit, and test it. Then ware house the completed unit etc. Also at the same time pay for the building, power, people, taxes etc. I would like to see ThePauperPrepper do that and only charge a small amount for this tuner! My Hats off to MFJ for amazing products, at a good price point. BTW thanks for the video! 73 Jimmy, ARRL TS, WX9DX
I bought this tuner to pair up with my MFJ-9420. It does the job. I haven't needed to select the QRP option. The low (30W) range gives enough resolution for me.
I really like your vids. You could shorten them slightly by pausing after the removal/reinstall of one screw. Other than that they are incredibly informative. Keep up the fantastic job!!
Great Video. I was wanting to get a tuner for using mobile. Not for my screwdriver but for throwing stuff up in trees and running the coax into my IC7100 and having a competent tuner for matching to various configurations. That way I can use a full 100watt load and that tuner appears to be able to handle up to 300watts.
Good vid! I use MFJ-9420 /p and get very good results down on my local beach with quarter wave vertical, it's a very punchy little radio and the matching tuner results in a very handy /portable set-up. Tony - G7OEM - Blackpool - NW-UK
So if I tune at 5 watts do I push the button in then push it again after tuning and raising power.im having all kind of issues It is so sensitive I touch a knob and it either jumps all over or I spin it from one end to the other and get no response any help appreciated
Hi, is possible you can illustrate actual connections to a radio and antenna? Also explain if the rear features are necessarily to be used. What is a balanced line, Inductance and so forth. The instructions aren't very helpful. Thx.
I bought mine used in very good condition. However, I need to adapt a 12v plug to power meter light, but there is No indication or markings that indicate if the center is positive and outer negative or vice versa. Does anyone know?
MFJ has the crappiest paint jobs and silk screening I have ever seen - the "T" on your front panel in the word "inductance" has rubbed off. I have a new MFJ-936B loop tuner. I gently rubbed my finger twice over the front lettering of my unit to clean dust off the front panel - two swipes with my finger and my lettering all rubbed off !!!!!
