It’s probably fair to say that MG has seen its fair share of ups and downs throughout the years, but with a fresh approach at the end of the noughties, MG now has two models on the market.
Launched in 2011, the MG6 is a large hatchback that borders on saloon territory, and which has seen a range of recent updates to improve its quality, efficiency and also its performance.
It’s got stiff competition, though, in the form of cars like the Skoda Octavia and Vauxhall Insignia, so does this relative newcomer have what it takes to contend with more established rivals?

My MG6 TL DTI Tech is a fantastic car with low insurance and £30 road tax. It is loaded with extras, bi-xenon directional headlights lights , driving LED's, headlight washers, rear camera and sensors, climate control, leather interior, leather, electric adjustable and heated seats, DAB radio, sat nav and computer and adjustable cruise control. It is fast, handles well, carries a huge amount of luggage if required and does do 60 mpg on long runs whilst being extremely quiet on motorways and not as described on the vid. Unbeatable for value for money.

I bought a 3 year old MG6 1.8 turbo last year. 43k miles, one previous owner ... £4k. Got lots of toys and gizmos on it, looks the part and it drives superbly. This car has not missed a beat and a full service at my local garage last month cost me under £100 What do people want FFS? Previous to this I had a 2012 BMW 318 which was as temperamental as my wife. I would recommend an MG6 to anyone who wants a lot of car for a little money.

my mg 6 diesel showing water in the fuel warning.i been to a workshop and replaced the fuel filter , but the problem is still there can I take it to your garage

Saw this car in Doc Martin, thank you Netflix. Was excited to see the MG badge on the front of this car, but it wasn’t the MG I remember and Love, I’d almost done anything back in the day to own a MGB. The Britts have always designed beautiful automobiles! To bad that they aren’t building a gorgeous car for us poor folks anymore😓

Great review mate, very unbiased and honest. I really want to like this car, with myself and brother owning MG Rovers. However sadly the styling internal and external just don't look good at all in our opinions. I'd like to see an estate model too!

I use to own a MG ZS 180 2001 model in blue with the large spoiler leather seats 18inch alloys. All that aside they were fantastic cars to own and drive the build quality was always next to nothing performance was also very good back in the early 2000s 0-60 in 7.3 seconds and around 139mph top end I owned it for 5 years which I had some of the best driving fun with. They really don't build them in the same way any more, the MG6 firstly is Chinese which the original were built in England using good quality materials these cars today look good don't get me wrong but thats about it they need to put more money into materials and quality in the same time keeping the price low which is always been the MG way it was always a working mans car!!

Are you sure you actually owner a ZS180 and not just dreamt of one? Better build quality and materials than an MG6????? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I'm a total MG nut through and through, but the ZS build quality and material wise, was utter crud, as was most of the MGR cars, with the exception of the 75/ZT (and project drive saw to the cheapening of them!). Awesome cars to drive, fast and probably the best FWD handling car I've ever driven, but they were a complete dogs dinner in terms of quality when compared to the MG6.

MG 6 is like brand new Rover 45 , car is sou nice and looks like car who have a lot off power.-Line is very nice and back headlights are sou big and nice too and looks like back headlights of rover 45 hatchback from 2001 and front off car looks like MG-Rover 75 or 45 facelift great car comes from legend icon from car-world great video bay!

Absolutely! Both Tata and Mahindra are massive Companies now Tata also own the Dormant"Rover" Name That could be resurrected at anytime to I probably think Tata would do a better job at marketing the Rover Brand than what SAIC have done with the MG Brand on this side of the world The Sales of the latest MG range seems to be very Lack Lustre (Low key)They havent made in roads at all TBH

I originally had my heart set out on a 2016 mg6. Had 9k on its clock and was a top of the line model. Loved the way it drove though alot of stories online scared me as replacements parts seemed impossible to get ahold of. Check euro car parts. That a trouble with the dealership ended up with me taking my business elsewhere. I settled on a 64 plate insignia Elite. Still undecided if it was the correct choice for my heart but its definitely the right choice for the head.

Very scarce and therefore expensive parts even for basics like brake discs and pads, most MG garages don't want anything to do with them and use any excuse in the book to not work on them. Wait times on parts (if they can even get them) from China are long. Drives great, looks great but always worried with reliability. You chose correctly mate.

Eurocarparts for parts? Dealer every time. If you want cheap Chinese parts, go onto AliExpress, there's plenty for the MG's. Personally I'll stick to OEM parts from dealers (Brown and Gammons a good place to start).

@@PhotoWirral this was back three years ago. I've not had any issues with my insignia. It's been a reliable work horse and is now sat at 100k 50k of happy motoring.

The petrol engine is in fact the same engine rover where using. How ever this engine thanks to the bofins at MG in China have made it what it should have been 10 years ago.

Not exactly the Same engine as its"Head gasket Blowing" Rover K-Series Predecessor its SAIC"s 1.8L Kavachi turbo unit a heavily re engineered unit using a new head and case structure new Manufacturing materials and Head gasket Structures etc Unfortunately all this Improvisation came to little to late in the day The MG6 ceased production last year

I work at main dealer they are rubbish egr blocks every 20000 you cant buy a new one dpf block up engine light evey week dmf wear at low milage the rest of the range are good but what a lemon the 6 diesel is

Do you work at Pinkstones? 😃 Definitely go for the 1.8 Turbo petrol, if nothing else, not only a good solid engine, but better parts availability both because it was built for the global market (the derv was built for the UK only) but also because some components are share with the K-Series and latterly the K-Series (from the LF500's).

worst car I've ever owned suspension failure brake failure coolant warnings stability control failure abs failure list is endless. The car actually made me ill through stress and I wasn't alone with my faults. Avoid buying an MG at all costs there is a very good reason they are cheap!

So they sold you a damaged one, the damage was fixed at some point but you peg all MG6s to be the same as your lemon?

@@davidspencer7254 they didn't sell me a damaged one. The cars were built overseas and then shipped to Longbridge to be converted to UK spec with different suspension, brakes and other parts. My car slipped through somehow as once parts were replaced they stated none were UK spec. To make matters worse these parts then broke it failed shortly after fitting along with an electrical system that was not fit for purpose. Glad I got rid of it and still insist the MG range is utter garbage.
