I don’t know what it is about an MG Metro but I do love them, I did back in the 80’s and then my parents got one in 1988 but not because I loved them. It was a darker red colour and in some ways I would love one that shade of red. Yours is a great little car and looks bags of fun.

Thanks. Yep it is definitely all about the memories these cars bring back. When people chat at shows they usually offer a story of why the car has brought back memories.

Yes I love the Metro Sport. MG engine and MG wheel covers but with the black centres. Absolutely understand missing them. Turbo is wonderful to drive too.

spheres refurb for me next as well, little but saggy, i pump her up to spec, then 4 months later, she will be down in the nose again, but no fluid leaking. got some rear mgf spheres for the front and some gti rears waiting for collection. :) then off to ian and dawns

Awesome. I think originally they had a 15 year life span so my MG Metro certainly needed it done.

My father bought a new W reg 1.0L HLE that was very problematic and was traded in for a new X reg MG Metro that stayed in the family for many years. It passed into my hands in the mid-90s and I had to do some rust repairs (inner wing structure rotted) and then onto my brother, though sadly scrapped some years later. My father also bought an A reg Metro Turbo which again stayed in the family for a long time. The MG variants were really fun cars, the rev happy A series engine coupled with light weight and great handling made them a real blast to drive.

Very very nice interior, I had a metro mg turbo and unfortunately the engine blew up and i was only doing 30 mph at the time. I was told later that the engine should never have had a turbo fitted ,the engine was not strong enough to take a turbo apparently.

Thanks. I don’t know about the engine but the turbo would destroy the gearbox in sump quicker.

Very unusual for the engine to fail on the Metro turbo if it was properly serviced, boost pressure was very low from the factory and plenty of people reliably made far more power from them than Rover gave it. The real issue was the gearbox which simply couldn't cope with the torque from the turbocharged A series, the output shaft bearing had a very short life if the car was driven hard.

In 1989 I had a red B reg MG metro. I was 17 and living in Elford with my parents. Needless to say these videos of the metro being driven on the same roads are almost literally a trip down memory lane! I had it for 6 years. If I had the means and more importantly a garage I would buy one like a shot
