Great video, I am on a similar journey with a MK1 Golf GTI, I have opted for cellulose due to not wanting to breath in isocyanates in my garage and only having a cartridge mask. I’m tackling my bodywork slightly differently, I will just be working on one panel at a time from start to finish, this is mainly due to my car being in relatively good condition. You have done a great job, it’s all part of the enjoyment of restoring a classic car.

Really well done job there. I’m on my penultimate block sanding run on a Dolomite Sprint I’m respraying, it’s my project so first time doing this stuff, and nervous to see what 7 months of body prep is going to result in with my celly top coat going on in the next couple of weeks. I’ll also be finishing up on 600 grit block sanding as I had sanded through a lot of high spots recently with 320, so went back with a lot of touch up etch and waiting for it to cure for the rest of the week. Hope my DIY respray comes out as well as yours! 👍

I have been following many of your videos - very helpful. I am restoring a Mk1 Midget(1962) - very rusty with repair panel on top of repair panel (three on the passenger side floor for example). Could you tell me please what air compressor you used to spray the primer and top coat. i.e. the cfm, tank capacity and hp, etc. (The make and model would be helpful). I understand from the video that you used the same spray gun for primer and top coat (Sealey 1.4nozzle). Regards Tony
@mgmidget-thebirthofaraceca4349
thanks for watching. try not to overthink the compressor. mines a very old 25ltr that you can buy for around £120. ideally a 50ltr setup would be better. the important thing is to get the water trap/regulator so you can maintain 20-40psi while spraying. if the air runs low you stop and let it refill the cylinder

Hi great video. I am about to spray my mg with the same gun. Can you remember what adjustment you had for fluid. How many turns out from closed position. Regards dave.
@mgmidget-thebirthofaraceca4349
Since this video I tend to run lower pressure now about 25-30 psi, adjust the fan to about 10-12 inches . Be careful on the trigger to avoid runs but gets less mist in the air and less orange peel as more paint at less pressure. Good luck. It’s all learning but I’m sure you’ll be chuffed with the results

Don’t touch the bodywork with your hand after you have used panel wipe you will leave greasy prints which can react and ruin your job Good first try came out looking sweet well done

What made you go for 40psi on your spray gun? Most spraying vids I have seen they are spraying at around 22 - 25psi.

Interesting question! got me thinking. The sealey S701 gun i used had a recommended pressure of 43psi which matched the youtube tutorials i watched but i did sometimes feel i had alot of air and could have done with more paint so next time Im painting, Im going to try your suggestion to see what difference it makes. Thanks for the comment. cheers, martin

@@mgmidget-thebirthofaraceca4349 40 psi is way too high my man,that's why you had issue with alot of air and not enough paint,defo drop it down to 20 ish psi and build from that but defo not as high as 40 👍
