We hit the road in our long-term test MG4 51kWh Excite test vehicle. How much charging will it take to travel 1000km, and how much with the trip cost?
Yes, we know the audio is bad due to a camera fault!

Thanks Rich, really enjoy Bjorn's work and good to see his 1000km test replicated in NZ conditions. Downside of his being in Norway is their extreme winters which imoacts comoarability of the tests

I would like to see a Bjorn Sunday 80km speed drive consumption test. Bjorn got 11.6kwh/100km. with the MG4 51 in Thailand

Sound wasn't too bad. Actually a very interesting test particularly the real world comparison of cost. Next time maybe try off SH1 perhaps SH 27, 5, 30 and bring my granddaughter and DIL with you :)

Great stuff, sad about the slow dc charger rate.

I enjoyed that. Aussie 51 models charge at 88kw too. I have the Essence 64 and get similar consumption. I do find driving on normal works better than ECO for efficiency.

I think every MG4 with the small battery does, no?

The UK 51 MG4 is also only 88kwh not 117kwh. See Stuart Thomas MG4 videos re trips and charging. Well at least I got my $7015 rebate before National scuppered it. 20%-70% seems the best charging curve, 25kwh 25min stop and 150km range and just about my bladders limit driving time.

Interesting test. Sadly it will cost another $76 plus admin fee from April 1 thanks to the current government's plan to disincentivize EV adoption. I don't mind paying RUCs though, provided petrol users also pay to pour CO2 into the atmosphere.

You can't blame the new Government for EV RUCs, it was planned well before the election.

Feedback - please don't say "we have made it to..." it creates a negative impression that anti EV folks just love that EVs struggle to drive anywhere with distance. Next time, skip Tirau and try Putaruru Z. Toilets, cafe, fast. Should be able to hit Waiouru via SH32. Less traffic/road works and nicer scenery with a windy road :-) SH1 is a nightmare with all the roadworks.

We have shot two of these since, and skipped Tirau. We could have easily skipped Tirau this time charge-wise. My bladder on the other hand...
