Thumbs up for station-wagon EVs. Europe needs efficient and practical family cars like this MG 5. Apart from Peugeot that will release the e-308 sw next year, I don't see any competitor at the moment.
@@TheCoBBus yes we can account for next Audi A6 as well, even though it will be on another level for price dimensions range and so on. To be fair, even Porsche Taycan has a kind of "stilish estate" version but we talk about a luxury product not really intended to be the ultimate family car.
I use my MG5 to make family (2 adults, 2 small kids, small dog, lots of luggage) trips to my parents. They are 160 miles away and most of the journey is at 70mph (113kph). So far this has been no problem even in Scotland in winter with lights and auto climate control on. Normally works out at about 200 -210 mile range on that trip. Are those Nokians the stock OEM tyre?
In my opinion Volvo/Geely are really missing a trick. They have/had the best ICE estate in the V70 (access, load capacity, comfort) yet no announcement for an EV replacement. MG are in a prime position to take that throne and though the range (KM/Miles)is decent, and the UK price is great, they failed to on 3 fronts lack of frunk, level boot access, flat floor when seats are down☹️☹️☹️. Thrown in battery heating for good measure So near yet so far perhaps they can fix these things on the next update🤔🤔 Software issues can generally be resolved OTA
@@mrmerm with the release of the p3 and soon ex90 they will start to make the big platform cars fully electric. I remember seeing even a compact new 40 series car on that list. I’m guessing they can’t move faster because of production not being able to keep up. I totally also think a diesel hybrid would’ve been a nice stop gap from them but i guess allocating the resources to a fully electric future is their plan.
Maybe the tinkerers among us could make a replacement under bonnet cover with a "frunk" moulded into it? Clevely Motors chucked the covers in 2 MG5s they use as service barges. They replaced them with some sort of plastic trays wedged in. They use them as extra cable and sundries carriers. Seems to have worked well so far.
Although in the standard (LFP) Version, the preheat function does like NOTHING... 60kw advertised charging speed for the standard range - you get like 30 kw in the winter at peak...
Thanks for the videos I have been looking forward to your test results on the MG5. For the past year I have been driving the pre face-lift long range version here in the UK and it has done everything I have asked of it, however I fancy changing to this face-lift version for the improvements to the infotainment system, headlights, interior and more.
It should just disable the pilot because every manufacturer clearly states to NOT use the system unattended. Now if people suddenly get sick wich does happen i guess things will be bad but all in all it is 100% the drivers responsebility to be active and attentive at all times driving. The cost to equip the car with an automatic braking system for safe stop is not in this price range so you cannot at all expect it to be on the car at all. Although it is a wagon it is a very small wagon and not really more spacious then other SUV type electric vehicles. This facelifted version does look alot better then the old one both outside and inside.
Bucketloads where I live. Ppl just want "car". They goto dealer & buy "car". O btw you plug it in & it's cheaper - "ok" , boom another sale. I was out on a bikeride in the middle of nowhere once & one went by. Looking firward to seeing the facelift hit the UK.
Bjørn I notice you have a phone app displaying extra data about the MG5 while you test it. Can you tell me which app and OBD2 plug you use for this car? There seems to be very little information on the Internet for monitoring the MG.
@@bjornnyland From the recent videos i wacthed this car has a consumption between 3,2miles-4,0 miles per kw. By looking at these numbers do you think this cae is efficient or not? By the way i can not wait to see your video abut this car. I think you are becoming a standart like wltp :)
We dont need more sedans, SUV's or saloon cars. More and more in Western countries, there are 1 person households, or max duo's. So we need more smaller, 2 door and/or 2-seater EV's with a descent 300km range, like the Fiat 42kW 500e. Those are less heavy, need less materials to build less room to park etc. So many EV's on the road that have around a 10m2 footprint or larger, and transport just 1 person. Bad for environment. Smaller EV's could and should be more affordable to.
@@bjornnyland Where did i say that? So far, about all EV's are SUV, Saloon and Sedans. How many of those are 2 door small EV's? with a usable 300km range? . . . . . . . . The 42kW Fiat 500e . . . . and name a few more please. Shall i count all the Tesla models, VW, KIA, Volvo, MG, Hyundai, Polestar, Ford, Audi, BMW, Mercedes, models that are 4-door EV's with 4 to 7 seats, build larger families? There literally is just 1 smaller car that has a decent 300km range.
@@gaboredes9315 I just Search for a small 2-door EV that has a minimum range of 300km. . . . . . . I only found 1 car. The Fiiat 500. You can do the same for EV and small working vehicle. I found Citroen Jumpy, Fiat Scudo, Peugeot Expert, Toyota Proace to name a few.
@@BMWHP2 driving 3000 kg cars to carry 70kg human every day. Even Fiat 500e is heavy especially in city daily driving. I want to see Aptera type solutions.
