It isnt much about input but positioning. Ganondorf’s upsmash pushes himself away from the shielder. If Dorf is at the edge of a platform and u-smashes at ledge, it will cancel the remaining frames of the move as he is pushed off ledge and can move freely.
You just up smash while facing ledge, at the very end of the ledge. If they shield it, the shield stun pushes you off the end of the ledge and it causes to the move to ledge cancel, which removes the end lag of the move. You can then follow up with a bair or side b.
