Ciggarettes was the first way i learned. Learned about the goggles within the next playthrough. I much prefer the goggles. If you have the stealth you get after beating the game once by not saving Meryl, you can just put stealth on and walk right through everything.

Knew about the cigarettes from fucking Egoraptor's Metal Gear Awesome 2 lol...

on the ps1 version you can see faint gray lasers if you squint REAL hard.

If you "game over" with the gas in that room 25 times in a row, snake gains a natural immunity to it for the rest of the game.

Yeah......hate to break it to you friend, but most people kinda knew this from 20+ years ago, and we already had the hint at the beginning codec calls Mel Ling: "Cigarettes? How are those going to help you?" Snake: "....You never know"
