Rich i know this got allot of views but i want to tell you that you did such a great job making this video. So much garbage on youtube (including some of my own promotional stuff) but you really discussed this c6 console removal as a true mechanic considerate of the possible mistakes a layman could make. This walked me through my first time removing my console and shift knob seamlessly. Thanks so much, todd Nappi
This is the best "how to" video I've ever used! I used it step by step to pull the center console from a 2006 Corvette. Not one issue! I highly recommend this video of you need to pull the console from a C6.
How does the automatic boot work on my 08? I have a bad microswitch causing it to stick in park. New microswitch from Mouser will be here tomorrow. I don't want to damage the leather. My vette is pristine! I'll solder the new switch in. Looks like it snaps in. NC contact. (I am EE and used to be a bench tech at Radio Shack so I am good with solder). Any help appreciated greatly!
First class video! Professionally done with a clear voice, good pronunciation, directions, a steady camera, good description of tools, and an overall confidence builder for all of us that want to do this work. AND, thank you Rich for not having extreme loud crazy music with this video. Well done ! Thanks, Tim
Thanks for your video. You showed me just what I had to do to get to my hazard warning switch. The person I bought the corvette from had added a blue tooth option to the radio/navagation system, and the installer forgot to re-install the hazard switch connector. And just for those with an automatic, you do not have to do anything with the shifter, because it is not attached to the trim.
Really well done instruction. I mean really well done. Just the right amount of detail, spoken plainly and paced perfectly, unambiguous descriptions of the parts. Not only in the car he’s working on, but also telling you what to expect in vettes with different trim levels and years. That little touch is IMO, an example of next level quality of process. Beside the fact you get high value content, you are spared the obnoxiana. Avid youtubers will think they missed the first couple of minutes of the video, because there’s not a bunch of crap about how you need to like, subscribe, click the bell, yada yada blah blah. I agree with the others who wish all how to diy videos were like this. No nonsense, just get it done correctly and efficiently. I would give this five stars if stars were a thing on RU-vid .
I want to say thank you so much. I ended up having this happen last night at 925pm in a taco fast food drive thru. I needed to take my console off to get to my shifter link. Tow truck came at 2am finally, but no part stores were open. I was able to pull the shifter link forward to put it in gear and drove it home. The tow truck towed my Denali XL instead. But I see why these things break, the heat in our consoles melt the Shiftrr Linkage Bushing...uumm hey Chevy, HEAT AND PLASTIC DON'T MIX! Just wanted to send a thank you because you will save me lots of money! 💪🏽😎👍🏽
Glad it was a good help. George (the owner of MGW & myself shot this years ago in his shop, he's a great friend and glad I could help him put this video together.
Worked great for me. You don't really need to remove much, Just enough to get a dramel tool on the little plastic lock out. very easy with a dramel tool. I just lifted the boot enough to see it, One cut and gone. Also my c6 was totally locked in park, you can do it, no need foe a dealer.
My 2009 C6 Corvette has locked up the automatic transmission in Park at least 4 times. The dealership can’t replicate the problem. 5/1/2023, the dealership technician says you can’t get a replacement shifter, they are impossible to find. The Parking Pawl will take some surgery to cut it away and eliminate the issue.
Like so many have already stated, absolutely the BEST DIY video on you tube! Had to swap out the radio and if I'd tried doing it without seeing this video, Lord know how many clips, connectors etc I might have busted. Thank you for making me feel like I actually knew what I was doing for a change! :)
Wow Brother! Great video..... I haven’t had any issues like this on my C6, but if I do, I know where to go.....very thorough, and slow enough to understand. Thanks 🙏
I found after buying 3 shifters that I could manage this "tie back" fix my self. BUT, my shift knob does not have a set screw, 2007 base> it slides on using a ferrel type compression fitting. Requiring the usual 1/4 turn on the nut to separate the nut from the shifter knob. Now the real nut...all I had to do was put a brass hollow rivet on top of the pushdown rod to shim up the squeeze lever action and push the pushdown rod unlocked like a charm. I will redo this with a new knob and build up the inside of the hole that accomodates the pushdown rod. I think just a piece of foam shoved in the knob hole will the trick, as long as the slide fittings lock good. You just want to push the pushdown rod a little farther so it frees the ratchet. BTW I had already modified the security lock lever on the solenoid before I discovered this. So I think if your shifter knob slides on with no set screw you are going to continue to misfit the mechanism as the slide assembly wears only slightly. Original shifter made in China the two replacements made in Mexico. Purchased at the dealer. I compliment the video and its maker. What a fine job he did.
Thank you MGW! I need to replace my TCS push button switch and had no idea how to get at it from under the console. This is one of the best "how to" DIY instructional videos I've seen in a long time.
My HVAC control module just failed. I'm trying to get brave enough to attempt the swap myself. Mines a 2013, so this is perfect for me. If I can do this myself, I'll save at least 1/2 what the dealer would charge. So nice to see the 'hidden' stuff like that shifter boot plastic lock ring...I would've NEVER been able to figure that one out myself. I have the HELM service manual set, that stuff is assumed knowledge!
Thanks for this thorough video, have automatic but main interest is counsel removal, Need to get rid of plastic shiftier before it breaks and leaves me stranded.
