Team Darkside I really hope MHWorld becomes its own series, because I enjoyed it more than every Monster Hunter before. I don't care if the older series offered more challenge, because what MHW did was polish the gameplay to cater to a faster-paced playstyle. I enjoyed the older games, since they also catered to the limitations of handheld, but the gameplay was clunky and could get monotonous. MHW showed everybody what MH could achieve on newer hardware in spectacular fashion. I wish Capcom would release a MHW-style game for the Switch, because even with graphics turned down to accommodate the hardware, that gameplay will still shine through.

I didn't play Gen at all, so Gen Ult is going to be a lot of interesting and fresh content for me. I also think it'll be nice to have on the Switch, since I don't think I got into the games as much on the 3DS (I played a lot more 3U on Wii U than 3DS, for example). Been waiting on the PC release for World, and I haven't play any Monster Hunter older than 3U, so there should be a lot of fun stuff in Gen Ult for me to do, even if all I probably end up doing is mostly low and high rank.

XX, for its massive variety of armor sets, does VERY little to balance them against one another and make every set seem worthwhile. All but two or three sets are also extremely starved for slots. So despite the massive variety of available armor pieces, you'll mostly be using the same few pieces every time, because everything else either has weak skills, or simply not enough slots. So XX's charms don't do anything to encourage you to make a new set, because the vast majority of sets are complete trash. World for all its flaws manages to have more armor pieces being used despite only having maybe a tenth of the number of craftable armor pieces XX has.

I get bored easily so most games i abandon after a few weeks of playing. I started playing MHGU since it came out, and still play it everyday. Started as adept LS and got bored...Try Valor LS... bored again, tried evade lancer. Hey playing gunner seems fun, tried adept bow. Nah, bow’s doesn’t tickle my fancy yet, hey, hbg seems cool. Then LBG then hunting horn... Lol, everytime i try a new weapon, it’s like a new game to me. New armors to craft, new weapons. Hunting for the components... Then there’s the transmog. That armor looks cool! DLC armor, sailormoon palico?!? I need that! I seriously think i’ll still be playing this game until new year, which is a big thing for me...

Very poignant point about the old charm system vs. the newer decorations system. I much prefer the old system. While the RNG can be very rough in either case, you only need to grind for that one single piece, vs. 6 or more decorations. As well, your point about getting an unexpected charm motivating you to make a new armor set is spot on!
@Stratelier

In Generations I recently picked up a Charm with +12 Thunder Res and +3 Gloves Off. Basically has "EX Zinogre" written all over it....
@jake9854

i hated the old charm system... gears r extremely dependent on it, n it's completely random... nuisance
@thongorshengar
@thongorshengar 6 лет назад
The old charm system, alongside the armor skills, is total ass. Your sets are shaped by your charm. You can only make a variety of sets if you are lucky enough to have plethora of charms. It is much more RNG reliant than people think because charms alongside its skill system makes it a necessity.
@aninymouse1651
@aninymouse1651 6 лет назад
Thongor Sehn You think that because you chose to focus on the top 1% of possible sets. Guess what? It's the same thing in World. There are fewer possible decorations to get screwed out of, compared to the old charms, but the trade off is that instead of only needing one RNG piece for the perfect set, you now may need 5 or more instead. I prefer RNG charms, because they can allow you to have crazy, unexpected mix sets, which pushes you to craft extra armor pieces in order to try out the new combination. Even if you don't have the Fast charge +5 OOO you want yet, you might get something else worth having, including things you didn't even know you wanted. Additionally, in both games, there are plenty of mix sets that function perfectly well without any charms/decorations at all. The way you choose to be hostile and elitist over different flavors of the same RNG grind is frankly sad.
@Stratelier
@Stratelier 6 лет назад
To me, I liked how with the old charms system you generally need at least two items (armor, charm, and/or decoration) to even activate a skill at all. Though maybe the +10 threshold was just too high.... I'd rather see more skills activate weaker versions at +5.... Also, did not gaijin hunter already cover the point about charms vs. decorations between old-school and MHW? @3:31

You know, back when Double Cross was first announced, I thought to myself how can they possibly top this amount of content. Ye, granted the new world has its audience, but it loses the charm the old world had. Mhw is my first. I really hope the mainline MH, which continued by MHW, can also have such varieties MH Switch has. I JUST watched your first video on MHGXX and it did bum me a out a bit. I started with MHG and went to MH4U after because i was waiting for World to hit the PC. With MHGXX coming to the switch in August, i bought a Switch with eager anticipation of that title. I didn't really appreciate MHG when i first began because it was my first MH and it seemed a bit heavy on the learning curve and the grind. Having played through both MHG and MH4U (almost.. still working on final G rank) i am very excited to return to MHG. I learned so much from playing MH4U, i am not sure why it taught me more about the game than MHG... perhaps it was the combat was limited to "adept style". And the story kept me more interested and the upgrades and trading made more sense to me but although MHG was supposedly tailored to the beginner, MH4U taught me to love MH. Now armed with all my knowledge i am ready to tackle the massive MHGU, and i will be starting a new character. Thanks for the great videos that have helped me along the way, GH, and i really appreciate this one!

Diogmetes Although I started playing MH on the psp back in the mh freedom unite times I can really comprehend what you are talking about. Mh4u was the best mh Game in my view because it had so many cool monsters and it introduced one of my favorite weapons, the insect glaive. The story made me keep playing and the multiplayer mode (especially g rank) made me and my friends play days and nights (I still remember farming gogmazios it was sooo awesome) and now with the addition of the g rank in mhgu I really hope I can get this mh4u feeling back because somehow mhg and mh world were not able do this (I still have about 300-400 h playing time in both games so I definitely enjoyed them) now I only have to get a switch ^^

I've played a ton of previous MH games, but MH4U is currently my favorite MH game to date. Before World came out, I personally think that MH4U did a pretty decent job of introducing MH to newer players. That's where I first introduced MH to my brother, and the game really showed him the ropes well, and like you said, also thought him to love MH. So I think this may be the reason why MH4U taught you more. And also, this game had everything an experienced player would want (at least for me). As for Generations, like Gaijin said, it's more like a celebration, so I feel like this game was geared more towards those with previous MH experience, and thus I would NOT recommend to new players.

MH4U is what facilitated my transition from a casual hunter to a more serious veteran. I think the guild quest system is a really wonderful way to bridge the gap between the skill level of a player who just cleared the basic "main story" G rank quests and a player who has killed hundreds of a monster at 140 GQ strength

I’m really going to miss this style. I switched from Sunbreak to MHGU and after 160 hours that it took me to reach the multiplayer end boss I have to say this is my favourite one right after Tri Ultimate. World was great and I’m looking forward to W2 but at the same time I already miss these games as I don’t think they’ll ever return in this form. Rise wasn’t a bad game but it made the monsters victims and I didn’t feel like I was fighting for survival but just for another type of leather skirt.

World is great but has too many ways to exploit monsters on hunts imo. Like flinch locking almost any monster to sudden death with a 4 man group. I couldn't enjoy world like I did the old games. Xeno was so easy it was sad. The best moment for me so far in world was watching Shara break out of it's shell. Personally I think MHGU rivals freedom Unite and that was my favorite by a long shot. The decoration system in MHW is just terrible. There's no other way to describe it. After 400 hours I have no attack gem but I have at least a dozen if EVERY other gem... I also spent more than 10 real life hours with that melder cunt and got nothing. MHW is a good game but it literally has the worst RNG system in any game I've ever played. You can still have RNG but implement it well. Many games have done it before(including the older MH games). The fact that I still have no attack gem really made me quit the game. I don't see myself picking itup again even for the new monsters. I've been playing with basically the same armor/deco set for over 150 hours. This is just awful. If I had attack gems I would definetly still be playing since I would optimize builds and try new stuff but there's no point to keep playing MHW with that garbage RNG system.

I dont really get why they did it, maybe because of the nature of eastern videogames , but i just feel "shocked" seen all this flashy games with jumps and ultra fast moving monsters... and i kinda felt like MH forget about west... having to import those games for such a price...and seen how the slow paced hard fights because of your own limitations in the game went missing... MHW is kinda of a child between this games and all the classic MH, maybe thats why (imo) its the best MH ever since.

Katze not really, he explained really well that it was fatigue after playing mhx > mhgen > mhxx, basically the same game 3 times with some more content in mhxx, so for westerners it would have meant the same thing minus mhx. also mhgen, although is a really nice mh game, it was not well received by everyone, the weak point being the endgame, so probably mhxx expanded a lot on that and after a year away from classic monster hunter games it will feel nice to play mhgu instead of a chore (for me personally, it would have never felt like a chore since i love mh to death, but i understand that for some people it might would have)

I’ve played 150 hours of World before I got burnt out on it. Went on to play other things. MH World came out on PC so I bought it on that but I still felt burnt out even after months of not playing World. GenU comes out and I can’t put it down. Go back to World here and there now and I am highly enjoying it again. I think it’s great to have both games! Keeps one from getting stale. My only real gripe with World is that progress comes to a halt once you start jewel farming where I don’t feel that with classic where you are always getting one step closer per hunt most of the time.

I honestly burnt out of MH world fairly quickly. I'm a mixed set player so my sets rely a lot on decorations and the RNG decoration drops in MH World made me really frustrated and just pushed me away from the game. The multiplayer also was poorly implemented in World imo so I'm super excited to go back to MHGU when it comes out
@Xacris

There are definitely a few things from World that I'm going to miss when playing MHGU... No loading screens between areas; the most frustrating thing in the old games was getting hit into an exit by a monster and having to sit through 2 loading screens to get back into the fight, or even accidentally doing it yourself with an attack that moves you a lot (and this is exacerbated by the Switch loading screens being longer than the 3DS's). MHW's armor skill system is so much better, even if the random decorations are annoying. I love being able to build exactly what armor set I want without having to break out a spreadsheet to see what will work with what, or resign myself to just full sets from a single monster. I definitely love the styles though, I think they really add a lot to each weapon and allows you to completely change how you play even if you just use one or two weapons

I really can't wait for this game to come out, bought generations but it was during an extremely busy time in my life, then world came out and I couldn't stop playing. World is definitely my favorite monster hunter thus far but the lack of variety and the endless grind for augment and jewels just doesn't feel as good as the grind in 4u/gen. Trying to hard to appeal to the newer players I'd say.

For some reason this video soothed my soul. I was introduced to Monster Hunter at 4U when my long time Monster hunter friend convinced to buy and play with him when it came out, and it quickly became one of my favorite game series ever. Between 4U and Gen, i have possibly over a 1000 hours of game time and I never regretted a single hour. I even bought a brand new Japanese 3DS LL and a copy of XX i was so invested in the series, though i burned out with XX before even getting to the new content sadly after playing so much of Gen. So when World was announced it was like a dream come true, finally i could play Monster hunter with the full power of ps4 specs on the big screen, it was going to be everything I loved about Monster Hunter and more with beautiful graphics and it was even going to improve and evolve parts of the game that i felt were a little dated and less engaging. I was Pumped. And then it finally came, and it was amazing, it was beautiful, it was everything I wanted, except it wasn't? MHW is an amazing beautiful game, and yet for some reason by 80 hours in i was just kind of finished. Something just wasn't the same with MHW. 200 hours into 4U or gen i wasn't even close to done, i had just scratched the surface and HAD to keep digging. But approaching 70 in MHW and i was already tired of it. Maybe it was the tiny roster of monsters, or that most of the monsters seemed samey and uninteresting once i got over the initial first encounter. Maybe it was the corner cutting they seemed to do with the already small variety of weapons that meant over 50% of the weapon looks were just generic clones of each other. Maybe it was the lack of zones, or that god damn busy body bazel. Or maybe it was a little of all these things and more, tbh i'm not really 100% sure myself, but MHW just didn't end up engaging me the way previous titles did, as if something crucial was missing. So to hear some of my complaints echoed even if only slightly by you in this video. Makes me feel a little better.

I personally feel that MHW overly simplified what it meant to play this series, and I’m looking forward to losing some of those quality of life changes honestly. I want to gather, and paintbomb, and actually have to track down my prey. That and the weapons and armor actually have some grandeur to them in Gen Ult, like I know and love from past iterations.

I mostly play Monster Hunter with a buddy, just the two of us on the couch. Been that way since 3U, and GU won't be different. With that in mind: I loved Generations a lot, and I'm looking forward to some more of the older monsters (Barioth) returning. Most of all: G-rank. For me, MH just isn't the same without it. I guess 3U and 4U kind of spoiled us. I just love how much faster and how much more unforgiving the monsters are. And I love purple sharpness. There's no greater pleasure than being decked out in high-end G-rank gear, and utterly murdering some village monsters in seconds. I liked the Deviant system and I'm happy to see it return. I'm actually looking forward to grinding them out again. Most of all, MHGU will have transmogs. Finally I have a reason to hunt a ton more monsters for aesthetics. I can see myself farming 50+ armor sets now.

I'm going to play both. What MHXU lacks in polish, it makes up for in variety. After playing MHW since it came out, I caught myself wishing I could mix things up a bit more like I did in generations with its weapon styles, arts and stuff. Totally picking up MHGU, I had already imported XX for 3DS, and the switch version later. I really liked Gen. I never understood the hate for the styles since you can always opt out and go for Guild Style. It just expanded the attacks and movement options. Going back to Pokke and Yukumo was so awesome, and you can change your housekeeper to the old guild girls if you wanted. It was a blast, and I’ll happily hunt again. World was great, but it needed more monsters, and more importantly, more distinct weapon and armor. I hope they can build a full fledged game on that engine though. Maybe bring back some punishing aspects like negative armor skills and remove some of those beloved QOL improvements everyone yammers on about.

MHW is great but it just feels hollow. Like difficulty its handled poorly where the monsters arent challenging and the new blood devs in the MH team thinks tht just adding more attack and health will give us the difficulty we're looking for.....its not. Thts artificial difficulty. Over half of the armors and weps arent even used for endgame. Its like the meta has its own meta. Their isnt just enough variety to make mix sets or go for this weps, etc. which leads to not want to keep hunting. Farming feels less rewarding and more luck based. And any more variety they add of weps and armor through updates, just feels like an increment upgrade instead of something more. In the end, it just feels like MH has a brand new sexy body but just without any of the substance, the personality, the soul. but im giving this new blood team a benefit of the doubt and hopefully fixes it a bit with the much later G-rank expansion or the next main entry. But anyways im really looking forward to jumpin back into good ol classic MH with MHGU (I dont mind having to end up paying $20 for 1 year multi sub). I replayed Gen recently and it just felt heartwarming and gave me the "itch" tht was lacking for me in World. Im also looking forward to wht the 2ndary MH team has cookin for MH on Switch. U prefer more traditional while still having some QoL changes? MH on Nintendo; U want a completely revamped and all around QoL made MH game, tht almost anyone can play? MH on the other Consoles and PC. (well hopefully the next MH title on Switch is more traditional....I dont mind if its a mix of classic and new.) Best of both worlds honestly.

(and u culd clearly see I was talking about the main dev team, when I started mentioning the 2ndary team mostly b the ones making the MH title, for Nintendo) But u culd tell which one had more creative freedom to go outside the MH staple we know. *cough* MHW *cough*

Every time I play the three 3DS MH games I own and come up to a difficult battle it always seems to be difficult for two reasons.... Shit camera control and a shitty shaped non-intuitive controller that makes my fingers go numb. 90% of all of my f**k ups occur when I'm stretching my fingers or adjusting my grip on the DS. By the same account a lot of what appears to be a lack of difficulty in MHW can be attributed to the advanced fluidity of controls, movement, camera and a decent controller designed to sit in actual human hands. Plus a screen that I don't have to struggle to see. If TRI didn't have this so called "artificial" difficulty, where low rank Barroth could 2 shot cart you, just because of high damage numbers and high health. Then it would have been ridiculously easy (easier than world, and it still follows the old school formula exactly), just because it was being played on a big screen with a comfortable controller. World is definitely easier... But a lot of that is Capcom adding more pushover monsters in early game, and the lack of an ultimate G-level rank/true end game.
@Daigon95
@Daigon95 6 лет назад
+Grimmsect I honestly never had issues with playing MH on the 3DS, I never had to "fight" the controls or camera. MH4U and MHGU had it where it was just "right" for me. For both ease of use and difficulty (along with wht made me want to keep playing). 4th gen is where MH was at its best. MH3U and older I agree had artificial difficulty here and there (outside of the new types like MH4Us 140 GQs;; with the wonky camera, mostly due to Wii not having a proper 2nd stick and 3DS didnt hav a lock-on camera; and MHFU and older with the added almost shit control setup) but it had almost everything else tht made up for it. and also it wasnt bc of "early game" monsters but late game also. I never really had any issue with any of them bc they were so ez. I wuld b fine with Tempereds if they had "double edge sword" mechanic to them. Like Frenzy where monsters reacted more quickly and give u Frenzy tht had a detriment and benefit; or Hypers where the 2 spots moved constantly tht gave monsters extra attack but if u attack those spots they charged ur Arts quicker. If Tempereds were just better thought out and the RNG for hunting them was improved a lil more than MHW wuld b alot more enjoyable.

I'm actually going to be introducing a friend to the series with this title (partially due to availability of games), as I feel that the "classic" style monster hunters simply do a better job of teaching you how to play. I'm definitely going to prefer GU over World any time. Along side the usual pros and cons of World (I still think the game is pretty and some designs are cool, but really lacks even when compared to 3U and some things are straight-up bullcrap), I feel like it loses the charm of going out with friends to play Monster Hunter anywhere. Not everyone has free time on a fixed console, so having the compromise with a portable device is convenient. Also, local is and will always be free on the 3DS and Switch (if I read it correctly), while on PS4 and Xbox you need the 60€ Online Service.....yep

Monster Hunter World was my first MonHunt game. After its release I spent a good five months reading the Monster Hunter Wiki, trying to learn everything I could about the history of the Monster Hunter series. (That same thirst for knowledge also brought me to your channel.) And once Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate was announced, I made the decision to buy a Nintendo Switch and pre-order MHGU. I made this decision knowing full well that a lot of the quality-of-life improvements in MHW that I had come to take for granted would not be included in this game. The whole point of me getting this game was to experience as much of the history of the Monster Hunter series as I possibly could. So, I'm happy to report that as valid and well-articulated as your critique is (and I've also seen your original video on this topic) I'm jumping into MHGU precisely because I want to experience classic Monster Hunter with all of its strengths and all of its shortcomings. So, if you ever find yourself on a quest with a Hunting Horn-toting idiot named "Varsha", who is emoting at you like crazy... it's me. PS. I found your channel back when I was investigating why everyone seems to love Nargacuga. I stumbled upon your old "MHX: Why Nargacuga is Special" video. And then I proceeded to watch the rest of your Monster Features. If you find the inspiration to make more Monster Features, I will make sure to watch the heck out of those.

I like the Wishlist system but if trading that gives me the fun deviants, decorations and my hunting styles back then I will make that sacrifice to play MHGU. I mean I wouldnt stop playing World but MHGU is the more classic MH game that my brother and I looked forward to playing

I can't say anything about world, since I didn't buy it; or an PS4 for that matter, due to the multiplayer being locked behind a 60$ paywall every fxxxing year, so I just waited patiently for Generations Ultimate. I personally don't see negatives to Gen Ultimate comparing it to Gen, since, really, its on switch, and doesn't steal my progression. More monsters? Hell yeah! Give it to me! Really, its easy for me to decide wether or not I will play Gen Ultimate since I never played world and waited way too long for thisgame to be announced here in germany. The only problem I have with it is the release date, since it just misses the summer break over here in germany.

I think people are off as well. Double cross was/is amazing. Quality of life changes didn’t mean “new game” it meant subtle changes that added to the game without reworking the formula. Me personally? I miss the diversity of MHW armor crafting system but love the way the older system works and how we have more options to fight and situations to fight them in. Plus I love playing as Nyantas. Very much looking forward to the switch release. Also MHW is new. People need to give it time to grow like the previous titles. Not just rereleasing older monsters. Gaijin do you think we will be able to transfer console saves to PC or start fresh when it’s released? Good video as always. Miss hunter video time with ya man!

My opinion? Hasn't really changed. I'm still buying a switch JUST to play Monster Hunter, like I did with my 3DS, Wii, and PSP.
