I really hate the whole "The guy who puts the hunt up only gets the quest done" system. It's an archaic design and it put me off in MH3. MH4. And MHG. It makes me not want to play anymore MH because I hate doing the quest shuffling in lobbies and majority of the time people leave without helping you after you helped them, and it's a huge waste of time.
Yeah I agree completely, this is often why I host and I run a turn for turn based questing, Ofc it starts with me cause those buggers will stay and complete my quest if I'm going to help them! and then I take it in turns as each person enters to complete one of their quests, and sometimes people still leave after their quests but I find I often filter them out quite fast and end up with 3 other reliable hunters who even start to chat and communicate :) they might not always be at your current standard of skill but they stick around and they try hard. Also if we fail we do move on to the next player but I warn them and it applies to my quest too. Try this method it's a dream.
Yeah but I have bad experiences with those kinds of player-chains in later G quests when the quest either isn't a key quest or just too tedious to do. People really don't want to spend their resources but hoard them. And I am too kind that I just stick to another's lobby and just play whatever quest is up. Doing it more for additional loot and money and later on complete the same quests on my own.
It's not that the deviants were too hard. I mean in their own right they were much harder than other monsters but what really killed the generations for me was the fact that you had to host each quest to level it up. It just made it really hard and eventually got to the people who are already at the endgame who wanted to run the level 10 stuff rather than start at one and help people work their way up. It was a really lazy way to add 120 quests to the game.
Nico Morales Guild Quest system was much better imo, and had more variety. But don't get me started on the damn capture quest without items. Made me quit the game everytime.
It was p a i n f u l to craft and upgrade my dreadqueen armor just to level 6 to make it usable cause, not only you have to host the quest to level up and repeating the fight with increasing difficulty, I also had to solo it. Because if it's already difficult to find people that want to hunt niche monsters like dreadqueen, it's even harder if you need to find people that need the same level as you.
deviant quest system suck trash it takes me almost two week to have 5 deviant armor lvl 10 really frustrating hunt a bit fun but mostly frustrating because i have to redo it to change host for next lvl pass or go find lobby that suit your ticket need for armor upgrade
Nico Morales What I hate about the Deviants are the Arena quests for let's say Deviant Arzuros. You have to kill the D.Azuros in the Forlorn Temple while a Zinogre interfers. It's nothing I can do on my own. I either go full tunnel vision on Azuros and ignore Zinogre completely or I try to kill both and have a damn bad time, as well. And Azuros is the easiest of them. Dreadking X is nuts! Two different Deviants, one that kills me with her venom within 45sec if I don't react quick enough!
Honestly, Gen/X and XX are mostly for series veterans that just want to do some extra hunting. Like Gaijin said it's just a filler game. This is why the monsters don't have intro cinematics, they assume most of the players will have battled all the monsters before so they don't really need an introduction. It's really easy to imagine MHGen as just a "pure hunting" game, aka kill monster, craft gear, repeat. Mhgen and XX are not really a good introduction into the MH universe for new players. The biggest thing they added was hunting styles, which is a way to battle the same old monsters on the same old maps without being bored to death. If someone were new to the MH series, I would recommend them 4U, as it has intro cinematics for monsters, and an actual story. MHX is just a big conglomeration of monsters to hunt. By the way, just wanted to note that I am NOT hating on MhGen. I've played FU, P3rd, 3U, 4U, and Gen and enjoyed them all.
To many... ffs I'd prefer a shit tone more then there are in world i mean there's a lot in world but I've always wanted to see more monsters and keep working up the food chain like the WHOLE fucking chain
1:50 "Bludgeoner left in the low and high rank" actually, it's high rank only! There's no armor sets that even offer blunt at low rank. It rubs salt in its own wound. :/
"Don't go into the game expecting new ideas. This is the same game as Monster Hunter Generations, just a lot more of it." This is the case for every single expansion in the series. Monster Hunter G is just Monster Hunter with a new rank and an eventual Wii port. Unite is just F2 but with more monsters and a cat. 3U is just Tri with more monsters, a second cat, and without Loc Lac. 4U is just 4 but with more monsters and actually released outside of Japan.
I think you could make the argument that Iceborne breaks this trend. The clutch claw- while hated by many- is at least a new mechanic. Plus they added a few other minor mechanics such as riding small monsters. Of course, MHW didn't exist when this video was made, so your point still stands.
He meant it more in the sense that generations was made to be a massive collection of non stop action and monsters, and gen ultimate was just more of that. In 4U for example more care was put into having SOME story, and monsters all had ecology cutscenes of them like, pouncing on your hunter for entering their territory.
I just wanna fight the goddamn jet engine dragon, capcom. I also don't personally care about how bad or good certain armor sets or weapons are, if that shit looks cool immah farm the shit out of it and then look fabulous. I recently went back and started soloing Nakarkos just to see if I could, noticed that the Astral armor set actually looks kind of nice, and now I've got 8 more recorded kills of Nakarkos.
CommunistScum 666 Here, man! :D Well technically I was 'born' in Kokoto (MH1 PS2) but I spent most of my hunting life in MHFU, just cause I had awesome friends to play it with. :) I loved that game, THAT much that I finished every single quest, except the Training School ones. And let's face it, it's still the best game in the series. ❤️
I really want to play this game for the Switch! I am considering this being my crash course into learning Japanese honestly. Kind of along the same line as what Rosetta Stone is supposed to do for you. Completely immerse yourself into it and see what happens! It's a thought anyways but. Thanks for the review man!
MHXX is still the best MH so far imo. Yes 4U has better fps, story, scenes, but overall gameplay, XX is just a lot more enjoyable right from the get go. Tho this depends on each player's expectations. What I value most of XX is its gameplay diversity (styles), more toys to play with (arts), less tanky monsters (better for repeat farming), and finally, transmog (no more ugly sets!). If I can only play 1 MH game, I'd pick XX. I'm not much into tankiness of 4U monsters. Tanky suits game like Dark Souls more, you beat the boss, it's difficult, it's long fight, but once you beat it, you don't have to face it again. MH is different, you have to hunt a monster many times to complete his armor. If doing it once is too tedious, no fun to repeatedly do it, esp if your toys are just the same, you cant quickly change styles or arts in between hunts like in XX (and your other weapon types may not be as developed). 4U has longer fights but the monsters are pretty much doing the same thing all those times, no extra stance or anything. It's just all normal-rage-normal-rage-normal-rage-..., same attack patterns in normal, same attack patterns in rage, why repeat it so many times if just same same? No need to be so long imo. Which is why, I prefer XX way of shorter fights. About deviant quest only completes for the poster, I find it alright. The other day, I enter a hub for Hellblade Glavenus, we play from level 1 to 10 in an hour or so. 4 hunters obliterate it so fast. I was under-equipped but there are strong dudes. If mine's also completed to 10, that would be too easy for me. I spend nothing yet already get parts and tickets up to level 10. Fair I think. Besides, completion only need once to unlock next level. No big deal.
I like XX because of "gameplay diversity (styles), more toys to play with (arts), less tanky monsters (better for repeat farming), and finally, transmog (no more ugly sets!)"
It doesn't matter how bad is MHXX. I just respect how they make us entertained by it. I cannot buy MHWorld because I don't have PS4. I wanted to save my money so that i can spend all day playing MHXX or whatever is gonna be the western name so that i save more to play MHWorld. I don't care if i have two games as long as Capcom puts MHXX for the west at anytime. Plus on the other hand, people should stop comparing world and double cross its not cool. I just want what I want that's it. No offense here or rant I'm just being real.
I really hate the drama surrounding CAPCOM's weird release schedules.. It's really THAT fucked up. With MHW announcement they literally spoiled MHXX for millions and millions of people. And those people are not just newcomers or those who never played a MH game before but long time devoted veterans! MHXX has become absolete in so many ways i almost feel bad about not waiting for it that much anymore. I dont own either of the consoles anymore but i guess it will be about if MHW lives up to its hype or not. Get this. Really, the question is: will i get PS4 or Switch by christmas? CAPCOM decides..
For those who are desperate and think we probably won't get it... Well, the probability of getting MHXX for the west aren't that bad... Actually, I read somewhere that there was a Demo of MHXX at the "Japan Expo" in France. (even if the game was in japanese) I mean, what would be the interest in showing people a game they probably won't ever be able to play ? It might seems like nothing like this, but in my opinion, it's another hope for the game coming to the west...
OneDreams54 Capcom wouldn't want to see the X/XX and the main MH team competing at this point in time. People should just be happy that MH Stories is only 2 months away, brand new take in MH, with A LOT of things to do. I'll be satisfied with it until I my get PC + PS4.
+darkhound1999 It seems that it was Nintendo and not Capcom who brought the Demo there... Maybe that Nintendo will do the localisation themselves ? (like for MH-Stories)
For one, I'm glad you made these mentions because not all MH players have the exact same tastes. It's a great way to help understand what you'll get out of this and whether that is in your interest. For me, I really loved Generations, partly for both the Styles (it totally gave a new method to how I approached GS and LBG for so long, for instance) and even the way you can check out all the classic MH towns. My biggest reason is to get Generations where I can play it as a home console as well as portable. The extra stuff is pure gravy to me. It's nice to know what I'll be getting into and even create my own goals based on this knowledge.
Regarding the "main" series, mh4u is just my absolute favourite. Unfortunately i have yet to try the mmorpgs, but damn i love mh4u. it's also one of my fav. games in general.
ectopicEye I doubt your love for MH4U would be replaced by Online. Frontier might come close but its lack of story or any character at all will make it a miss. No need to worry. Have you tried Freedom Unite though? That's my tied favourite with 4U :D
While I am a long time fan of the series (PS2 days, yes I'm that old) I personally could not get into this iteration of it (200hrs) like I did while playing Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate (1000hrs). MH4U just felt polished, improvement on both new and vet player retention and overall longevity as a product. And while I do agree that MHGen was a great starting point for new players I do feel that it just lacked in everything else as well, as you stated in the video including (for me at least) Monster diversity. But alas, since I'm a fan at heart I still support the games/CAPCOM.
Having a huge selection of large monsters is one of my favorite features. I see how it could be annoying finding a room for specific ones when playing with randoms, but if you have a group of friends it's not bad.
As usual, you are right on with your observations. I was discussing the other day why I just don't feel drawn to play past the 300 hour mark in Generations, when I easily exceeded the 600 hour mark on both MH3 and MH4. This video really sums it up. Can't begin to express my enthusiasm for Monster Hunter World, but I truthfully don't think I will pick up XX.
I liked the fact the Gen/X/XX wasn't as intense as the other MH games. It was a lot more cathartic to play, I think. I DO feel that it did a few things right, though. The way the weapon upgrade system worked, and being able to overforge weaker weapons so you could still use them in HR/GR was such a great addition to the series. It really hammered home a sense of personalisation and gave players more goals. I also liked the true raw damage we got in Gen as opposed to the bizarre, inflated numbers of previous titles. I REALLY hope there's an option to swap out those inflated raw values in world with the true ones in MHW.
Really good assessment of this game. I like the honesty about the game's flaws, but acknowledgement that it's still fun. I feel basically the same. Fun game but not groundbreaking. Excellent video (as always) and I look forward to more content related to XX. Maybe a prowler guide or how-to for making strong builds???
Okay, I know this video is old but when you mentioned Hyper Silver Rathalos, it relieved me. That was the worst and most stressful fight I've had in the game, I couldn't stand that thing. It took two of us several tries and about 30 minutes to beat it for the first time only yesterday, and we have to fight it again so I can finish upgrading my armor. It makes me feel less bad that you don't think it's fun either, and I will NOT be fighting any more after I finish with it. DLC Old Fatalis, here I come... ;_;
Too many monsters / quests and too much gear to make is not a problem for me since i pretty much just 100%'d Generations. todo list for Generations (done): 1. cleared every quest: village , offline / online hub, deviants, and events 2. made every event weapons and armor (upgraded weapons and not the armor) 3. planned out my weapon trees to be later upgraded for double cross 4. made a sakura method armor set to casually farm charms in gen for future double cross mix sets I'm obviously one of the "didn't want it to end" group. I love Monster Hunter and each game will never get old for me, i'm even still playing 3U, trying to find a way to solo the horrible "Descent into Hades" event quest.
Thanks for the review, Gaijin. I don't think I understood your point regarding scaling. On the one hand, I understood you to suggest that deviants in G rank are too hard. On the other, a gripe is about G rank being too easy? So... which is it? Anyway, thanks for your vids as always. I've watched most if not all of your vids.
I want it so incredibly bad... I have to say, Aerial Style Dual Blades was the best what ever happened to me in this game. Its okay that styles are not in MHWorld, but then I want XX to have more time with my Aerial Duals. Sigh
I really do hope we get this game for the west too. Honestly my biggest problem with MHGen is the massive overhaul to the weapon upgrade system but I'll just have to get used to it. And the fact that they brought their A game in terms of the new monsters makes me really hope that some of them will return in the future, especially the fated four.
Still much better than World when it comes to content, huge monster roster, gameplay and gear. Plus it has a pause button and no bullshit crossover fights so yea
Most of these criticisms can be applied to 4U as well; I don't understand how people can make these claims that 4U is so much better, besides maybe that most people that follow this channel haven't even played XX.
MHXX has been the most enjoyable MH to me yet. I dont' see how people start shiting on a game, which they haven't played, just from some person's opinion. People like to shit on things on the internet I guess.
@Brian Jing you have played it and enjoyed it, yet you claim haters have not played it because they dislike it...dude..how fucking stupid is that? how do you know they haven't played it??
CatCloud Dude, chill. I've talked to 3 people on Reddit who shat on MHXX and none of them have played the game. You do realise I'm talking about that kind of people, right? Nowhere in my comment says all haters haven't played the game.
4U added new concepts like Apex and weapon honing, plus a new town. But XX added new styles in addition to a new town. XX seems like a business-as-usual G-Rank game to me. Maybe Gaijin's lost a lot more steam on XX than he thought.
Hello, I really appreciate your honest opinions about MHXX, I agree with most of it. I have been soloing MHXX on switch since I got it last month, and now I feel more like exhausted than entertained with this game. I'm kind of not into Deviant system that much since we hardly use much any weapon or armor like we would use Dreadking set / hellblade weapon in gen, and with G-rank, super hunt added into the deviant system ( Grank silverwind is one of the cancer we can take as an example), it's kind of bullshit imo. Another thing i want to talk about is the 4th gen maps ( ancient steppe, v. hollow and f. seaway) I don't talk about how cancer a monster in grank can be but even in highrank, fighting on these maps would really give u a shit ton of frustration. I really like your videos and wish to see more. thank you
Hi Gaijin, very nice intro summary. I haven't played monster hunter after the latest version in PSP because of the awkward view control. In PSP I can put my finger on the (left and right) direction button on top while moving using the stick below. But how do we do that in switch? Or in switch version is there a design that control view as well? Hope you understand me.
Good to hear a youtuber sharing these thoughts. There's something to be said about honesty and many people do also take a well known youtubers opinion as a fact. (and adapth that opinion as theirs) So I def. do hope people slowly start understanding the differences with og MH and Gen and why is it exactly that some people didn't enjoy what Gen offered. But, I also believe that many of should accept the fact that many people really love Gen and not be too hostile when their opinions on things don't match. Gen is a good game, similar to how FF13 was a good game, just not a good Final Fantasy game. Whilst others might disagree with this as well.
Good to hear. Personally, I hype up Monster Hunter games to the extreme, before they come out, conveniently forgetting that as soon as I buy this new game, Japan's gonna whip out this new monster hunter game and I'm gonna be sad. As someone who got into MH from Freedom Unite then working my way backwards, Monster Hunter is a great series. Something about it is just truly appealing. Then hints trailers for 3U came out and I was enamored. Once I logged about 800 hours I saw 4U was in the making and I jumped on that. After logging 1000+ hours on that, MHX had been teased. I ran to Generations so quick, and I fell. It was just not as good as I thought it was going to be. And then I got a bit P.O'd when I saw MHXX was coming out. But I gave myself a break and then flew through Generations quickly finding that love for MH again. Monster Hunter is just a grand series. I've loved having it for portable, but I'll take it on console, or whatever. Thanks for the video Gaijin, I love your content!
MH4U is definitely better than gen and XX. I feel 4U is balanced and polished to an extent XX isn't. I like XX a lot, but it doesn't feel like they spent a lot of time tweaking everything and making sure everything felt just right. It makes sense, honestly. This game is just a little spinoff, so I didn't expect legendary levels of polish.
Even if I started with 4U and then play 3U and FU (I hated this one btw), Generations still is my favorite Monster Hunter by far (I'm still playing it a lot and have lot more hours than the others games). I just find the hunts way more fun with styles and arts... and cats ! (seems I'm the only guy in the world thinking that ^^"") Honestly, all the bad points of XX in this video aren't bad points for me (except maybe the loong deviant farms but Gen made me used of that now). Returning monstres is a cool thing, even if it's come with extra useless sets, I'm more focused on the battles theirs-self and I'll be happy to fight against my favorite monsters from 3U without having to change game. (and with styles&arts) For the Lao Shan Lung, I'm just happy because I never had the chance to fight him so he is a 'new monster' for me (even if he turns out to be boring and if so, I'll do it 1 or 2 times, I consider that as a bonus that I'll be happy for.) And G-rank always was a frustrating mode for me even in old MH xD I can't talk about the one in XX but I think I'll enjoy it more thanks to the sytles&arts ^^ Oh, there's actually a bad point I agree with. The no-story one =/ I'm sad to learn XX won't have one either. I of course not saying that you're wrong in the video (plus, you actually played the game and I didn't so you voice is stronger) but XX seems to be perfect for me and my way of hunting/enjoying MH games.. So I really want XX to the west, because it's a U-version of my favorite MH, it definitively will become my new favorite one. I just need it ! (Plus the fact that I won't be playing World because I don't have any game systems that can run it, I hope XX can be my last MH to end this beautifully if they stop doing MH for Nintendo.) Excellent video btw, thanks for sharing yours thoughts on the game.
Nyu72 "seems I'm the only guy in the world thinking that ^^"""? ^ No man, I've been plyaing MHGen for freakin' 400+ hours which is considered long enough for non G rank game. I agree that Hyper Silver Rathalos (Gold Rathian too, that thing is ugh...) is cancer lol. My only bad point is the fact we're not getting Subspecies to hunt them in new ways with those Arts and Styles. I've played the game this long, and I want to continue my hunt in XX, so it is a little more sporadic for me to play now.
Glad to see I'm not the only one ! =D But even with G-rank, I played 300h for 3U and +700h in 4U... And I did 1100h in Gen in comparison -v- I agree that I would love having more subspecies in it and I didn't search if my favorites one are in XX cause I assumed it would come to us and didn't want to spoil myself the game -v-' (I love the sub-Zamtrios in 4U and the sub-Lagia in 3U who aren't in Gen for exemple... I'd love to try Bushido against the Lucent Nargacuga too xD) But I really think the more is the best when it comes to number of differents monsters in one MH game, subspecies include (and Gen/XX being fanservice tribute games, they're perfect for that too ^^) And.... I don't think Silver Rathalos need to be Hyper to be cancer xD He's the monster that almost made me quit MH back to 4U xD Glad he didn't suceed -v- (But I agree the Hyper is worse, even in HR, I almost don't want to see the G one xD) Really hope we'll get XX...
I appreciate this video a lot. As someone who went into generations completely blind (because I don't want my content spoiled), I was massively disappointed by how slipshod the whole game felt coming from 3U and 4U. It was definitely quantity over quality. If XX doesn't feel like the ultimate version, I'm not bothered about getting it. It would have to do a LOT to win me back.
having played it on a japanese 3ds, I feel it is good. despite not knowing much japanese, this game might not be hard but it has potential to bring in new people that probably couldn't dodge in like say 4u. There is many styles and that means many more options for quests and also opened up stuff like fashion mix with transmog. Which honestly was my dream since 4u. #mhxxforthewest
MLPfluttershy i know this is an old comment, but think of it as the diffetence between adding an entirely new campaign, versus just adding a few new quests. Thats the difference between an expansion and an extension: one expands upon what was there and makes its own thing, while the other just extends gameplay by a few hours.
I liked it alot but with only 150hours i just barely did all the 6star quests. So for me that is pretty much done. And I sure don't have another 200 hours to play to XX. So yeah I would like it but who has the time^^
Dont like gen...stopped playing it long time ago ....I thought I was one of the few. Turns out , there are other many player doesnt like the imbalance OP hunter arts / styles....bored quickly...felt incomplete. level design is not polishesly balanced....and that styles really boring...like playing dynasty monster warrior hunter game.... jumping all the time with aerial style is not fun. Playing the guild style, felt underpowered and then switch to adept/air style and suddenly it become too easy its Unbalance
I like how even tho there's a lot of monster most of the lobbies I join is Malfestio farms and rarely do I find hunts for Hyper or Akantor monsters even deviants I can't find any
This is the first time I've seen legit criticism for this franchise, which I am a fan of and honestly... you've opened my eyes. To be fair I've not put hundreds of hours of time into MHGen like I did with MH3U and MH4U. There were many things I didn't like, including the overabundance of gathering quests, the not-as-good choice of armour skills/combinations and of course, the grindyness of deviants. Though to be fair MH4U had a bit too, in the grindyness of the expeditions/guild quests, which I personally didn't enjoy.
In my honest opinion as a long time vet of the series, I really do prefer Gen Ultimate/XX over worlds at the moment. I felt like there was more character to GenU/XX over Worlds, especially with the styles, arts, weapons, and armor. Granted I don't think either is better than the other, however I prefer more of the systems in the nintendo/psp games over worlds. Design wise especially I really prefer the fact that all the weapons are unique compared to worlds ctrl+c, ctrl+v look to most weapons. The arts and styles were also something that really made a huge difference to me and it makes for playing one weapon in so many different forms that I don't always feel like I'm playing the same weapon sometimes, it makes it refreshing to try different styles with different weapon types , especially when using gunlance because of each shot type and how certain shots gain based off moves, example is using guild for normal shot and striker for long shot. I haven't been that vocal online about it but worlds started to loose interest for me because of the lack of monsters and variety of weapons, the decoration farming, and just doing daily grinds. I've never minded grinds but daily grinds are the worst to me (Also long time warcraft player complaints here). All in all though I feel people should try generations for more of the traditional monster hunter.
I actually love how many monsters and equipments are packed into this game. It's like a conclusion of my entire hunter career, so I don't have to go to different games if I want to relive certain piece of it. My biggest complain is that the greatsword Double Diablos isn't in it. With so many weapons included there's really no excuse to not have it. It's the most dominating and iconic weapon in MHP2G/MHFU, and maybe also in the entire history of the MH series.
Ive read a lot of those comments below and i can only say one thing: its completely optional to get the game. Ive watched many of gaijin's reviews on mh content and i find them really awesome ( not to mention useful). Im a core fan of the monster hunter series and when i played generations all my mind was saying to me was "this is not enough for me." So, after watching those vids about all that new content on XX i felt that its just what i needed. Even if more is less, as long as its longer and keeps me at it its alright to me. Like i said its completely optional for some people and even though mh world is coming out, i will be playing XX (and burn it i will) til it comes out. Thanks gaijinhunter for all your efforts.
It's just a MH game like any other I had the same feeling whenever a new MH game came up, while I was still fed up with the previous one, so... I mean, MH is just hunting, grinding, collecting, rinse n repeat til you get bored to death, what else to expect Also, seriously, a *story*? I've seen better story in Twilight, than in all MH games combined :P
FalKKonE well the story part is that MH has such a rich lore that a real story would be really a ton of fun and super interesting, MH4U tried to implement a story and, while fun, had several shortcomings.
I agree, more cinematic than Generations, and working your way up to fight Shagaru Magala was the most hyped up fight I had. I can't say the same for Nakarkos. And at the moment, i'm picking up MH Tri on my Wii since I don't have a Wii-U to play 3 Ultimate
MH4U had a nice story,at least they tried even MHFU to some extent have a nice (but very simple) story/lore but the 4U one is more *intense* if you know what i mean ;)
nah, 4u's story was just another way to tell you "hey.. boy... go kill this thing, now craft some armor" and the more you play the less sense it made... i still can't believe the ace hunters failed to hunt a low rank gore magala and so on... with every other monster the guild sent them for... but!... it was enough to keep me entetained :3
Brachy Deviant when? Brachy need some love toooo. I'm still going to get it for the Switch I have a big community that I play with every time a new MH title comes out so its fun no matter what b/c we all hunt together marathoning the games helping each other and new hunters to the games :D
While I understand your complaints I'm curious about the one concerning armor because, personally, I feel that that has always been the case. It's Frustrating that the End Boss armor is the ultimate armor to chase after but when have most armors ever been worth chasing? I'm going through Gen fresh again because I got a new 3DS and at no point do I have any desire to make or wear Legombi's armor for example when I could just make the mix set or use Tetsu's armor instead. Frankly I fee like I'm wasiting my time on MH now after not being able to play it for so long then tryinig to pick it up from scratch.
I agree with most of what you're saying except story. MH doesn't need a storyline, it needs solid background exposition. It perfectly worked from MHF2 to MHP3rd, even 3U. The MH background is so rich, it doesn't need a superficial story. Furthermore it doesn't add with the hunting game style because you can do the quests in whatever order so the narration has no rythm. MH4U had a story and it just felt forced and sooooo boring to me. I just wanted to skip that whole amount of useless blabla and start playing. Fortunately, with the little things we know about MHW the game isn't too much story-based and that is good.
I think it needs lore, not story. It would be nice if the story mode shows off what a monster does, when it's not fighting you. It could interact with other monsters, Protect them or hunt them, or interact with the environment.
Yami Magister I slipped every line of dialogue in world. Only watch the cool monster cutscenes. The story is worthless and not very good. Gameplay though...
The Flash Well. The story is pretty much in line with other Capcom games. They are short and not so deep. Their main focus is gameplay which is what I love about Capcom since NES days. When Square Enix tried to focus too much on story with FFXIII the game become linear and tedious for a while. I want Japanese developers to focus on gameplay and not go in the trap of Western devs again. When we see Knack from Japan Studio I see trouble. Story based action platformer is a mess. Forgot about the fun with first Ape Escape game which had like a minimal story as a Super Mario game with fun gameplay. More Japanese developers should learn from MHW and Zelda BOTW.
This is a rather subtle way to say "you're not missing out on much" I'm pretty sure everyone that has been begging Capcom for a western version know exactly what to expect with this game. Happened with freedom 2/unite and tri/3U. I really wanted monster hunter on the switch and XX, even though it was a port, made me happy. But apparently it was not meant to be. I am indirectly divided by monster hunter world. I have the means to get it, but I love the portability of monster hunter. I cannot physically put the hours into the franchise I do on a console/PC only game. I learned that with 3U where my 3DS version play time was three times the amount the wiiU version. If World was coming to the switch as well, I wouldn't have a problem but this community split that capcom has created is near EA levels of bullshittery. World looks like it'll be a good game dont get me wrong. But I hate it with a passion for being on everything but my most accessible platform and that it has ruined the release of a monster hunter game I know I will enjoy (i'm still on the fence of some of Worlds features). So yes, i'm salty. But i'm fed up with capcoms business choices. I was looking forward to XX and couldnt really care less about the faults listed so i'll likely get the JP version but seriously, shame on capcom for what they have done.
BlaizeTheDragon Can't blame Capcom for trying something new and getting more people in the West into MH. If you REALLY wanna play XX... you can. I agree with the fact that with Monster Hunter World, Capcom just lost MH's portability factor. But yet again, they're trying something NEW. If World doesn't end up being has sucessful as they thought it would in the future, they WILL return to portable consoles in no time. You'll see.
ShadowBlazero "I wouldn't have a problem but this community split that capcom has created is near EA levels of bullshittery." "i'm fed up with capcoms business choices. I was looking forward to XX and couldnt really care less about the faults listed" I don't think the point against Capcom is because they are trying something new.
Yeah, being on a portable is what sold MH for me... I've tried MH on PS2 but games with a lot of grinding and RPGs I really prefer to play on handhelds as I can play them (back then) during lunchbreaks and on the bed before sleeping... My friends and I also hunt together every weekends and still play local co-op up to this day whenever we meet up... I will still get MHWorld but for the PC since I'll be building a new one, my current PC is 7 years old now and my HDD is about to die... I'll definitely miss playing side by side with my buddies though, yes we can play together online but it's just not the same... Here's to hoping that MHWorld succeeds even though it's on a non-handheld platform and that Capcom at the very least localize MHXX Switch/3DS...
While Monster Hunter does seem to be very fitting to portable devices, the limits on those are quite low. Going on current gen consoles gives them much more to work with and create a more fun and beautiful experience in a Monster Hunter game.
personally one of the things i like from the game is that "monsters are too fast" i really enjoy that feeling of panic, trying to scape from a certain death (hyper silver los is NOT included) that's also why i love Brave style. it pushes that frenetic feeling even further. i'm not going to say that XX is super good game, but dude, i had a ton of fun and satisfaction with it!
Big fan of GS, I really love the different playstyle in MHXX. Brave style makes GS and absolute blast to play and the seathing parry is very nice as well. Playing GS in MHXX is definitely a different experience than MH4 or X. I really enjoy playing MHXX. Being able to crouching charge attack followed by a golf swing is just so good.
I like Brave GS too! My favourite is Brave Longsword though. It's a weapon that looks super easy but is very hard to master or perform consistenly well.
Don't agree with what you said about Lao shan Lon. I enjoy the fight more so than before, and it was fun for me before. I especially love the weapons and armour from it, particularly the Yumi
I agree. I mean, many old school fans like me wanted to have Lao back so desperately. and considering we exoplored first gens village, second gen village and old maps... I was just hoping they finally reveal him in Cross with every update they brought out. Especially knowing they brought back Amatsumagatsushi
Of course i respect older MH titles, if not for then MHXX not so good the way it is, but in fact the MH game that have revolutioned the series was MHTri and yet is the most underrated just because fanboysm and the lack of skill of the players about underwater battles. If sony didn't screw back then and MHTri was launched on PS3 ppl was certain idolize MHTri for sure and underwater battles. That's for sure
Its interesting that Gaijin says there are now too many monster in this game. Thats honestly what I was most excited for. MHXX has one of the best endgame monster rosters of any game. If its a good monster, this game basically has it (with the exception of like Miralis and Gogmazious and some older monsters). And thats why I play MH, for the pretty armors and the epic monsters. I do understand that there just aren't enough people trying to do each monster to make them viable to farm sometimes, but I play with friends mostly so that doesn't bother me. As a side note, I really enjoyed the Deviant monsters. I grinded my way for like 6 of their sets and didn't get too tired of them (except dreadking for some reason).
Even it's not localized, we can still import/eshop in Japanese since the Switch is region free. Trust me, the game is fully playable in Japanese thanks to great ressources on the internet. Now, i can understand you don't want to begin a new save.
I think that until world comes out, we can forget about it. It would be competing titles whereas they want to put the focus on world. But I think that we could get it a little after world comes out.
Thats my problem, generations was the mh i put less-hours because i got "bored" fast, but if this game came out was going to play it for sure.. but only if i can export my save with all the tedious things already done, just to enjoy g rank from the start. So importing the game is out of the question for me :/
My honest opinion to MHXX... Get the dang English ver out like RIGHT NOW damn it... There about 8 month left before MHW came... I only have 8 month to hunt MHXX...
Erwan Play Games You DON'T need to know Japanese to play the damn game. Buy a Switch and import it. There's A LOT of info regarding MHXX online that will help you play the game and understand everything you need to know and do without much effort.
I was initially in the list of suckers that would buy it anyways because i would finally get to hunt with people i know. But now that MH:W was announced and Mohun is back home and actually upgrading instead of iterating i'll finally get to not begrudgingly fork over my money to Nintendo.
I can agree with your opinion, but some of those reason for me can be good, fast monster can be a good challenge to improve evasion and with the powerful weapons, I can be challenged to use weaker weapons for a good challenge, and with the popular armors and monsters, I can try using other armors for uniqueness.
It's not like 4U doesn't have massive flaws of its own. The entire guild quest system, the mediocre maps, and the laughably bad weapon balance make the game a 7/10 at best in my eyes. It still manages to be the best MH game somehow.
The amount of people calling Gaijin a shill or sell-out for giving XX any type of criticism is hilarious . I'll admit that while Gen was a fun ass game and XX looks awesome i am a bit burnt out, and agree with most of the problems gaijin had with Gen, the biggest for me was the recycling of returning monsters with nothing new added. And i just want something NEW so yeah XX fanboys don't give me shit just because i can't help being more excited for a brand new 5th gen game built from the ground up than an expansion pack, i'm still gonna play the shit out of XX when it gets localized tho..
Jess Araujo The only reason why I would want to play XX is simply Valphalk. That was until the demo was revealed so...yeah I’m probs not gonna buy XX even if it was localized.
G Quests are hard in XX? Zenith Monsters are way worse in Frontier. But again, no matter the flaws, I prefer to get MHXX over MH:World because of the following reasons: I just can't afford to buy a PS4, XBoxOne for just one game I'm interested. But if I manage to get a very good gamer pc, I will think about getting MH:W altough I would be more happier if it would come out on the Switch.
I don't think you need that much of a "very good gamer PC", capcom will hopefully manage to give us everything from very low settings for the low end, to very high ultra settings for the high end users. If you already have an "okay PC" today I wouldn't be suprised if it ran just fine, I'd suggest waiting for it though.
I have the luck to have a brand new Gaming PC, so it will be PC version for me, its ok to wait. Now, i don't want to debate on what is cheap and what is expensive, but on my side, you can get a used PS4 for like 130-140$, meaning you can get MHWorld for 200$. Yeah, its expansive. Now the PS4 has also plenty of other good games.
i personally wont get it because selling an expansion at full price is a huge rip off imo. i really dont know why mh fans let this pass so easily. if there was the option to upgrade from cross to double cross for lets say 15 or 20$ id probably buy it though
I own a switch, i own XX on 3DS and i will buy the switch version. But i'm more a MH fanboy than a switch one... and tbh, i"m asked to play MHXX on 3DS or on Switch... i take the better version. Don't care if it cost me 45$ one more time, it will be well invested into MHWorld
It's an old video, but still watched it to see your thoughts about GU and i must say, you pretty much nailed everything that i like and absolutely hate about this game
Sounds like any Mh game if you ask me, which means I'm buying it, and once again I'm gonna play it solo because that's the only way I'm enjoying Mh nowadays (and sometimes local multiplayer I guess)
why would people expect anything different than gen? i hope this spinoff series continues for the switch, then they refine it in MHXX2Ultimate :) it was a great transition from 4U to Gen and will always be my most favorite MH experience ever since the PS days. Now when MHW comes out, I can feel like I finished a great book, and move on to other titles
I was fighting Ahtal-Ka on my own before hunting it with other hunters, just so i would know what to do. I ended up killing it by myself somehow and it was the most fun thing i did in this game. I think this game still has what the other games had, you just need to "customize" your experience to your liking.
Mhw and mhxx divided the community... Mhw: gotta make a plan to kill that monster... Mhxx: YOLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I'm with mhxx becuz mhw doesn't looks like a mh game .-. also where is the fockin blood in mhw
Seriously tho, for me MHW feels like it captures more MH essence than Generations did, gameplay wise. I believe if they had 8th-gen console technical power back then, The original MH would have been more exploration and tactic-focused like World than this action-packed gimmick-laden spin-off, tough not westernized. Generations felt like it's coming too close to Devil May Cry or even KT's Warriors series. Rhyming with Gaijin, not many hunts last long in Generations, even if there is, it's probably from the Deviants which are isolated contents. This game allows you to punish a wide roster of monsters old and new with edgy moves and powerful finishers, but then there's not much beyond it, even basic pre-quest preparations that could define success and failure in the previous installment felt like didn't matter, especially if you have 3 allies with overpowering combination of loadout and style. Many contents in the game are obsolete and unlike FU, even novelty items are not fun to collect, there's just no inclination to immerse myself with majority of the content and explore (MH World on the other hand was very successful on this matter by making exploration necessary to broaden your vital gaming options). MH Gen might have assembled a huge list of monsters from MH history, ironically, the way the game is presented is not how I remember Monster Hunter.
If you liked MHGen there is only really one reason not to buy MHXX (and that's a BIG one imo), which is that you HAVE to start a new gamefile since you can't convert your MHGen safegame to XX... I'm not getting XX either even though I really wanna play it but doing all the arbitrary stuff (like getting the Hayabusa feather, grinding all Deviants again etc) again just doesn't appeal to me unfortunately
GoldenArrow Please note that there are tons of people playing XX right now, spending triple and more time on it than Gaijin Hunter did. The game is still getting a lot of love. There are other hunter channels that express a more well rounded view. Don't let one man change your opinion of anything.
I like the way that you spoke about it ! But, in my opinion, X and XX broke the spirit of the Monster Hunter Series so hard that i am actually almost sad to play it. But I do play it (about 600h played on Generation) because i'm a hunter ! That was the feeling that i had in 4u with all the cutscenes that makes you understand the significance of your win ! When Dundorma was attacked by the Gogma, the Dah'ren Mohran who makes sandstorm near Loc Lac, etc. It makes you so important, so unique with the title of "hunter of the caravan" that i almost dropped a tear when i killed the Shagaru ! 4u made me dream to be a hunter ! Generation/X/XX only offered a broken gameplay, funny, but so easy that i didnt feel the reward for killing my monster. And it's only getting worst with brave bullshit ! I tilt so much when i discover a new mob with his fake cutscene... Because of MhGen/X, i'm dont dream anymore, and that's sad because i used to dream so much with 4u. I hope i'll dream again with World. SORRY FOR MY ENGLISH MATES, LOVE.
I basically only stopped playing Generations (my favorite in the series) because XX was announced, and I didn't want to burn myself out of it before I could play the definitive version (especially since I was sure it would come out on the Switch). Little did I know they would not bring it at all in the hope to not dilute the brand when pushing the next game. Ugh.
