I really wanted to like prowler in generations, but i just couldn't wrap my head around the abilities and different cats. The Beast cat seems so awesome and varied with what you can do. I'm really hoping you do more stuff talking about how to utilize the cats, because i would definitely appreciate it.
Just wanted to take a moment and say thank you. If it wasn’t for your videos I wouldn’t have gotten into MH a few years ago. Great info and your videos are always good. Keep it up!
Beast Prowler is probably some of the most fun I've had in any MH game! It may be on the weaker side, but holy hell is it awesome to play!!!! I'd love to see more content on them specifically!!!! Keep on the good work Gaijin!!!!
Austin Dirks agreed, tried it yesterday on the demo and going from the mobility compared to hunters and skills, plus the combos and all really gives the game a fresher feeling
@DigiFox They got nerfed a bit compared to Generations so they're in the lower tier in damage for weapon types, but dont let that stop you!! I played the vast majority of XX with my beast prowler, got to G2 before I stopped playing because GenU was announced! It may be slower to start out in the beginning with prowlers, namely beast, as you wont have any of the cool fancy skills/abilities unlocked, however. I'd just try it, and go from there tho!! I'd recommend some certain skills, however I'm not sure what they're translated for English as.. theres an evade up skill which helps A LOT with the beast cats backflip. Attack up is also a good skill to have! Theres also a couple of unique skills that (I believe.. been a while) increases the damage of Beast mode, and theres another one that either increases the duration, or reduces the cost to enter BM.. cant remember which one it is. Both are nice to have! Good luck, and have fun!!!!!!
Beast Prowler looks like A LOT of fun! I'm definitely going to try that one out, and maybe the bombing Prowler too. Thanks for this guide, GaijinHunter! I can't wait for your guide on the Insect Glaive!
Thanks, this guide was super helpful to understand the car mechanics. Currently having a blast with GU, it's actually really chill and evergreen with the content n gameplay. Happy prowling y'all 😸
down special barrel bomb which you can either throw or get blown up when someone hits it, up special the twirling spin air attack(multi hit), side special forward is a vault off the opponent even if they shield ( has a few invincibility frames) side special is the protect prowler adept guard into counter when hit. neutral special is boomerang. Nair is the aerial spin but only one hit, fair is the ledge jump attack. up air is the hit in the combo before the final jump spin, back air will have to be something new i can't think of a move to use, maybe a beast prowler move. down air. jab will be the normal combo but with the boomerang finish. forward smash can be the lunge attack after boomerang throw. that's all i got for now. of course they could also go with monster hunter like controls and mechanics like ryu had. also shakalakas as echoes??? cha-cha and kayamba as skins(a similar skin set up to olimar and alph) would be awesome. but after the rathalos map reveal i can't not see them adding it. (ADDING MY NEW MAIN IF ITS TRUE... legit my mains now are all fire emblem but everytime i want a FE game I see a monster hunter game and get it instead. fates got beat by gen, echoes got beat by stories hype and awakening got beat by 3u years ago then stories last week. no regrets. monster hunter is gonna beat them in smash too i know it.)
Kosmos hunters are too varied in design by comparison. Unless they plan on giving us one of the ones from the mangas, or one of the npc hunters we never see fight in game.
I remember back then that I thought Prowler was a joke, only good for gathering quests. Been playing with them almost completely in XX, on rare occasions I'll switch to Hunter. (some monsters I can't handle as Prowler...) Not sure what my favorite type is, though. I do like how Fight let's you do Aerial attacks like crazy while enraged. lol
Big+Pierce is still meta for boomerang cats (you really dont want to use basic boomerangs), but Mega Boomerang got buffed and is now an amazing special attack that really pays off if you can use it properly.
thank you, gaijin. you rekindled my desire to play MHGU, because i was not really sure anymore if i'd like to play another MH again, after MHW. your video made me remember how much i loved the prowler gameplay and how excited i was for the new changes to the prowler system.
I think the reason they lowered Prowler attack values is that, with the much higher gauge buildup and SP mode, they want us to be doing damage through active skills and not by buffing up and doing regular attacks. Hence the Mega Boomerang buff and... Did Claw Dance or any other melee support skill get buffed...?
Oh thank you been holding on to this old mh game and have never figured out how or when to go prowler mode on certain hunts thank you this helped a lot 👍
thanks so much for all the videos! I love adept style and learning that some of the cats can do it too is a game changer! (also thanks for the tutorial videos, made me try out great sword adept style and this is my favorite thing ever).
I'm playing my cat as bomb thrower. Atm I'm in the level 35 max level range, and village quests 9 stars. I easy win every quest with my style. I use the 0 points bomb throw skill (don't know English skill names), the 4 points giant bomb, the 1 points healing roll, the 1 points healing pot (this headgear aoe heal skill), 2 points deamon horn and a 4 points shock trap. My playstyle is throwing all the time the 0 points bomb (not the mini bomb) and dodging with instant dodges. When I get hurt I have the 30 seconds aoe heal headgear. When I get poisoned or anything else I have that 1 points healing roll skill. Most enemy's doesn't survive much more than 4 giant bombs. Often I catch them for lols and because I can. Fighting with bombs gives you around 2 points for 5 hits with it. If you hit multiple targets your points load even faster. Deamon horn is only for friends because it doesn't affect my bomb damage. For food I take most of the time defense +2 or fire (increases bomb damage) I wondered that you only used melee and boomerang.
It would of been so cool if they gave the palicos different movesets for cutting and blunt weapons, I even think they could of given a new third weapon called boomeranger that focuses on boomerangs for damage.
I got the sense from the demo that the go to combo for fighter cats might be x/a+x+x/a into a vault to reset. Basically just furrious finisher spam, the vault only being used to keep the damage flowing. It's just a super big commitment, and weapon upgrade plus ferrocious is a pretty big ask to maintain.
I find charisma cats quite effective, just not as a prowler. I never set a heal cat as my palico because I never need that much healing. The charisma cat's buffs and increased aggression however, are welcome additions.
Not gonna lie, when I heard about the base stat nerf, I was a bit upset, just because I love playing prowlers casually. But seeing that they're still viable with some extra doin has me more excited than before. Here's to hoping I get a good build for a heal cat.
The bombing cat looks really fun to use. I barely used any other cat besides my collect cat in XX because I didn't know how to use them or which skills to look out for but I'll use more types when GU comes out.
Thank you for showing some prowler gameplay. I tried to play some melee build in gen but... yeah, it was not really good back then, and boomrang was not the most thrilling thing, specially when you were already playing a lot of hbg. Looks like they added a lot more defensive options for prowler in gen u (like the adept bomb dodge, the backflip with evasion +1, the perfect guard...) which enabled a lot more stuff. Also, do you still need to "farm" cat forever until finally finding one with decent abilities or are you a bit more free to change their abilities this time?
one of my fav skills was the soothing roll the first time i used it was against the armodillo (the azuros clone) and it is just soooo cute to see the cat rolling like a ball :p
I don't know what to do?! Playing the demo I like Alchemy as a switch blade user, but I'm in love with beast palico it's so much fun. I don't know which one to main.
To be honest, Guard and Bomber Cat would most likely beat the Gathering cat in dmg because how many times can you actually hit a 3rd boomerang without having to dodge. Charisma cat is imo a status/support cat. You take stun skills. Support skills, traps and you lock the monster down while buffing your team up.
I've been using the Protection Cat int he MHGU demo and I think it's a really fun alternative to just boomerang spamming (not that I don't also use boomerangs though). You can just go crazy and stick to the monster all day and Adept Guard / Taunt EVERYTHING. :D
Clockwork I love useing healer cat. Most cats lack healing options. And im useful to my teammates. And some healers have buff horns so they like hh with healing melodies. You can say that HH is better but they are not the same. I like both but i played a lot more with HH because it was early weapon in the series. And playable cats are only since mhgen so i like to learn how to play them. So in summary i like the healer cat most. Valor DB and LS are great to play. Also i enjoy alchemy HH. To be ultra support. I like in this game that you are always dps. Dodge dps, defense dps, support dps, healer dps, long range dps. I love this game for that. You are always usefull with everyweapon.
Tomek L Healer Cats are definitely much more appealing now too. That triple boomerang and faster gauge boost really switches things up. Not to mention... even normal buff horns get that extra herb toot for Healer Cats (at least Cheer Horn does in the demo). It's not much, but it's still nifty. :)
Clockwork best thing is that you can play „offline” and do one hunter two cats team for fun :D one healer one support. Belive me its great fun with friends :P.
Hey, i'm fairly new to the whole monster hunter game, i play world on PC (my first monster hunter). I absolutely love it to death, and i am about to pick this one up as well. I know World is made user friendly n stuff easier to get in to. But i wanted to know what it means when your cats get the icon when they are mad or what ever >.< what kind of buff or debuff is it?
hey gaijinhunter, i have some questions about prowler, you could make me very happy if u can answer, i cant find anything on the web: 1. question: have u got a list of all cattype stats without eq on lvl 99 2. question: i have mhgu not mhxx and there i cant find the skill weakness exploit yet, is it an event cat, and if it is one, when will it come to the west? 3. question, can u link or show us any sorce where to find what cat skills rly do in mhgu, like wolrds strongest and range+ were nerfed, but where are the real numbers? i rly hope you can help me :D btw i am a big fan and after 620h mhg i am glad to have mhgu now, i was a prowler main too and i wanna go on👍
Is it at all possible to play as a prowler from beginning to end in this game? Excluding G-rank because I know nothing of the other games aside from world :^)
Hi Gaijin my favorite cat of yours is Yuna. What armor is your cat using on yuna? I hope that I can get this cat when the game comes out. My plan is to use cats more in gen u. They look really good in this game than gen. I hardly used cats in gen. :/
I like protection prowlers. I personally sactifice the Pierce boomerang in favor of armor horn, because I Love playing support and defending my team mates.
Funny you posted his when I'm trying to get A rank on the prowler arena quests solo. Just need that last one with the dromes and that Barrage Earing is mine.
Gotta preface my question with a wholesome comment; absolutely great video, very informative and interesting. I'm coming fresh from generations with almost no playtime on prowler (seemed like a bit much to get into with all the skills and whatnot), and seeing all the new additions they have like adept dodging and whatnot makes it seem even more interesting to me. However, I've heard a lot of bad things that sort of off-put me from trying these little guys out like I wanted to. Is it true they've been badly nerfed? That they don't get any stronger than high rank, even with the new level 99 cap? I was really sad to hear this, as I've been wanting to use them primarily (I'm soooo tired of hunters tbh). Sorry for the wall o' text, tl;dr great vidya and wondering if prowlers were as nerfed as people say in MHXX thanks man
Im only using the Link palico (zelda dlc palico) and best thing about him is he can throw big boomerangs and his poison trap! This allows me to be attacker or supporter as i wish...
Thank god i can play prowler on a console cause playing prowler/adept DB for hours on 3ds felt like my control stick was gonna break akin to 3ds smash bros were lotta sticks were broken
in the gen u demo I did discover the magic that is the bombing prowler, he is my fav out of all the gen u demo prowlers, of course I'll go back to my lame fighting prowler once I get the full game
Yeah. Even after watching the video a second time, I'm completely lost. I hope you do a Prowler guide like you're doing the other weapons. I'm a first time Generations player, trying to start out with Prowler (and coming from World). I just want to be able to use Prowler and be competent with it. Not getting kicked from rooms because Prowler isn't viable (I'm already arguing with a friend about wanting to use Prowler from the get go.)
I feel like the prowlers you didnt mention are more based around Helping you solo because PERSONALLY the trap cat has helped me catch sooo many monsters (including when I used Both My traps ineffectively) and the charisma cats keeps any other cat from panicking during battle which sucks because it makes them useless until they lose the fear or are hit.
You can have your charisma palico teach others slacker slap too. I see literally every time I go to gather something one pimp slapping the other out of a nap.
Hi Gaijin Hunter! First of all, I enjoy your videoes immensely. Secondly, following the announcement of MH RISE I decided to invest in a Nintendo Switch and buy this game. I love prowlers! They were my main weapon in MH Gen. Therefore I was wondering, if you would be willing to share with me the prowlers you displayed in this video? It would be greatly appreciated!
I never cared for using prowler, so i went back to it & fought a 6* rajang and actually kicked his ass pretty quickly, I was surprised, maybe I’ll start using prowler more 👍
I'm gonna expand my cat army with some Bomb Prowlers, that adept evade looks sweet! And if the Soothing Roll kinda matches Emergency Retreat, using Healing cats agressively it's safer than ever! I can't wait to test all of them in my own save data, the demo is terrible with the set ups indeed xD
