I recall making a perfect outlet pass from behind my own net, I fired the puck at a perfect about 45° angle into the boards, the puck deflected perfectly just ahead of my teammate breaking inward from about the faceoff dot. He gathered the puck without a break in stride for a high percentage breakaway!!! It felt great!!
Hey MHH, I always love your videos, but I gotta say this one was a weak one. What part of the boards do I use to make an indirect pass? What about a cross-ice weak side pass off the boards? How should I position myself to make a sharp angle indirect pass? How would this apply to a strong side breakout along the boards? I see your positioning in the video, but I'd like to know more about what should go through your head when making those indirect board passes.
If there is a clear lane to your teammate, pass directly. If there is no lane to your teammate, use the boards. The guy can't lay out every possible scenario for you and what to do, it's hockey not blackjack. Also every rink's boards play differently, so you're gonna have to figure it out.
