In this 10th episode concerning the name/title 'MHMD' Mel now introduces a new angle for this name, suggesting that there may be even Jewish antecedents to this name/title.
He notes that the leader for the Jews in the 7th century, both religiously and politically, was known as the 'Exilarch', since, the belief went, God's presence was with him. And in the 7th century the Exilarch lived in what is today Baghdad, Iraq, so a good way up north.
Salman al Farsi was a Jew who is referred to in the Islamic traditions as a Persian Zoroastrian religious scholar and one of the companions of Muhammad, known as a very knowledgeable man, who was involved in many debates and religious discussions, and was responsible for translating the Qur'an into Persian (or Parsi) just after Muhammad's death.
This warrants a question concerning where it is today, along with the 5 Arabic copies of the Qur'an commissioned by Uthman in 652 AD and sent to 5 cities for safekeeping...yet, all of them are lost, suggesting that the 7th century Muslims either were inept, or that none of these Qur'ans existed that early...I would suggest the latter.
So, the question Mel asks is where did Salman al Farsi get his name from?
Jews after the destruction of Jerusalem and the temple in 70 AD fled to the diaspora, but the religious Pharisees and the Sadducees didn't die at that time, but fled with them, and then dispersed, and were responsible for writing the Babylonian Talmud.
The name Pharisee in Aramaic is 'Parsa', which meant "the separated ones".
So, Mel asks, did the Jewish Pharisees and not the Persians start the Arab rebellion of the 7th century?
So, who exactly was Salman al Farsi, the companion of Muhammad in the 7th century (according to the Standard Islamic Narrative)?
To understand who he is, according to Mel, we need to understand that the Islam we have today was derived from 4 groups; the Byzantines, the Persians, the Jews, and the Arabs.
When we return to 614 AD we find Hanamel , who was the 37th Exilarch, who along with the Persians massacred many Christians, which was answered by the Byzantines with the persecution of the Jews.
Shallum (taken from 'shalom' meaning 'peace' in Hebrew), was the next Exilarch in Baghdad (from 614 - 640). His name is also from 'Solomon' which means 'safe/secure/whole'. So Shallum was the precursor for the name 'Salman' in Arabic, and Al Farsi was also known as Salman Al Farsi.
This name is backed up by a Chinese source 'Jiu Tang Shu' who wrote in 945 AD that "A Persian (taken from the word 'Pharisee', thus a Jew) was a man herding camels (the Chinese reference to Arabs) in the mountain of 'Ju-fen' (which was Chinese for Kufa, in Iraq) Mo-Di-na (the Chinese for Medina, or city)."
So, in conclusion, Mel suggests that there was chain of Muhammads from 70 AD on-wards, until 614 AD, which were they considered by the Jews as 'Messianic' figures, who are the Exilarchs, the authority for the Jews in that part of the world and at that time.
This Exilarch is also referred to in the Qur'an, but more of that in the next segment.
