I translated the whole video for the English speakers. ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー I tried out the insect glaive at TGS, so I'll explain some of its specifications as far as I understand them. [Assumption] This time your moveset will not change with only red extract, and you'll have to gather all 3 in order to do so. Please keep in mind that I will be explaining the unenhanced state here in the camp. - Moving in Focus Mode - Repeatedly pressing circle is exactly like before, and the angle of attack hasn't changed in or out of focus mode. While pressing the button for focus mode, if you tilt left or right while attacking, you perform the new sidestep slash. Sidestep slash > Sidestep slash combo > Double slash > Dodge slash Since you can adjust your position, you seem to have a lot of freedom. Have a look at how well you can avoid attacks by using this new technique. 1:07 As you can see, these sidestep slashes are convenient as maneuvering tools. From here, you can do a leaping slash into a tornado slash. Furthermore, you can do an dodge slash in focus mode at any time. (outside of a combo) - Kinsect Actions - Manipulating the kinsect (R2+Triangle or Circle) is the same as in Rise. While in focus mode, the kinsect will attack together with you, similar to Rise's assist type kinsects. Also, after the kinsect attacks in focus mode, it will not be able to attack again until it has reattached to your arm, UNLESS you have all 3 extracts, wherein it will attack with every attack you do no matter what, like in Rise. Learning the trajectory of the kinsect while in focus mode might be a little difficult until you get used to it. Getting the extract I was aiming for in the demo was hard. (small monster, probably much easier as they get bigger) Take note that if the kinsect is flying around on its own, it won't attack with you. If you hold R2+Triangle and release, you will do a charged kinsect shot, similar to what you could do in MH4. The kinsect will collect 3 extracts from the areas it passed through. Also, this time you can see what extract will be gathered from the part you're aiming at. Kinsect attacks in focus mode are actually quite fast. It's only the first kinsect we've seen, so there might be a lot of possibilities. Focus attacks on weakpoints will also collect extracts from every part they pass through. It seems like there's a bonus if you break multiple parts (I assume he means weakpoints) at once. The kinsect will even attack with you during the jumping slash. - Power Descending Slash and Thrust - By holding circle when on the ground, you can use strong descending slash. The maximum power isn't known, but it can branch into the rising spiral slash and more. Also, the descending thrust this time is a little difficult to do until you get used to it. It might take some practice. (again, probably just because chatacabra is really small) You can also charge the descending thrust by holding circle while in the air. What's more, the glaive will glow when the charging is finished. This is the sign that the attack is ready, so be sure to pay attention to it. Also, this time the descending thrust can be done out of the strong jumping advancing slash. (the helicopter) Furthermore, the flying circular slash has been enhanced. Previously, thrusts or insect cancelling were the preferred followup, but now the number of choices is increasing due to the addition of more combos. - Other Unverified Moves - The mounting finisher: I'll keep this here as reference material. this is a very helpful video, thank you! something to note about the new charged circle attacks is that it seems like they can be used during another move's animation! for example, if you hold circle to charge a power descending thrust during an aerial strong jumping advancing slash, releasing circle will cause you to quickly transition into the power descending thrust attack and cancel the remaining strong jumping advancing slash animation. this seems like it will be very useful for positioning ourselves optimally for our charged attacks!

I am actually happy the aerial bouncing attack has been removed. I liked how the weapon plays more on the ground like in MH4G and only uses jump attacks for mounting/escaping.
Why does this make you happy? Because others now have to play how you do? It provides 0 real benefit to you. If you like how it plays more on the ground, nothing has ever stopped you or hindered you there. Vaulting Dance especially has not affected the grounded combat hardly if at all.
@@princetbug I am happy because the weapon that I like plays the way I like to play it, yes. If my opinion makes you unhappy, go argue with Capcom about it, though they clearly made their decision on how the weapon should be played. Oh, and I’m also glad I don’t have to see people helicoptering around doing pitiful damage and barely contributing to a hunt. That too.
@@kingkamina4953 You totally missed my point. I have no issue with you liking how it plays. If they're going to make that decision, then they are making a huge mistake by not including something for those aerial players. In that case, their playerbase has said "wow, we like this! can you do more with it?", to which they've replied "no, your kind of fun is not allowed" It's that last part of what you just said that is bad. It's based on an assumption, and resentful at best. There is no reason that isn't based in hating other people that you would be *happy* about its removal. Again, vaulting dance or not, you can play just how you want to without issue.
@@princetbug I see what you’re saying, and I don’t mean to sound resentful, but unfortunately I think Capcom just doesn’t see the weapon the same way as most of the players do. I think their vision for it was always a weapon that combines its attacks in tandem with that of the kinsect first, aerial fighter second. There have been things like aerial style or aerial vault that have altered that have focused on the glaive’s air capabilities, but I personally don’t think Capcom envisioned aerial vault to be used as many ended up using it, turning it into a core part of the weapon, rather than just a few more options in the air. I guess I can see your point that maybe if they improved aerial vault and made it more viable rather than just taking it away, I’d have no issue whatsoever with it not only being in the game but also used widely by IG users. However, as someone who’s had to see their main weapon (LS) go through many changes that I do not like at all over the last generation, this is literally just how MH is, and for anyone who started with World and is salty about move set changes like this, it’s just what it is and it’s probably better to just get used to it
@@kingkamina4953 At least for LS, it has for the vast majority received upgrades and conveniences, not active removals of an entire different playstyle for the weapon. Even as far as the modern counter style goes, LS's expected (and thus strongest) playstyle has greatly changed but the old ways are still available. Same for Bow, and GreatSword. This is really all we're asking for. Even if the aerial style end up crap damage. That's manageable, literally not being able to have it function isn't. In the other weapon's cases, they recieved new options that outpaced the old ones, while the old options have stayed pretty much entirely up to now. With IG, it's more than just outpacing old options, it's removing one entirely that an actually rather popular playstyle relies upon. And before it comes up as well, while Rise is a good example of what *could* be, I don't think anyone who expected the full wirebug kit would return had any kind of reasonable expectation. At most I had hoped for the aerial rampup, but expected it would handle mostly like World. That we'd mostly get ground move / kinsect tweaks, with some small addition to the aeiral kit. Instead we got 2/3 but for the third, the inverse. Majority of the other weapons *did* get Rise kit stuff on top of that. The real problem here is that IG has never been very solidly *one* style. It's one of the most diversly used weapons in the roster. Now they're trying to converge it all into one and basically only the people who already played the style they're converging all the others onto are happy. Really, the biggest problem is that is absolutely no alternative. No aerial style IG, no aerial weapon and certainly no "only attack while committing to moving" type weapon. This is the biggest reason abandoning the concept just sucks, even from a purely critical perspective. I frankly don't care what their vision is at that point, they should really listen to the people using the thing on the regular. Just because that's how MH has been in the past, doesn't mean it's how it should be, or that ideas *should* be left behind just because some developer didn't see the value in it for one title. (The Console games influence the next portable ones, and the console one after, etc.)
