I've lived in Miami for 23 years and born and raised in New Jersey, I'd rather live in South Florida any day, hurricanes, ghetto areas and all. Once you leave Miami you find yourself yearning to return. There are few places in the U.S. where you can go out and get Cuban Café or Cuban Food, eat alfresco in the middle of the perfectly warm night and then take an easy stroll on the beach and breath clean, ocean air to clear you mind and relax. Haven't found anything at all like that in New Jersey. Miami Beach is simply gorgeous at night!!!
@davidsamuel6018
@davidsamuel6018 5 лет назад
Miami Beach is Miami Beach. However you must have lived in North Jersey because the Jersey Shore is a great area without the warm weather in most seasons & Cuban food.

True, Shoreisfine. Muss was chairman of the South Shore Redevelopment Agency, which imposed a building moratorium and set forth a master plan to transform virtually everything south of Sixth Street into South Pointe, an upscale tourist, commercial and residential enclave, accentuated throughout by Venetian-style canals. The controversial plan, along with its tax-increment financing scheme, was approved by Miami Beach voters in 1980, to both fanfare and public consternation. By 1982-83, the agency and its designated master developer had failed to reach its benchmarks, leaving the project's most vocal critic and persistently dissenting board member, Norman Braman, welcome opportunities to chip away at public support and upend the project's political underpinnings. The City's costly and ambitious urban renewal project was abandoned soon thereafter. And the rest . . . is history.

Watching this video brings back memories of my upbringing in Miami. South Beach used to be Miami's ghetto until gentrification pushed it over the bridge into the black, inner city areas. Modern Miami is NOTHING compared to how it used to be. The difference between then and now is that you'll find very few Miami natives nowadays as compared to back then.

@ Shoreisfine > Actually, most of the financial institutions on Miami Beach's Arthur Godfrey Road (aka 41st Street) had either been acquired, merged or moved by the mid-1990's. But here's a BONUS FACTOID for you . . . That's the same street on which Justin Bieber was busted this morning for drag racing, DUI and resisting arrest. :-)
