Having grown up in Florida in the 80s I can confirm that this movie is a 100% accurate representation of what it was like. Cocaine-dealing ninjas everywhere, Orlando was still in South Florida, crazy times.
I was waiting for that particular line! It's such a bizarre, Tommy Wisau style line read... like, if I was a controlling asshole brother, "a friend" would be the answer I was HOPING to hear ffs!
Yup, they were everywhere in the 80’s. I distinctly remember my mom telling me to “watch out for coke-ninjas” every time I said I was going to the arcade.
Between “Listen to what Oates is singing” and Emily almost spitting out her Mojito at “I didn’t know you had a father”, I must’ve looked like a maniac laughing on the train…totally worth it!
I found this movie thanks to rifftrax. I had to see it, MAN. But this movie has a following like all 'bad' movies, to the point they made an official documentary in 2012 with the actors and crew, and they just released another documentary this year, 2022, revisiting everyone. Seeing both, just let me know how passionate and hard they all worked, and they know it's not the best, but they truly love it.
It's one of Rifftrax's funniest Live show, for me. I can't watch this movie without hearing Mike, Kevin and Bill's wise cracks in my head. Best movie about Or-Pans out there.
Sometimes I see reactions on youtube and I think "Oh... I don't think you're ready for what's coming, honey" Matthew consistently finds movies for Emily to watch that make me think she's not ready for what's coming. And that's one of the major reasons why I keep coming back to your channel. Oh, and the cat, of course. Pippin is one of my favorite youtube reactors, because he reacts to everything with either cuddles or naps. And I feel that's the secret to life's happiness.
Got to see this in theaters thanks to Rifftrax (along with The Room), was a great time. The music would fit before if the Power Rangers were singing it.
Friends through eternity, loyalty, honesty. We'll stay together, through thick or thin. Friends forever, we'll be together. We're on top 'cause we play to win.
James Cann died today. Can we see Honeymoon in Vegas in tribute. It also has a young Bruno Mars for a split second. I wanna see if Emily can pick him out
I found out about this movie from the podcast "How Did This Get Made" and I strongly encourage people to listen to the episode about Miami Connection, easily one of their best episodes. Also check out the Rifftrax Live: Miami Connection which makes the movie even more fun.
Just a side note: been listening to 'How Did This Get Made?' for several years now - the 'Ninja 3: The Domination' episode might be the funniest single podcast I have ever listened to. So many questions, that episode could have been 8 hours long.
Well Em, am with Matthew, I love this movie it just makes me laugh and your reactions make me laugh too. And Matthew is right, the songs in this movie are amazing. The 2012 documentary they did is called 'Friends For Eternity' and they did another this year called 'Resurrecting the Dragon', they actually performing the songs live as a band at select screenings now. That cast is having fun.
I rescored the "Tears in rain" scene from _Blade Runner_ with the music from the letter scene. It turned out pretty well, even the original composer of _Miami Connection_ approved, and he was the one who sent me the track. Check it out :)
Gonna be a Toughguyyyy! Against the Ninjaaaa! Also...motorcycle... ninjas..and bad 80s acting...hooray! Edit: I watched this again ..for no damned reason..other than..At Awl. As a Florida resident I confirm that we have ninjas everywhere.
Nice one for sticking up for it at the end, I honestly have so much time for people who are passionate about making their own film, making a film on 35mm and getting to a cinema is amazing… and a song that is nice is so hard to do… again so much more time for stuff like that.
You know it's a bad movie when the highlight for Emm is when someone's getting choked! 😉😉 Also, I think this is the most animated Matthew has been about a movie on the channel, and I'm here for it!!! 😂😂
The guy in the olive drab vest with the close-cropped hair and beard (Jeff??) reminds me of an original 12" GI Joe doll from the late 1960s, with flocked brown hair and beard.
10:35 Right there. That was the look I envisioned on Emily right after I saw which movie was up to bat. Clutching your pillow and sanity is an appropriate response.
Leaving this comment before watching this at all. I saw the title. I saw your faces. I immediately smiled knowing I was going to watch you guys suffer through this one lol.
I have watched the rifftrax version of Miami Connection more times than I can remember. It never fails to brighten my day. This Just SUMM Reaction was awesome.
I love how "I did not put enough rum in this" is immediately followed by four bad-ass bikers packed into a lovely Volvo 700-series 1980s Yuppie package sedan. I also love the room full of ninjas vowing to avenge Jeff. 19:41, Ross found out who ate his Thanksgiving Sandwich. I think if they'd called it "We Really, Really Tried" they'd have found a distributor the first time around.
The tough guys song was actually effective, cuz I did actually forget they were tough guys at that point in the movie. In fact, I might not have been aware of it at all. But now I know.
The "Friends for eternity" song is soooo Barbie and the Rockers!.... I should have know Alamo Drafthouse had something to do with distribution (love my bros!)
hearing the history of the film makes my heart ache a bit ... someone puts their heart into something and when they finally achieve recognition it is for how bad it is ... 😭 ... This guy needs a Johnny Depp/Tim Burton to make an "Ed Wood" about him.
😅🤣😂🤣😂 Just sayin' - WOW - I thought I saw every "martial arts" movie of the 80s and 90s and seeing this I can see how I missed this - WOW Awesome reaction guys so good 😂😂 edit: MATTHEW!!!! 😮😮😮😮 a 7 - WOW ( yes wow again)
You do know that Alamo Draft House is a beer-drinking/bar food theatre -- It is an awesome atmosphere! Nothing like watching Monty Python - Holy Grail and being handed coconut shells and blow-up swords before the screening!
As a two-time graduate of the University of Central Florida, where much of this movie was filmed, I can confirm that this was more or less the atmosphere on campus. The free-flowing cocaine was a novelty, but I for one did not find the constant ninja biker attacks to be worth it. Many of my peers disagreed.
This movie is amazing...ly bad. But, also passionately bad, the producers really thought they were making an action epic. That's what makes me love it so much. The godawful music, the overly earnest (horribly acted) speeches, the barely coherent dialogue...*chef's kiss*. Can't wait 'til you guy's get to the companion piece of awfulness, Samurai Cop.
OMG YESSSSSS!!!!!!!! I LOVE that movie! So many people question if we are friends, just because I made them watch Velocipastor. HAHAHAHA GASP HAHAHAHAHA
I like the bad movie reactions. This, the Room, Birdemic, etc. You should have two different editions of your reactions. The mainstream reactions and bad movie reactions. I get the idea that Matthew is an MST3K fan and can ramble off a bunch of perfect bad movies he can serve up that were riffed on that show. The Creeping Terror, Prince of Space, Eegah, Manos the Hands of Fate, etc…. As well as some funny bad movies featured on Rifftrax
I really think Matt wanted to give it an 8 you just know it🤣I'm with him though I can watch this movie in it's entirety and just love it for the mess it is😂
Got it fixed now! 😉 I had two different emojis to cover up the tiddies, but one just didn't export properly in the final video. Thanks for the heads up! Cheers, Emily
