You guys are in the Miami International Bravo no problem huh? Lol always to get that clearance. They sure hate civilian helicopter pilots coming near that Bravo. For the cops its easy. For a Robinson r44 they are like "get lost. What? Did you actually ask us if you could fly anywhere near the MIA Bravo? Yes here is where you are cleared. The shore. Way South Kendall. Or basically almost the Everglades that far West. Nice video. Edit: 10:45 The Grove by the water. Ive done that in a 44 no problem. Just like a quarter a mile further West its NO GO edit: actually like 1/8th of a mile further West its no go. Instructor I went with took videos of all. Even a police chopper taking off East with us from KTMB he got on video. Cool flight.

I believe all law enforcement pilots carry firearms. I know of CHP helicopters landing and taking suspects into custody on some pursuits.

They’re police officers. It’s a requirement. Regardless of aviation assignment.

@@JoeF-sr4um Yes, if a suspect is in an area unreachable to ground units then the helicopter might land and piolets take down the suspect

As of right now its one flight crew so air support is available only when they are on shift. BUT we do also get help from surrounding agencies if air support is needed and our crew is off. -Ralph

I think the gentleman filled the role of the “civilian pilot” on city/public paperwork, but he did mention he had been on the force for over 29 years. I’ve read that police helicopter pilots don’t necessarily need to be sworn officers.
