Hi MIB, I heard about this from Dr. Mego on their Mego Cafe, to be honest I was not so excited about getting retro figures with the same glove mits ( in which I would not buy them as a kid because I thought they looked stupid ) Seems like Mego is going backwards instead of forging their way into the future, especially when you have companies like Neca and Mezco and TB league in which are churning out life like figures. There is such a wide world out there of entertainment when it comes to sports figures, Music Icons, Movies etc. Why is there still no Alice Cooper, Guns and roses, Jackie Robinson, Babe Ruth, Laurel and Hardy, Marvel figures, Star wars, Saturday night live etc etc. I think they just got the wrong people running Mego that are out of touch with their customer base, seems like every time there is a customer company gathering they ask everyone what they want and then do the opposite, this is why you see more and more customization coming out because Mego puts out stuff like Cheers and Married with children and then don`t even complete the line up, like they did with Wizard of Oz, They gotta get out of the basement and start running there business like a real toy company ( No offense to basements MIB). Mego really pissed me off with this Topps/Mego crap in which Topps stole $75 of my money and won`t give it back with just an empty promise that someday I will receive me Grim Reaper figures. Yes I love Mego but if they get stupid they will lose their fan-base especially with Figures Toy Company nipping at their heals and others. I wonder if they will be putting the new Mego bodies on these 50th Anniversary figures or will they just try`n get rid of all those old Mego bodies sittiing in the basement ( again no offense to basements ), My bet is Mego just wants to make some money off those old stupid rubber band bodies that they don`t know what to do with. Remember they are a business and they want to separate us from our hard earned money as much as they can, If they give us new bodies I may have a little respect left for them but if they come back with that over-sized Batman cowl and oven mits they can keep that crap, I ain`t buying it. Come on were in the future now with amazing technology you mean to tell me you still can`t even get the size of Supermans head on scale with his body??? Or fix those stupid rubber band bodies, at least Mcfarlane can give us much more articulation. Or maybe its just the fact that these toys are not perfect is the appeal to someone like myself, whenever I get a Mego I always get that Six million dollar man syndrome," We can rebuild him" or maybe its that Dr Frankenstien in me after I have customized a Mego figure, "Its alive! Its alive!" Mego is like some of my family members even though they do stupid things and let me down, you still love them. Because we are brainwashed as kids and didn`t always get that toy we wanted, So now we are adults with a little money and we demand that damn toy. So Megos appeal to me is that they are so completely imperfect like any disfunctional family. So when you get a Kiss figure that looks stupid with those face drawn Gene Simmons boots and costumes with no detail theres alot to improve upon, and gives me plenty of craft projects to work on in my retirement years, Don`t worry Mego if you don`t get it right, we still got Figures Toy Company and accessories to help you along. Great Video MIB you always seem to know my thoughts.
Fantastic comments and excellent points my friend !!! Mego is just like family !!! They get on your nerves sometimes but I still love them hahaha !!! Mego isn't perfect and like you said that's okay !!! I believe that's definitely the charm of Mego, because their figures are never perfect hahaha !!! Bodies are too short or too pale with two left hands or an outfit that is too small hahaha, and I absolutely love it because of it's charm, and we immediately call these error figures" rare " hahaha !!! You are absolutely right my friend, in our retirement years it will give us something to do and in my case it will make for great conversation over the coffee table hahaha !!! God bless you my friend !!! I absolutely enjoyed reading your fantastic comments !! It's always a pleasure to see you at the museum !!!
I wish they'd put the retro prices on them, like dollar tree does with Final Faction. I can only afford one or two. Has to be Spider-Man if available or Superman
It’s all good with me if they want to do some retro figures like this. It’s fine. The problem is Mego takes forever and ever and ever to get figures out. We don’t know what’s going on in their factories or their business, all we know is that they are hindered in someway. As long as the production of this retro line doesn’t interfere with getting the new stuff out. The other issue that, of course we as the consumer have no idea about, is the worry that any line that, in some collectors opinion, has high potential to fail might bankrupt the whole company. Nobody wants that. Mego is obviously very passionate about their brand but many of the fans worry that this might be a failure financially. Again, we don’t know..
You definitely make some excellent points about the business aspect of Mego !!! As fans and consumers we have no idea what Mego has to deal with regarding the business aspect, we only see the product end of things. I am just happy that Mego has returned and is making great toys for us again !!!
Bottom line is that the kid's from the 70s will appreciate the vintage mego heroes, I'll definitely be looking out for them, I always say mego should have put Action Jackson In their original window box and add the dog tag. Great video and God bless
God bless you my friend !!! I absolutely agree with your comments !!! As a kid of the 70'S I am super excited about these beautiful 50TH anniversary figures !!!
Some people will never be happy … Some people have wishlist things they want that we may get eventually … I’m just thankful for whatever we get … Why? Life is short and Megos are inexpensive compared to anything else in the market and they remind me of my childhood love These 50th anniversary are not ALL Mego is doing, just one element, so buy it or don’t is what I say … I am planning to buy them in the wild!!! I like both Mego and FTC The only original Mego I still own is a Kid Flash still on card (bottom of bubble has been cut so he can be removed) but I also have an FTC … and love them both! I want JSA, Legion of Superheroes, Etc … so I am eager for either to go deeper in the line up of DC (Would love to know more about the logistics and history of Mego, Dr Mego, FTC, New MEGO and others that have made Mego-style figures over the years … ) Sure I’d love Marvel but if that doesn’t happen I’m ok And I just LOVED seeing SURGE in the background of this video … and he reminds me that if there is a figure a person wants bad enough, just hook up with one of the MANY talented Customizer and commission your own. And can even make it a mint-in-box custom at that. My Customizer of choice is Russ Yocum and supplemented by Dr Mego products (Paul Clarke is the man) and I am on like my fifth partial or complete custom. And you can even do the custom yourself if you want Even a fully Custom Mego packaged mint-in-box is still less expensive than some action figures and especially statues!! And yes … some people are too picky. At $20 or less these are GREAT The TOPPS deal was good but the delays have been painful … yes … but if we can get past the supply chain issues then maybe we can get back to that to get more new figures that we might not be able to get otherwise Also, the Mego Waves just keep coming … slow at times but always worth it Very happy with where MEGO is, and where it is going Make Mine MIB & MEGO Stay Safe God Bless Keep Collecting Ps. Do you have a Wayne Foundation? That’s what I really want FTC, Mego or some Customizer to start making at a decent price (under $300)
Excellent points and comments my friend !!! I absolutely agree with you !!! I am just so happy that Mego is back on the toy shelves and toy aisles !!! Some people will never be satisfied and that's okay too, because like you stated, that's why we have so many amazing and talented customizers !!!! Surge sends his love to you and all the wonderful people that made him hahaha !!! As you can see , Surge has the best section in the museum !!! I watched the video for editing purposes and realized that Surge was stealing all of the TV time hahaha !!! He's a real ham hahaha !!! I sadly don't have a Wayne Foundation because like you said they are crazy expensive and even more expensive mint in box hahaha !!! Thanks so much for hanging out in the museum today and I hope all is well with you and your wonderful family !!! God bless you my brother !!
I had all four figures they are making for the 50th anniversary set, but my Robin had the solid box and my Batman didn't have the removable cowl. I wonder if they will have the paper sticker emblems.
I'm jealous of you my friend hahaha, I only had Batman and Superman. I hope that they don't have the stickers because they were an absolute headache hahaha
We need Marvel !!! I will not be getting these figures but I have no problem watching your videos on them MIB lol !!! Mego keeps missing the point with collectors !! Collectors want modern new figures ,not old toys from the past ! Wake up Mego Corp !!!
Things became a hassle when people learned too much, hahaha! People should buy what they want, at the end of the day we all should appreciate that there are companies making something. I think when companies began to move towards more realistic looking figures, that was the beginning for consumers to get picky on what these companies manufactured. In terms of the question if the companies are listening to consumers, I think they are but not directly. To define my answer, I mean that they are looking at what is in demand by what sells the most and what be produce that will still turn enough profits. At the end of the day, this is all a big business. For companies to continue to put out products they have to weigh out the cost vs benefits for themselves and marginalize to what benefits them the most. They don't pay attention to literal criticism or commentary as they do with numbers. I think you said this before "we communicate to these companies by how we purchase their products." I'm not trying to put anyone down or anything, that's just my opinion. Thanks for sharing MIB
Fantastic points my friend !!! As adults we have become too intelligent for our own good hahaha !!! We simply can't just look at a toy for what it truly is hahaha, just a toy !!! As a kid I simply didn't understand all of this business stuff, I didn't care were the toy was made at, I didn't care how long it took for the toy to be shipped from China or whatever country it was manufactured in. The toy always seemed to arrive right on schedule when I was a kid because I only could go to the toy store when my parents decided that they wanted to take me hahaha !! So the the toys always seemed to be right on time !!!! I just love the fact that we will be able to get these figures that we had as a kid
Im not big on mego setting deadlines and not meeting them and Im not that into the 50 anniversary figs not into to many superhero figs but mostly monsters and tv series type figures I mean I have a few superhero figs but not a huge amount
As an adult, I don’t want to settle for product that is subpar. As a kid, my Mego figures were of good quality so there was no complaints from me unless the body broke prematurely . Mego has every right to have a 50th anniversary event celebrating their early figures. If you don’t like that they are putting out a few early figures, buy from the other figures they will be putting out. They have a wave 15 coming out and likely a wave 16 by the time these boxed heroes comes come out. I honestly can’t understand a Mego fan that would object to these boxed heroes bring produced. With me, I’m sort of a purist. I prefer Mego over other subpar product made by other companies .
Words of wisdom my friend !!! Excellent points !! I didn't know or care about quality control when I was a kid, I just enjoyed playing with my Mego figures. I am excited about these 50TH anniversary figures and plan on getting extra sets !!
I can definitely understand that my brother !!! I wish we could get different characters too !! It's almost like Mego thinks that these 4 figures are the ones that everyone wants hahaha !!! Someone needs to tell them NO !!!!
Personally, I like the fact that they are doing some retro designed figures. It is really no different from what Hasbro is doing with their retro Star Wars figures, based on the original sculpts and design. It has nostalgia value, and I think some collectors want that.
Excellent points my friend !!! I always wanted Mego to make some vintage styled figures that we had as kids !!! The retro designs are going to be fantastic !!!
@@m.i.bmastertoymuseum1979 If I have $100 I'm going to buy groceries instead of a $20 figure. If they are $5 I'm buying $25 worth of figures and $75 on groceries. I'm not getting hooked on a $20 figure line and neither is my kid.
I'm ready to plonk down the dosh as the FTC stuff lacks quality control but I bought it because they were the only option I had. MEGO are cheaper in price and higher quality. Why would I keep going to McDonalds when I can go to Five Guys?
@@m.i.bmastertoymuseum1979 Yeah, I was whinging about the Topps dumpster fire a few videos back, but how long have FTC's Watchmen figures been delayed? I've got kitbashes of Rorschach, Ozymandias and Comedian figured out between their Classic TV Toys and Doc Mego's websites. Preoccupied at the moment with Judge Dredd back issues, though.
I enjoy the idea of bringing back some of the original figures for the MEGO 50th anniversary. It makes sense to me for MEGO to go back for a minute and revisit their humble beginnings to celebrate all the joy they brought to millions of people 50 years back. In regards to MEGO making all their fans happy? That's a tall order my friend. These days, no matter what a company does they are lucky if they can make 55% of their fans happy... and by default, leave the other 45% of the fans unhappy. Me, I'm a happy fan, I love having the figures from my childhood available again. All the Mad Monsters, Super Heroes, Star Trek figures, and Gi Joes, I am so happy to have the opportunity to collect them and old in my hands again. These simple things bring me joy. Regarding the quality of the figures, I seem to remember that when I was a kid back in the 1970s, I could throw my Wolfman and Dracula down the stairs, knock them off the walls, swim them in bath tub, and they never seemed to break. The modern MEGO figurers however, I believe they are a little more delicate than their ancient ancestors from yesteryear. Either way, like I said, I'm a happy fan. I really enjoying having my MEGOs back in the stores and back in my hands. As always MIB, thank you for your informative, though provoking, and entraining videos.
I absolutely agree with you my friend !!! I'm just happy that Mego is making these 50TH anniversary figures !! You are absolutely right my friend, Mego simply can't please everyone in this venture !!!
I for one am genuinely excited to get these 50th anniversary edition Mego WGSH figures. I have pre ordered all 8 of them. In addition to Superman Batman and Robin and Aquaman. I've also pre ordered Shazam and Green Arrow and the 2 figures that Mego never made, the Flash and the Green Lantern. And I'm hoping Mego will add the original Super Gals and Super Foes in the 50th anniversary collection. I'm hoping maybe they will add characters they've never made in this classic line such as Hawkman, Plastic Man, Firestorm, Lex Luthor Brainiac, and characters from the SuperFriends and the Legion of Doom. And if it were at all possible, to make 50th anniversary Mego figures of the Marvel Megos. And I mean all of the original Marvel Megos since no one else is making them.
I was 5 years old in 1977 when I was first introduced to the Super Hero and comic book genres and it all began with the New Adventures of Batman cartoon series by Filmation. I loved that show and Adam West and Burt Ward were the voices of Batman and Robin. When I got started with Mego, Batman had a molded cowl and Robin had a painted on mask (but I didn't like seeing their pupils through the masks) and the Mego figures were sold in blister cards at that point. I'm tempted to get 2 of each 50th anniversary Mego WGSH figure so I can put one of each on repro blister cards and clamshell cases that are on the World's Greatest Super Heroes site. Anyway, the New Adventures of Batman led me to the Batman 66 TV series, the comic books and the SuperFriends that fall and the rest is history.
Awesome comments my friend !!! I was 7 years old in 1977 so we are definitely kids of the 70'S hahaha !!! I absolutely loved my Batman and Robin figures that I had as a kid !!! Surprisingly for me my Robin figure was my favorite !!! I am really excited about the 50TH Anniversary Mego Superman , Batman, Robin and Shazam figures !!!
As for Scotty having a new sculpt, I would not have bought the new one if it still had the original sculpt from the 1970s. In no Way it resembled Jimmy Doohan. The new sculpt I believe is phenomenal.
I love the new Scotty head sculpt too, and it definitely looks like the actor. I wish Mego could at some point complete the original set, but that's just a guy that's still living in the 1970'S hahaha !!!
I just got all my Mego pre-orders recently. Green Arrow, GIJOE ninjas & 3 Ape Soldiers. I'm Canadian soo I had to get the American exclusives sent to my sister in the states and haven't seen them yet. I'm glad to hear they are bit shorter. Are the original 1970's Mego's shorter as well? ? ? Thanks
That's fantastic news my friend, congratulations !!! The Green Arrow figure is so awesome, I'm kicking myself for not ordering him !!! The Mego figures from the 1970'S were 8 inches tall, they are truly the standard that every other 8 inch figure is judged by.
I love the idea that Mego will be packaged as seen in 1972. I started receiving Mego figures in 1976 as a child. Started collecting again in 1997. The only problem i have is a Marvel issue -- I wanted Sub Mariner as a child and have been bugged all of my life about him not being made ... So, i would wish for Marvels...
Excellent comments my friend !!!! I'm super excited about the new retro Mego boxed figures !!! And yes !!! We absolutely 100 percent need the Submariner !!!!
I just spoke with Mark Huckabone and he says that these Mego 50th Anniversary heroes will not look identical to the vintage ones released in 1972……..and Robin’s removable mask is going to look totally different than the original Mego Robin mask looked like.
That's going to be a bummer if Mego doesn't make these figures as close to the vintage figures as possible !!! Once again, Mego is promoting these 50TH anniversary figures as duplicates of the exact vintage styled figures from the 1970'S !!!
I got interested in the retro action figures mainly for nostalgia value, so I'm happy to see this. Maybe Mego can bring them in at a lower price than FTC. I love what both companies have done with the retro stuff. FTC has been way ahead but maybe Mego will catch up. What would be awesome would be if they could somehow get the Marvel characters. Maybe Marvel would do a license if they kept it totally retro. I'd sure go for a boxed retro Fantastic Four or Spiderman from Mego.
We definitely agree on everything my friend !!! Both companies are absolutely fantastic and I would love to see Mego produce Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, Hulk and too many for me to name hahaha !!! Oh and definitely Iron Man hahaha !!!
Personally I'm excited to see these return. I work at a retail store whose chain is located mainly in the Midwest, not as nationwide as Walmart or Target, and I'm hoping to we'll get these. I plan on getting all 4. We did receive Mego's previous action figures so I'm being hopeful. These will take me back to a time where you can get a toy off the shelf without seeing empty spaces. Not to mention store exclusives, adult collectables etc. A simpler time. Here's hoping for the best. 👍
Awesome comments my friend !!!I envy you my friend, you will get to see these beautiful figures when they arrive at your store !!! I am excited about these 50TH Anniversary figures, I am also curious to see if they are on the smaller bodies .Nevertheless, I am really excited about the chance to reconnect with these figures that I once owned as a kid growing up in the 1970'S !!! Thanks so much for visiting the museum today !!!
I am very disappointed in the new Mego company so far. In my own personal opinion, I think Mego should have put a lot more emphasis on their 8-inch superheroes rather than the other choice characters that Mego chose to offer us. FTC has already given us so much more with their 8-inch action figure line. (Figures, Vehicles, and Playsets). The new Mego company needs to get their house in order.
Excellent points my friend !!! I am equally disappointed with some of Mego's choices in characters and figures !!! I am excited about the Monsters line of figures but I would have loved to see Mego produce more Super Heroes too !!! Mego could have simply created their own line of Super Heroes and that would have been awesome !!!
I’m very late joining this discussion. I am cautious optimistic about the reissue of the first 4 original Mego Superheroes. I want to see what they look like before I buy them. I want Robin’s removable mask to be identical to the original Mego Robin mask in 1972. If these figures do not look right, then I am going to pass on them and then I will really lose interest in the new Mego company. I am very disappointed in what Mego has offered us since coming back. This Mego reissue could be disaster out and a complete bust and failure if the figures are not made correctly. I don’t think that the new Mego company is ever going to hit a grand slam with their new superheroes line. I hope that I am wrong.
Absolutely fantastic comments my friend !!! You hit the bullseye on the Robin removable mask !!!! I absolutely understand your point of view !!! These retro figures really need to capture the exact essence of the 1970's figures !!! I want Superman to actually look like the Superman that I owned when I was a kid !!! It's extremely important that Mego knocks these retro Super Heroes out of the ballpark !!!! Like you, I too will be watching this very closely and my money will go elsewhere if I am not satisfied with these Retro figures !!!! Get this right Mego Corp !!!
I love it about time FTC did make beautiful looking figures but again the bodies were horrible. Some ppl open their toys and give to there kids to play with. Mego, I hope will improve with the new bodies and uniforms on the figures. The original vintage will always to me be the best, I hope these new ones give us the collectors and the newbees the feeling and excitement of the vintage mego. If this is going to be real retro don’t give me a different head or different uniforms I want vintage no oversized heads that mess they did with Star Trek was absolutely ridiculous!!! Retro vintage is wat I want in good bodies!!! Common mego don’t let me down!!! Mib you having your platform and your incredible museum wat is your opinion on this and wat do u think of the new mego figures??? We weren’t concerned about the vintage figure quality bc let’s be realistic the figures were well made ,uniforms were well made !! we also had nothing to compare them to . Now we do and if they are not better or equal to the original we as the fan, buyer or collector wat ever you wanna call it ,will expect good quality figures!!!
Fantastic comments my friend !!! I absolutely enjoyed reading your comments and thoughts on this topic !!! I am in the same boat with you my friend !!! I was disappointed with the Star Trek figures because I really wanted that vintage look that I grew up with in the 1970'S !!!! When Mego returned in 2018, I was super excited because I thought that we would get vintage styled Mego figures from the 70'S and early 80's !!! Poor craftsmanship and quality control issues have definitely been disappointing for me !!! Mego can restore a lot of faith with me if they get the 50TH anniversary retro figures right !!!! If Mego fails to get these figures exactly how I remember them from the 70'S, I will definitely consider spending my hard earned money elsewhere.
i'm primarily a GI JOE collector but appreciate Mego's commitment to their line . Hasbro could learn a thing or three from that , but chose to completely ignore their 12'' figure fanbase .
I absolutely agree with you my friend !!! Hasbro could definitely learn from Mego Corp !!!! As a big GIJOE fan , I would love to see Hasbro bring back the 12 inch GIJOE figures !!! Why can't this happen ? I would love to know what Hasbro's thinking process is concerning this !!
I hope mego can workout with disney to get marvel linces.i want a new mego iron man hawkeye figure with old school costume,,and scarlet witch based on george preze.i want a wonderman figure with original green costume with red w.yes this is not the 70s,theirs more players out theier,,neca, and more.
Excellent comments my friend !!! Great choice in characters !!! I would love to see Mego get the Marvel license and I would love to see Neca, Mezco , FTC or Mego produce more Golden Age super heroes !!!!
As kids we didn't care about quality of the figures since we just played with them and parents bought them but now that we're older and the fact the prices are much higher we demand better quality as they are now display pieces, whether in the package or not. Higher prices should mean better quality.
Excellent points my friend !!! The fact that we now as adults pay for our own action figures. I definitely want my figures to be of high quality and definitely the packaging to be MIB friendly. All these things definitely matters to me now that I am a collector
I can't wait for the mego 50th anniversary figures to come out it's gonna be so cool it'll be so cool but you're right figures toy company has done that but brings back happy memory for people
Thanks so much my friend !!!! I'm super excited about the 50TH Anniversary Mego figures too !!! Stay tuned for the videos on the 50TH Anniversary Mego figures !!!
Johnnie, how are you going to compare the original MEGO, the FTC and the new retro MEGO if you don’t take them out of the packaging? Are we gonna have some rare unboxings from MIB?
i absolutely looking forward to the anniversery figures ,its fun .i was there for the 70s ,still have them .as for something new ..mego is doing that also .so i dont get the beef of whats the issues ,i have all the classic retro FTC figures with display box -it works for me .however the new 50th will too and this time in name. actually the FTC figures have the bodies called type 2 that look more like the orginal figures then these new bandless bodies that mego will use ,however its no big deal ,i like them all .thanx MIB ,good topic ,i am a fan of both companies as well .the more the better since were to old to wait for certian lines from just one anyways
I love the awesome information and comments my friend !!! I love both companies too and definitely hope that these 50TH anniversary figures are as close to the original figures as possible !! Unfortunately some people will always have something to complain about regarding FTC or Mego. I truly believe that Mego is heading in the right direction and hope that they continue trending in that direction !!! My only concern, is that I hope that these 50TH anniversary figures are available in every store and state !!!
@@m.i.bmastertoymuseum1979 yes I am concerned with that also.i find target to be the best ,I just hope their not Walmart exclusive in anyways due to poor distribution in my area, Target is much better, your very fortunate mib cause you have Meier's & ollie's out in Ohio don't you ? Take care my friend, and keep up the good videos.. your the best ,no one can touch you at it .
@@kevintellegen5800 That's very true my friend !!! I do have Meijers and I believe we have Ollie's too but I would have to check that out. I am fearful that Mego Corp might drop the ball with distribution. I will definitely hope for the best.
Thanks for this video, MIB! I am curious to see these 50th Anniversary figures from Mego. The first figure I got as a kid was Aquaman. Some others I had were Captain Kirk, Superman, and Spider-Man. I can’t remember exactly because I grew up with three brothers and we played with each others’ toys! 😄 IF these figures are very close to the originals, and they’re not too expensive, I would consider getting Aquaman to start, and possibly others. I wasn’t crazy about the look of the new Star Trek figures - Bones looked way too pale, and Scottie was off. The original look would be best, even if only for nostalgia. Thanks again!
Thanks so much my friend !!! I absolutely appreciate your support !!! Aquaman is a favorite of mine too !!! I really hope that Mego makes these figures the exact same way that we remember them from our childhood !!! That would be fantastic !!!
Okay I have no issue with 50th anniversary figures, they are dropping the ball with not completing lines for the series of figures. Mego keeps blowing smoke up collectors asses with the whole “ slow boat from China” excuse with the Topps deal. So they have a few things to work on.
@@m.i.bmastertoymuseum1979 - There was an episode of Seinfeld where Jerry was dating a woman who had all vintage toys. And he had tondrug her to play with them. Perhaps you've seen it?
